- An interesting pocket size binder from WH Smiths, and my choice of paper size, makes for a very useful alternative to a notebook.
Let me know what you think.

Thank you again for another video. I think you hit the nail on the head with respect to using a ring binder as a notebook. At least the way I have been using them is as a notebook. The use of a deconstructed Clairefontaine notebook is a good idea as those notebooks tend to not be very flatable in their bound state until you really break them in. I'm going to have to try that out as I still have a few in my stock.
I'm also going to try using these binders as notebooks more regularly.
The fact that these notebooks can, once deconstructed, provide paper that perfectly fits pocket size binders, is often overlooked.
I agree that Field Notes/ Moleskine size (140mm x 90mm) is better than Pocket (120mm x 80mm). I was pleased when Filofax launched its Notebook range to see it included 140mm x 90mm models - even if confusingly called “Pocket”. They had the benefit of being Moleskine size but with removable pages. Unfortunately they haven’t sold well and have now been quietly discontinued including the diary/ planners and other inserts.
This is a tricky situation for Filofax, in my opinion. The 140x90 format is so ubiquitous that I think that the brand should have held on to developments in this size.
Thank you for your comment.
"Ic wende þæt wære min godspell!" (What St Cuthbert would actually have said 😂).
I'm struggling with the translation, but interested.
@@Flatability It's Old English. The letter þ is pronounced "th" and æ is a regular "a". So the whole pronunciation is something like "Ik wend that war mine godspell". Looks odd when written down but you'd likely have understood him if you heard him say it.
wend later evolved into "would", ware to "were" and min to "my".
That is beyond fascinating! Thank you.
