Thanks for all the support. It means more than you know :)
You see, the reason you Aim-7C tracked and killed the F-11 is really easy, yet overlooked all the time.
The F-11 Pilot simply used a booster, either for RP or SL.
LOL
The game just throws this kind of crap at you in every corner of the game that involves either a "gamble" or any significant Boosters. If you do the 5x assist wager, you suddenly constantly get an Air RB map without npc planes. Or you just hit a smoking opponent for 20 dmg and get the Kill instead of the guy that pumped 200dmg and 2x crits into the target. The game is full of this bullshit and there is nothing to laugh about it. Its just too much. So much that I even believe the Missle track thing is true. I wish they wouldn´t overdo it this hard. I like to do a little gamble from time to time. Would spend some GE for it as well, but you just can´t trust em in that case. The F you get is the most constant thing in the entire game and its the only bigger game IP i know atm that still trolls its users with a W6 dice symbol instead of the reality of chance. That basically says it all. It wouldnt be War Thunder if they wouldnt find a way to get the F a bit deeper tho. Last patch they just added timers on the 0 / 50 chests with guaranteed Item and took away the progress the players already had with a oneliner in the patchnotes :D

@@coomlord5327 what I ment is getting the radar locked in the exact low G situation you need for the Sparrows on this plane to get the kill... Kind of does not always work out they way you want/need/execute it. It's alot of luck involved to use it properly when you need it. The main factor here is the low G value of the rocket. Getting a safe lock from a distance is not the big issue, but you rely too much on the opponent making a mistake.
Ah, the Demon, one of several planes that give you the pleasure of taking off from esports ready carriers!
When more than one plane tries to take off and only one gets the boost and the rest just splash

@@sird4vy501 Well, the Brits already have the FG Mk.1, so there is a naval Phantom in the game.
Btw, did they add carriers to sim battles?

I absolutely love the Sparrows, after I finally figured out how to work the Radar a little better these were exactly the kind of McGuffin the F3H-2 needed to make it worth playing again for me.
A good little gimmick would be to have AIM-7As, which I think were beam-riding sparrows, that would be fun!
Should still be 9.0/9.3.
Any tips on how to use radar? My sparrows just exploding 2 seconds after launch 🤣
Tell me the tricks
@@Xiphactinusan even bigger gimmick, the AIM-4 Falcon
The F5 is so manuverable primarily because of its straight wing design and lightness
Because it is straight wing the center of lift is further forward than if it had swept or delta wings, so the Elevator is further back from the center of lift and becomes a more effective fulcrum (its easier to lift a heavy thing with a long stick on a fulcrum).
And also because the COL is so far forward compared to its contemporaries, it has much better energy retention than them as well.
All of this of course heavily sacrifices top speed, and the lightness/smallness of the airframe limits the selection and performance of powerplant/s.
What’s the name of the round things in front of the wings? Like the ones you see on a hornet, or f-16. Would they be canards?
@@potatopower707 not sure what you mean
@@Generic_Name_1-1 just in front of the wings, to the left of the slats. The f-18F made them bigger. Not sure what I can call them.
@@potatopower707 iirc on the hornets/super hornets, those are the leading edge root exetensions
@@potatopower707 as the other guy said, it can be in referred to like that in laymans terms, but they are called Wing Strakes.
The issue here is that the AIM-7 shouldn't be used with the ACM (air combat manoeuvring) mode. it's a beyond visual, medium range air to air missile and it doesn't really start to track at all until the motor has completely burnt out, you ideally want to be using it with standard radar search and track modes at high altitude for cheeky shots where the enemy thinks they're out of range. If you go into a fight trying to use it as an all aspect sidewinder alternative it will fail almost every time, you should aim to be at least 3-4km from the target by the time the motor burns out in a head on engagement, or around 2-3km in a tail chase. Of course, results may vary with altitude. Happy flying!
The problem there is range and guaranteeing your opponent doesn’t change course, so the ideal is to find a middle ground but yeah 4km is too short 99% of the time
@⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻ ⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻ it actually very much matters. With ACM mode, you are very range limited when trying to grab a lock, as seen in this video. With the normal radar mode you can lock the target as long as you see a brick on your scope.
How do you do all that??
Sim vs this thing in a Mig15/17 is brutal. Lacking the radar / rwr makes you comically easy to murder. It really shines in sim
Oooh I've gotta try that
@@Lithiertums yeah, 8-9.3 for Russia is nasty right now seeing as you want some altitude in your Mig. Let’s just say you don’t want that altitude any more.
I never use the ACM mode on the radar TBH, using the normal radar mode and just pressing the lockon button works better for me. Is there abd advantage to using the ACM mode I don't know about?
faster refresh rate=stronger lock and the acm mode has a more vertical scanning for dogfights
@@sabre7724 alrighty then, and TBH you never hit with these sparrows at more than like 4 km anyways, so that would work fine
Where's the ACM mode, I want it.
@@cavalcadeofbobs3559 You can switch to that mode by turning your radar search off and then pressing your lock on button or by changing your radar mode.
It is a lot better at top tier as missiles are a lot more reliable and the engagement window is a lot smaller so it’s quicker locking helps a lot more
Watching you try to get a lock at BVR ranges with ACM mode was painful.
just got my F3H, it's a little slow on the acceleration when stock
It’s still slow spaded haha. I think without afterburner it can only keep up like .8 Mach
so far it hasn't been a good time - all uptiers and I think it's one of the slowest 9.7s
3:37. The reasons you were able to get inside that Mig-21PFM's turn were...
1 - F3H has good nose authority just like the Mig-21's
2 - You were slower to begin with (plays a part in 3rd reason)
3 - You were coming over the top using "God's G" to come around faster
4:17 The MiG-21PFMs higher wing loading and its delta wings both contribute to it being worse in the initial turn fight than the F3H-2. It dumps its speed faster and loses its maneuverability quicker because of the characteristics of a delta wing and because higher wing loading means you have to pull higher angles of attack to reach the same turn rates which in turn presents more wing areas to the airflow causing more drag and creates a bigger area behind the wing with negative pressure which creates more induced drag.
7:58 war thunder seems to have a bug where the ACM modes will only lock if you keep turning the mode on and off. But they should just lock the first thing the radar sees.
11:54 you dont need to have a pulse doppler radar to get a look-down shoot-down shot, its just much harder. It does make it easier if you have the target moving relatively fast across the ground though because the radar sees the target its holding track on and the clutter behind it has less of a chance for any particular return to confuse the radar off of its target.
12:02 thats only on much later missiles mostly post-vietnam iirc.
The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn't.
I have flown the F3H-2 for a while now. It's one of my go to top tier aircraft. Its often underestimated and can easily deal with mig21's and su7 that misjudge that it's deadliness.
The controllable leading edge flaps can be the decider. The aim 9b is perfect for the style of fighting the Demon can bring. I love an under dog though.
you can use the radar to spot enemies, i used it to track enemy planes beyond my pilots vision, i doesn't show the players name, but the plane and it's distance, so it's pretty useful!
I grinded this plane because I needed a good CAS to play with my XM-1. To be honest, it is one of the best planes to play when you want to have fun and it is balanced. I just love it's guns
For a balanced plane it’s repair cost is a bit high
@@batteryboi8201 I agree, but it is at least manageable, there are some other aircrafts that are unplayable because of repair cost.
I'm looking at you B-29
@@MeMrMellow I’m constantly a broke boy either from buying a tier 6 or from doing side ventures in other nations, so I rarely have above 600k, which doesn’t give much breathing room for a fighter jet with a repair cost like that, he177 (maybe b29 I should go spade it too) is fine because I hardly die, but for a fighter, almost every round is a death whether I get kills or not, so it ends up being more expensive, meanwhile I still have 5 free repairs on my (spaded) he177, with none left on my f9f-8 that is still stock.
@@batteryboi8201 that's the reality of War Thunder. Changing nations is hard
Use the A4E. Besides it's a squadron plane so no specific grind, and it is better than the demon in GRB while allowing the xm1 to be played at its BR
From what I understand of sparrows still killing things after lock is lost is because they still store the last guidance values that they got and use those to maneuver even when the lock is lost. The missile doesn’t just go limp when you have no lock. I’ve been killed a few times by sparrows that were not being guided by radar (because I chaffed), but because I didn’t move from my original course I got slapped.
That sounds more like how modern anti radiation missiles work, not how Fox 1s work.
Sparrows should go stupid after lock is lost; that's the point of them (and how they work) and that's one of the reasons why Sparrows are still in the US inventory even though they are outperformed by the AMRAAM.
Even if it kept the last guidance values like you say, a quick course change by the enemy would render the Sparrow useless anyways.
@@_ace_defective_ The sparrow doesn’t maneuver straight into the ground after it loses lock, it keeps going because of its momentum and the values that it already had on the target. The warhead is still armed and if a target (like in the video) refuses to maneuver after lock is lost it will get slapped.
@@biovorebarrage6860 It will go straight, yes. So in that case there is a non zero chance of a hit; I'm not aware of how the Sparrow's warhead works so I'm not sure if it depends on the radar or not, but I'm assuming it doesn't.
However, the issue with Sparrows in War Thunder is not just with that. I can launch a Sparrow at someone, they can dump chaff and then evade, and my missile still will continue to track them. I can fire a missile at an enemy flying right, have it switch lock with a friendly flying left, and the missile will continue to guide itself towards the enemy.
Sparrows should not be able to guide themselves in like a Fox 3 like that. In-game, it only requires you to have a lock on *something* for the missile to continue tracking the original target, but then it guides itself in like a Fox 3 but without the RWR spike.
@@_ace_defective_ The sparrow (in game at least) uses just a standard proxy fuse system, and it is a shame that sparrows go into FOX-3 mode sometimes. I once fired a sparrow at someone who was right in front of me (around 6km) and it hit a friendly a7d that wasn’t even on my screen through some gaijin bullshittry.
Yep... radar still needs a solid bit of tweaks to push them toward fully functional. Bit like in ground forces they added commanders' view but you can't scout from said view in light tanks...
Errr, don’t know about you but I can definitely use the scout button in binos / commander view.
@@fighter_pilot_1698 As of this patch bino view is not commanders view. Check your bindings and you'll see what I mean.

@@0Ploxx untwist your panties :))
I have good news
Use BVR mode, not ACM, BVR allows locks at 9+km, the ACM is "air combat manouvering", short range only. Might be good for an AIM-7E/E-2 but for an AIM-7C or D it's just too little
I’m not going to claim any explicit aeronautics knowledge, but the PFM has tiny wings compared to the demon, and yes, it is also a delta. The PFM also has its wings situated slightly farther back than the demon.
With the new patch, the AIM7s for some reason keep their lock if they are close enough even when the opponent pop chaff to me it seems like losing lock doesn't change the missile trajectory and therefore if the plane doesn't change course the sparrow will still connect and set off the proximity but I might be wrong.
Funnily enough, that’s been a thing since the update they added chaff. Sparrow for some reason would still track despite losing the lock. Tested it in a custom battle with a friend. Would fire at about 5km, shut off the radar and break away while the friend took evasive action. Missile still connected half of the time, which is scary! Strangely it’s only the sparrow, no other radar missile in the game seems to do it. Definitely a bug.
You know a surprisingly fun combo is an f4c with only aim-7 and a gun pod. Because not many things get rwr you end up getting like 2 aim- 7 kills a game. What’s interesting is that the first anti radiation missile was a modified aim-7 to lock ground radar. This was known as the agm 45 and could be equipped on the a4e a7d and a few more. A modern version is know as the agm 95 falcon. So the answer is yes a aim 7 could lock onto the enemy radar but it is highly unlikely.
It’s kind of a slap in the face to me, a YS player, to see my plane at the same BR as early radar missiles
Frankly no jet without flares from 9.0 up is any good, thanks to the huge population of A5C players who go to space and then dive down on things as old as *sabres* with 35 G 4km launch Mach 3 missiles
The longest I go with the aim7cs is 7 km, beyond that they're very iffy. At about 4ish or less in a head on, they work well
Yeah, if you test it they actually have less range than an AIM-9E in a chasing engagement at sea level. They really are suited for headons or else the range is compromised.
Yeah I had to get used to that, as I'll usually launch at 10-13 km with the 7E's, but with these you are launching a slower missile from a much slower plane, so you have to get in close for them to do anything.
Could you do a video on the CL13? they used to dominate and in todays meta, they struggle to compete
Haha, expected this video after encountering you while trying the sea vixen with squad mates! Demon’s been one of my favourites since it was added, even more so since it got sparrows, love its handling, and the guns are solid.

(UPDATE: After writing that I finally started playing the F3H2, got Sparrows with a positive KDR in record time and not on a premium account, WTF what an insanely GREAT JET IT IS compared to everything Swedish between A21RB and J35D....................)
Commenting for Algorithm. Lovely vid spit!
It’s called Transonic
Not subsonic not supersonic
I must just be having bad luck because this jet is shit
