Ninja Turtles vs. Wyrm Review : Black Nerd Recap of "The Weird World of Wyrm" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 4 Episode 3 featuring the debut of Wyrm, a smart Casey Jones, a Hypercube and a plot similar to "Meet the Wigglenog" from Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go! What about Nova?
I never expected to see Wyrm again. He was obscure even by TMNT toy line standards. I especially didn't expect the character to basically be turned into Mr. Mxyzptlk from the Superman comics, right down to him being 5th dimensional.
***** The original version of Wyrm was a garbage man who got mutated into a worm creature (the origin was reused for the character Muckman). He didn't appear in the old cartoon, but he made a few appearances in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures comics from Archie Comics.
As for the plot, it didn't bother me because I seem to have missed that episode of SRMTHG!
+SuperDrifter4000 It.Was.Made.By.The.Same.PEOPLE! Shell, Professor Rockwell is a CLEAR tribute to Gibson from SRMTHFG.
***** One: Disagree as Rockwell has the same voice actor in Hal Gibson with Tom Kenny who uses the voice he made sp-CIF-ically for Gibson, and TWO his psychic power augmenting helmet is a clear reference to the helmets of the Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go. Its an easy connection.
Two: It is not unrelated, as I said it was made by the same people.
Three: So obscure references are bad now? That's HALF the humor in this show! Even Master Splinter is an obscure reference to a monster in Frank Miller's "Ronin", Ninja Turtles has and always WILL be about the obscure.
Four: Nothing else from the sh-THERE'S A PICTURE OF THE FRIGGIN' WIGGLENOG! That is a CLEAR reference.
Five: Character elements were ALSO replicated, as it had the goofy character become super smart and trick the all powerful 5th dimensional being. This was all done on purpose.
Six: Yes, kids won't recognize it, but not everything has to be made for them! Art is not the all inclusive thing people think it should be, a lot of time it excludes and while there ARE negative examples of this, this was not one of them. And even then they'll probably enjoy it for how silly it is.
Final note, while yes it was cliche one must remember it was INTENDED to be cliche, and even so not all cliches are bad. Shell, they even did some new stuff two with Wyrm's destruction symphony and giving Casey a portion of his reality bending powers.
I am really sick of people bashing the new seasons, I have SEEN when this metaseries can be insufferably dumb, and this was not even close to the Vacation in Europe season.
1. SUPER NOPE to that voice being Tom Kenny's Doc Ock voice, which is more his Ice King or Simon Petrikov, or normal voice.
2. I meant- THE DESIGN!

Considering its the same voice characterization, same helmet design, same actor who worked on the freaking show?!

4. I was talking desing wise again, yours is correct, but if you read Ronin you'd notice a monster similar to Splinter.

5.Bishop was introduced in the series finale, and Timothy...okay I miss Tim too, but still Bishop will probs be seen next season.

Name ONE time that movie has been talked about in the mainstream in the last ten years?
Also the Chimera, reference to a monster movie about a giant bird monster, Mom-Thing reference to the Thing, Dream-Beavers reference to Nightmare on Elmstreet AND the Palladium book TMNT RPG which spun-off into its own series.
7. Yes they adapt, but they also adhere to a LOT of cliches, and have even in the comics since the bleeding 1980s.

At least the weird world of Wyrm was doing its sillyness for the sake of sillyness, that season was just lazy edutainment!
11.No, it was an inside joke, proven by how the Wigglenog was seen on the Fugitoid's FLIPPING SCREENS!
12. Lord Dregg is clearly a side villain, don't get so beat up about him. He wasn't that important in 87 either.

+SuperDrifter4000 It was the same writer and producer. It's not really ripping off so much as it's more like recycling. Hell, the Wigglenog is one of the Creators of Chaos they mentioned; he's right in the middle next to Wyrm and that spider germ thing (that I'm curious to see if he'll eventually show up now).
It was soooo awesome that you mentioned Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go cause that was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. It made me really happy remembering this show and just brought me back to the good old days!
I forgot all about Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go! I use to love that series. Hated how the series had an open ending. I wonder if this TMNT episode counts as a crossover. It would be interesting to see SRMTHG cameos throughout the rest of the season. Like seeing Chiro or Jinmay in the background on some alien planet. Also Greg Cipes, the voice for Michelangelo, voiced Chiro. Ashley Johnson the voice for Renet, voiced Jinmay who was Chiro's robot girlfriend.

When Wyrm blew up the planets after he got free was a reference form V for Vendetta when V blew up Old Bailey. Same music as well. So two Alan Moore references in the same episode.
Casey's last wish wasn't very smart. He should've wished for the Triceratons to change their minds about destroying Earth in the first place. Which would produce the similar result of them not coming across the hypercube, plus avoiding the trouble with Lord Dregg as well. Three birds with one stone.
***** You need to see more time travel movies. Like the Back to the Future trilogy.

(And actually reused Gibson's voice!) Slash's voice actor, Corey Feldman, voices Sparx! Shredder's voice actor, Kevin Michel Richardson, voices Antauri! And just like you mentioned, Mikey's voice actor, Greg Cipes, voices Chiro, and used similar voices! That's five already!

An omnipotent being found in space by a crew of a starship that has the ability to change his physical form, bend reality to give what someone wishes for, introduce the starship crew to a new form of life (or in this case the undead), and blow up planets. The moment I saw Wyrm, I was automatically reminded of Q from Star Trek.
+999MonsterJam David Tennant the voice of the Fugitoid is actually a fan of Star Trek and has co-stared in a movie with Patrick Stewart who is also a fan of Doctor Who which David Tennant stared in. The Fugitoid himself is actually reminding me a lot of the Doctor considering the first thing he did was save some Earthlings to be his companions on board of his ship which can move threw time and space. So um... yeah... I'm kinda wandering who actually voiced Wyrm because he did sound very familiar. If they actually got John DeLancie to voice him I will shit bricks.
RialVestro I wouldn't place my money on DeLancie just yet considering that I didn't hear his pseudo-British voice in our dear Wyrm. On the bright side, we at least have Worf in the form of one of the Triceratons.

+999MonsterJam yeah I thought about Q as well. Last season was all about the horror actors and themes. This season it's the turn of science fiction. We've had a Dr Who, Worf, Captain Janeway is in Half Shell Heroes. So while I think that Wyrm was more inspired by Aladdin's Genie and Super Robot Monkey etc. there is a possibility that Q could've been a possible reference. I'd like it to be.
WYRM acts like Disney Genie in the beginning, then acts like that episode from super robot monkey team hyper force go.
I don't know if you noticed Andre but the training room in this episode is also from TMNT 2003 series when they were in the future and Cody made a holographic training room for them. I'm not sure if it appeared before that show too somewhere though. Also, I come back and watch your videos every time I watch this show. Love it! It never gets old 👌

Other fun facts: Mark Hamill voiced the main villain, and some of our favorite voice actors like Tara Strong, Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Hynden Walch, and Ashley Johnson (among other well-known actors) voiced characters on the show.
Funny how it isn't mentioned that the symphony scene where all the planets blow up was clearly referencing V for Vendetta where V is blowing up the Old Bailey to the exact same music :D

I would wish for Teen Titans (original) to come back on TV! God that is my favorite show. Also more episodes!
I wish day put some of the heroes and villains were never been show on the original Teen titans as the ones they've been shown Teen titans Go.
Also to add on to what was said about Super Robot Monkey Team HyperForce Go, at least 2 of the voice actors on Ninja Turtles did voice work on that show too.
Another thing to mention is that Greg Cipes was the voice of Chiro on SRMTHFG, and is now Michelangelo in Nick's TMNT.
This Genie story was done on Ducktales and Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers. 3rd wish was to never find the Genie and everything goes back to normal. Fairy Oddparents have done this too. Wyrm was really creepy, I don't remember him from 80s series
Extreme Ghostbusters had a genie episode that didn't work that way. They destroyed the thing with a paradox. "I wish you would not grant me this wish".
We are getting a lot of agents of chaos lately. Out of Discord, Bill Cipher, and Wyrm, Bill Cipher feels more threatening. Second would be Discord because Hasbro probably did not let the animators go all out with him, and Wyrm as easily duped with the oldest tricked in the book.
This callback to Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go is made even better by the fact they do share a voice actor. The guy who voices Mikey also voiced Chiro, the main character.
Wyrm was in the Archie comics, but he looked really freaking different. I always loved Wyrm's toy as a kid, but never got him. The card backs for the figures always classed him as a hero, but in the commercial he was marketed as a villain, as he also was in the comics and now is in the new cartoon. Those card backs always made it tough to know who the hell was good or bad.
I finally got use to the new intro. When this season started I was ready to rock out to the theme I know and love, but then I get taken back when Leo starts talking. Love it intro btw, just now I can enjoy it without getting tricked.
it's also worth mentioning that Chiro in Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go was voiced by Greg Cipes like Mikey

I don't care if the plot *was* a carbon copy of that Robot Monkeys episode. Turning Wyrm into Mr. Mxyzptlk was the perfect thing to do with him! Better that something so hideous and misshapen come from the 5th dimension rather than living as a mutant. He'd live a very short and very painful life. Plus, his bio in the original toyline was exactly the same as Muk Man. Which is boooooring!
BTW, did anyone else get the sense that Wyrm's voice actor Dwight Schultz was going for a Levi Stubs impression?
Andre it actually goes further, the Wigglenog episode takes place in the In Space season of Super Robot Monkey Team.

I wasn't shocked at all the planets blowing up. u know they're gonna unwish everything. Gosh this episode was SOOOOOOO boring
If u watched "Meet the Wigglenog" u wouldn't say that. Because this tmnt episode IS meet the wigglenog verbatim so I knew EVERYTHING that was going to happen. The whole time I was begging, BEGGING for it to give me SOME kind of surprise, do SOMETHING different! PLEASE!!! I'm in love with Monkey Team, I really am and I love most of the references that they make to it, but this episode took it WAY too far. On top of that, meet the Wigglenog was one of the weaker episodes of Monkey Team, so why rip off that one? Bottom line, Wyrm is my 3rd least favorite episode of the whole show for being boring as tar and lazy as hell

Surprised you didn't mention that Dwight Schultz, the voice of Wyrm, was also Murdock in the A-Team, witch is a connection to the A-Team cartoon parody, plus he was also the voice of Mr. Mxyzptlk in the Superman Returns game, and that character is basically an extra dimensional trickster just like Wyrm. XD
I liked how the 3rd master of chaos was the Nickelodeon splat symbol.

I KNEW that episode was familiar, and I KNEW I recognized the Wigglenog but I couldn't figure out why. I loved Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go, and still like rewatching episodes today. I wonder if this means the Turtles are in the same universe as the Hyper Team, and the monkeys or Chiro might make a cameo at some point. That would be really cool.
I love how the team behind The 2012 show can turn some obscure and forgotten character from the original toy line into something pretty memorable!
Plus, Wyrm is voiced by Dwight Schultz, who also played Mung Daal on Chowder. So basically, this episode is a crossover between the Three Great Powers of television animation, Nickelodeon, Disney and Cartoon Network. Gravity Falls/Steven Universe crossover is imminent.

it started off as a horror-ish doctor who episode, then went into Q from star trek (and by extension, Discord)/Mr. Mxyzptic, and then the obvious connection to be made let just so happens to star the ninja turtles

This episode has the highest implied body count of any cartoon I've ever seen. All those planets and stars Wyrm wiped out means he killed billions upon billions of sentient beings across the galaxy. Not to mention the running theme of horrific maiming and violence against sentient beings. They pretty much implied some of those astro zombies have their heads crushed and they also decapitated Wyrm. That means that they were serious enough that they were intent on killing him. KILLING HIM. Wow. Brave TMNT. Bravo.

If it were me I would wish for the pieces of the black hole generator, to be able to defeat anybody no matter the odds, and that Wyrm had no power outside the cube.

One of my favourite actors, Dwight Schultz, playing a parody of my favourite film character, Genie. This episode was a blast!
Casey's initial attachment to the cube seems like the Lord of the Rings-ish to me.
I couldn't relate the Wyrm with the Genie from Aladdin or that other character from Beetlejuice since I never saw their movie/show.
Wyrm reminded me of Uncle Grandpa... a more evil version, by the way.
I wish that all the good show that got cancelled too soon would get another season or two like SuperRobotMonkeyTeamHyperForceGo!, 2003-2006Teen Titans, Young Justice and many others

I love Wyrm, He's my favourite character. Too bad i don't see any way of him retrying. :( He's the Discord of the turtle world. Barely anyone else has spoken about him! He's so unknown and practically ignored within the community!

This episode makes me wish they would reboot Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go. It was a good show with a good story and characters, so seeing it done with a higher production budget and quality would be nice. Also if it is rebooted they better get Mark Hamill back as the Skeleton King, you don't replace Mark Hamill.

And 2: Three of the main cast members of the aforementioned show, were in fact Gregg Cipes, Kevin Michael Richardson, and Corey Feldman. Don't know if you don't already know that, but I thought you should know if you don't, and if you did, why didn't you mention it in the video!?!? And as a bonus, the main villain Hyerforce, was in fact voiced, by, ........................ Mark Hamill, and I think you know who that is.
