Grease on wet hair great in terms of moisture retention. It's such a great sealant so make sure you're not sealing dry hair ,you end up using way less which makes it easier to wash out and I never put anything on my scalp.
I noticed “natural hair” products left my hair dry and breaking. I switched back to my og salon products and haven’t issues with moisture or length retention since then. Now after shampoo and deep conditioner I only use one product on my hair and that's a moisturizer and nothing touches my scalp. Went from having wash days every 3 days to every 6 because my scalp isn't nearly as irritated.

Grease works for my low porosity hair. Because my hair gets dry like the next day after wash day, I use grease to hold moisture in. Like Will always says do what works for you.
I noticed less hair grease on my pillow when I wore 2 hair bonets instead of just one. Try that. Also hair grease is best removed by a sulfate shampoo. I would use a clarifying shampoo to wash the grease out my hair. 1) Clarifying shampoo 2) water or water-based moisturizer 3) seal in moisture wirh grease. And thats pretty much the process! 😊
I do the same except i also deep condition weekly! Do you use a clarifying shampoo each week when you wash? Or do you alternate with moisturizing or sulfate-free shampoo?
@@11crystaln When I was a loose natural, yes I would always deep condition after clarifying, since a clarifying shampoo is very drying. I'm locc'd now, so my hair regimen has changed. I think it's good to alternate between a clarifying and moisturizing shampoo, because if you wash your hair frequently, then you don't always need to clarify. Since I've been locc'd, I alternate between the two, but I don't wash my hair once a week. However I will wash my hair as often as needed. The more active I am, the more I will sweat, which results in more washing! 😊 I also don't use grease on my locs because it seems to not work well. But grease is excellent for loose hair (relaxed or loose natural)!
I started using all the natural haircare products in my daughter's hair and couldn't understand why her hair always felt so rough and dry. My mom suggested I use grease (as she used in my hair growing up) and reluctantly I did. Lemme tell you, my baby's hair thanked me for it because it's back to being so soft and shiny. Everyone just has to know what works for their own hair.
My mom used cover my hair in grease and then straighten it with a flat iron. This woman was cooking my hair!! Lmao. Idk how, but I still had head full of long hair. But I sure don’t do it now 😂
The trick with grease to prevent that oil slick down ur neck and pillow, is to use a little. LESS IS MORE! And it washes out a LOT easier. I shampoo twice and I’m good 😆😆😆
@@bu2fulsouli used to style em in twists, and wear wash n gos. Id wash and condition my hair, comb my hair with a wide tooth during the process , then mix a bit of blue magic, gel and water together and apply it in sections from the tip to root.
I literally just said this, when you wash your hair good and grease your scalp with that "softeee grease" your hair gone grow long af! My mom done this all the time as a kid and i still do this to this day😭😭✨
I agree everything doesn't work for everyone. It is trial and error. However, grease and shea butter is great for my coarse hair. I wet my hair and leave my hair in twist for a month and do not manipulate my hair every week.
I don't use grease but I live in a literal desert. If I gave up on the oils and butters I would be bald. Na'ar a hair on my head. The natural girlies can do what's best for them 😊 Edit: A memory just jumped forth with that pillow story. I used grease in middle school for one(1) week and ruined a besties pillow. I was so traumatized I blocked the whole experience out 😅 It really is to each their own.
A tip for washing the grease outside. Before you add any water or shampoo, work a cheap slippery conditioner through your hair(I use garnier pure clean conditioner) rinse the conditioner out with warm/hot water and then shampoo.
lol nah my hair was long as a kid (up until middle school when I started doing it) my mom would mainly use water, grease, that Africa's Best Kids Organics Shea Butter Detangling Moisturizing Hair Lotion (I just called it yellow moisturizer) and gel. She would damn near brush and style it everyday and it was long and healthy. Blue magic and I can’t remember the other grease she used definitely helped my hair I feel.
For my wash and go style, I use the Blue Magic after I put in my leave-in, but before I put in my eco-styler. I love definition and shine it leaves my curls with
Not Will calling out hairtubers including himself and also saying that youtube only loves ridiculous and shocking stuff 😅😅😅 this guy right here, he always cracks me up
I was one of those girlies with hair down their back using grease lol. I am relaxed now and I STILL use it cuz it helps me retain length and reduce my breakage. I’ve transitioned to the castor oil one because it just smells better lol. But the blue and green blue magic STAYED in my house baby girl
Omg! I also got some grease a few weeks ago, my single strand knots have been out of control and I didn’t know what else to try, so I decided to buy a jar for the first time in over 10 years. And wow! Im still experimenting with how much is too much but you really don’t need a lot. I gasped at how much you put on 😭 I’m traumatized too by the grease stains on pillows and clothes so I’m super careful; only the tiniest bit on my ends and I have tried it with the doux hair mousse which is what I usually use for twists and they actually mixed nicely, I also keep it far away from my scalp! Washing it out wasn’t too bad. I think it could be the key for single strand knots and friction as I’m all about trying to retain length. I can’t believe we’re all going back to the grease 😭😭
I never stopped using hair “Grease.” My hair has always thrived since I was a little girl. hair grease has always been a staple in our household for generations. ❤
I think the reason being people think that grease can “grow” your hair because it’s a good moisturizer. In order to retain your length you need to retain moisture in your hair. Because if your hair is dry, it’s more prone to breakage, and grease keeps your hair moisturized for weeks on end. The less dry your hair is, the less it’ll break off. So that’s the science behind grease “growing” hair
I use grease mainly on my roots and scalp to avoid dandruff. Idk if that would work for everyone but it does for me. I only use it after washing. Im not terribly active so wash day is every other week or so. I avoid getting too much grease on the length of my hair bcs i dont want it to give me acne. Oh and it just leads to it getting everywhere. A ring of grease on the face and neck, all over your ears, as well as stained shirts/collars
I miss what my mom use to do to my hair. It was long and thick. She was definitely doing something right. Which always included affro sheen hair grease.
For me when I went back to using grease my hair retained moisture better. I noticed a big difference in my hair when I don’t use it. My hair looks like a tumbleweed without it . Grease is life for me!!! And it doesn’t take much either. Use it on wet hair only and when I shampoo I use a clarifying shampoo followed by a moisturizing shampoo.
I swear by blue magic and pine tar by b&b….. when I had a frontal that took my edges out a few years ago, I only used those two products and my hair grew back so fast I love old school products ❤
Pro tip: You dont need to use much grease... literally a dime sized amount per section. It will be hard to wash out if you are using quarter sized or larger amounts. You dont need to reapply once you've "locked in the moisture" with grease. Just spritz with water. Yes, you need a clarifying shampoo (preferably with sulfates) every wash day. Tbf, though, you probably won't have to wash more than every 2 weeks cause the moisture is so good. In your case, keep it away from your scalp so you won't have issues... You can definitely layer other stylers for twistout over it including mousse and creams. Can add a leavein conditioner under it for even crazier moisture. But yeah, wouldn't use it for a washngo.
Not you coming for the inversion method 😹 I completely forgot the natural hair community had me upside down thinking I would gain inches. But I do use blue magic just to keep my hair sealed and not dry and brittle but its not the reason my hair is long.
When Will pulled his hair back in the bun with the twists and said it was giving a weird shape while looking right at us... I was like "girl where??" It was giving dandy in all the best ways. Glad to get the instant gratification of him realizing it looked good too.
I actually started to use blue magic because of your video and it helps. When wear twist after a few days i go in and grease my hair and it helps me keep the twist longer.
Grease! Grease! When my family reminded me that blue magic and water was all my mom used on my waist length hair I went right back to grease. It helped to retain my length and keep my hair moisturised enough to create the environment for growth. No breakage. Moisturised.
I used to put shea butter in my hair as my sealant with the loc method... I imagine using grease would do the same thing to retain moisture soooo maybe I'll start using the bottle collecting dust in my bathroom 😅
I lost love for the community because my healthy hair goal was to recover from my blood disorder breaking my hair off like ma’am no curling crème fixing that how you sick girls grow hair 😭
In me and my sister hair, my mom used to use: 1) Pantene shampoo and conditioner 2) the orange cholesterol deep conditioner 3) infusium leave in 4)a little olive oil with some blue magic and braid it up. The most simple routine that helped retain our length as kids.
I don’t use grease because it attracts dirt and odors. It also makes me feel like my scalp can’t breathe. If they ever made a “thin” grease, I’d be open to trying it.
Its about retention. Clarifying shampoo, a good conditioner, grease and plats or twist. If yoj do a twist out...wash your hair two days after and plat it back up. Three plus days of leaving it out is risky behavior depending on porosity.
I think I saw that video too! lol. I read the comments and someone (or maybe it was the OP) said they have scalp psoriasis and the grease been helping, and I decided to pick up a jar of the OG blue blue magic, cause baby.. the way winter treats my scalp, I'm willing to try almost anything. Plus, I don't remember grease being at bad thing when I was younger, so it's worth a try. So far, so good.
I remember when I started this journey 10+ years ago and was doing LOC, Carol's Daughter grease was my "O," and it uses corn oil and beeswax instead of mineral oil and petrolatum. Lemme go back to the old landmark cause the way menopause has changed my porosity levels in random spots on my head from "low priority" to "no porosity" is ridiculous.
I bought blue magic last weekend and I like it so far. I put mini twists in my hair (with some weave added for length), and my hair felt very soft after using the grease. I also found that the blue magic was perfect for doing twists with weave. Usually I use beeswax but I didn't need it after using the blue magic. So, I definitely will keep using it. Plus beeswax is hard to get out sometimes lol.
When my hair was long which was not too long ago, after washing my hair, I would moisten it with water, and add a leave in conditioner or hair curl define cream, I used Bella curls, it just kept my hair hydrated. And I could comb my hair and get those uniform waves. And I would do that and then add just a little bit of wet line external gel and a tad be of hair grease like African Best and when I undid my twist in the morning my hair would be so soft wavy and feel good, it would keep it hold and would last all week as far as moisture and softness, but like cause I sleep I’d probably twist it into a hair style in the middle of the week with just a little more water and Bella curls
💖 I just bought some Blue Magic hair grease. I swear by hair grease. Ultra Sheen is the absolute best!! My hair has been shoulder length all of my life. ✨
I stopped using blue magic as well. In the beginning of my hair journey it was all fine, but later on I started to notice that my shake wouldn’t absorb products properly even after I washed it. I tried using clay washes, but after applying grease again, the hair would feel really bad and would not absorbs other products well. It was puffy and very stiff. After I stopped using grease, my hair went back to normal. Now I only use Lotta body foam and a leave In Cream
But it’s true…as a kid, my mom and grandma would wash/conditioned my hair, then greased my scalp and only my scalp while my hair was still wet, plaid it up, and it stayed braided for a week, then take the plaids down…. My hair was down my back…no lie….
I use the Pattern product line (hair feels so fresh and so clean, clean and moisturized after) and sometimes use Carol's Daughter's hair grease on my scalp instead of oils.
Me I have and have had my hair down my back. It broke off a lot when I started perming in hs but after his I big chopped and went back to the basics and you can’t tell me ish now
I have super thick hair, so products get trapped so i prefer to use very little. I use a light moisturizer only and sulfur 8 and aloe vera and peppermint oil only and just a bit a week and my hair grows and does fine.
I was just thinking about how since I've been using all these cherries and berries for years, my hair has not grown past shoulder length. But before it used to grow to mid-back.😒
I love using grease as my o in my lco. Like you I live in the dessert and my hair dry out very fast with oils. But I mix my grease with my gel and I get definition ,shine and moisture retention.
You just described the way it grows hair... Grease-->prevents breakage and dryness-->hair is retained rather than broken off so that's why it's said it helps growing hair. Just like how peppermint oil or onion oil causes a reaction in scalp that increases blood circulation which causes growth. These methods or products only facilitate mechanism that create the results
i'm still trying to figure out what works for my scalp because i sure do be itching and scratching with every single style. the rest of my hair is moisturized and nice but my scalp just be suffering. i've never had it checked out before, so i may actually have scalp issues. this really motivating me to try to get my scalp right for this winter lol
I brought grease again because I wanted to do only protective style for a year, I forgot how itchy my scalp would get with grease, I gave it to my little sister and made some homemade hair butter 😅😂.
I am in my late 50's . I have been using grease most of my life. I stopped using all these new products. I went back to water spray, a light grease and a hair lotion. The new products were breaking my hair off and leaving it too dry, tangled and hard. A lot of the newer products have alcohol and some chemicals in them so that their product doesn't go bad. You should try spraying your hair with water first then use some hair lotion and a little grease. My hair grew back using grease because it stopped my hair ends from breaking off and having fairy knots. My hair is growing back to waist length now.
Look, my mama LOOOOOVED water, a hard brush, a comb and the BLUE ultra sheen grease. And my hair was full, long, and manageable. She also did my hair regularly. If she used anything else I have no clue I don’t use ultra sheen nor blue magic in my everyday/week routine but I will pull out some liquid hair oil and grease my scalp on occasion. Especially in the winter here in the suburbs surrounding Chicago. But I will pull out my shea butter, avocado oil, aloe juice mix and cover the ends of my hair towards the end of my week leading up to wash day to try and keep the moisture locked in my hair

Also hair grease is best removed by a sulfate shampoo. I would use a clarifying shampoo to wash the grease out my hair.
1) Clarifying shampoo
2) water or water-based moisturizer
3) seal in moisture wirh grease.
I also don't use grease on my locs because it seems to not work well. But grease is excellent for loose hair (relaxed or loose natural)!
Yup lol👍🏽
I started using all the natural haircare products in my daughter's hair and couldn't understand why her hair always felt so rough and dry. My mom suggested I use grease (as she used in my hair growing up) and reluctantly I did. Lemme tell you, my baby's hair thanked me for it because it's back to being so soft and shiny. Everyone just has to know what works for their own hair.
My mom used cover my hair in grease and then straighten it with a flat iron. This woman was cooking my hair!! Lmao. Idk how, but I still had head full of long hair. But I sure don’t do it now 😂
😂😂😂😂
What you saw cooking was not your hair, really. Just the grease. Our hair was just fine. I realise that now.
If you had long full hair then she obviously wasn't cooking it.
The trick with grease to prevent that oil slick down ur neck and pillow, is to use a little. LESS IS MORE! And it washes out a LOT easier. I shampoo twice and I’m good 😆😆😆
Wetline xtreme, blue magic indian hemp mixed with water...u wont regret
How do you style your hair using this combo? Wash n Go? Twists?
@@bu2fulsouli used to style em in twists, and wear wash n gos. Id wash and condition my hair, comb my hair with a wide tooth during the process , then mix a bit of blue magic, gel and water together and apply it in sections from the tip to root.
@@calder6623 ty ❤️
I literally just said this, when you wash your hair good and grease your scalp with that "softeee grease" your hair gone grow long af! My mom done this all the time as a kid and i still do this to this day😭😭✨
Blue Magic is simply that girl I stocked up on her yesterday
I just like to put grease on my ends after I moisturize my hair so they won’t be brittle and break off, which helps me with length retention.
The natural girlies can do what's best for them 😊
Edit: A memory just jumped forth with that pillow story. I used grease in middle school for one(1) week and ruined a besties pillow. I was so traumatized I blocked the whole experience out 😅 It really is to each their own.
Grease works for me, the key is to not use an excessive amount, it works well expecially on my scalp
I love blue magic been using it for years I don't over do it but the growth and health has improved greatly..
I love definition and shine it leaves my curls with
Does it flake?
@@vincytvholic Not at all, maybe because of the Blue Magic
Are you applying the grease to the entire strand? Ends to roots?
@@hitmanswife1125 Yes, but not directly. I rub some between my palms, apply it to various areas of my hair, and then work it in from root to ends
I don’t even use leave in just grease concoction 😂I don’t even use conditioner
I should go get some Blue Magic!!! 25 inches down my back, here I come. 😌
Apply the “grease” to soaking wet hair after applying a leave in. Old school way I did my daughter’s hair.
*whispers* it’s capitalism 😅
*edit the keracare anti dandruff grease is much easier to shampoo out and it has salicylic acid in it.
Will your hair came out good using the grease and it looks very moisturized. NICE❤❤❤
We could start by sending every “no poo” social media person to Mars.
Hahaha! Good one.
Erm I dunno about that dawg. I can't afford mars right now?
😂😂😂
I miss what my mom use to do to my hair. It was long and thick. She was definitely doing something right. Which always included affro sheen hair grease.
For me when I went back to using grease my hair retained moisture better. I noticed a big difference in my hair when I don’t use it. My hair looks like a tumbleweed without it . Grease is life for me!!!
And it doesn’t take much either. Use it on wet hair only and when I shampoo I use a clarifying shampoo followed by a moisturizing shampoo.
I def had hair down my back. All my momma used was grease in my hair
When our mothers did our hair as a child, our hair was never damaged because of grease, it grew.
I swear by blue magic and pine tar by b&b….. when I had a frontal that took my edges out a few years ago, I only used those two products and my hair grew back so fast I love old school products ❤
I have only been using grease since i chopped my hair. Plus im dead broke barely getting by with the bills. So glad we got grease, my hair is soft
Yes that is what my mother used on both my sister and I. Waist length for my sister and butt length for me. Then the relaxers started…
I swear!!!
When Will pulled his hair back in the bun with the twists and said it was giving a weird shape while looking right at us...
I was like "girl where??" It was giving dandy in all the best ways.
Glad to get the instant gratification of him realizing it looked good too.
I love how will always breaks down information and is so clear about natural hair and trends
I recently got back into it because my scalp EATS up everything else so fast and it gets dry quick
I love Blue Magic! I use it every wash but only on my scalp (not on strands/ not a styler). My scalp doesn't itch nearly as much between wash days.
because why was i about to go buy some hair products
The editing takes me out every single time. 🤣🙌🏽
In me and my sister hair, my mom used to use:
1) Pantene shampoo and conditioner
2) the orange cholesterol deep conditioner
3) infusium leave in
4)a little olive oil with some blue magic and braid it up.
The most simple routine that helped retain our length as kids.
Just bought 2 big bottles of Infusium.
Already went back 😂😂. Just washed it today and rubbed some leave in lotion and grease in it. Dried it and that's it.
I don’t use grease because it attracts dirt and odors. It also makes me feel like my scalp can’t breathe. If they ever made a “thin” grease, I’d be open to trying it.
There is African thin grease, I saw it.
Mimosa Hair Honey is def my grease of choice. I love it on my taper after a fresh cut. A little goes a LONG way!
Girl, using clay washes to wash out hair grease?! That's ya problem. User error!
I love that he has a meme for everything
But it’s true…as a kid, my mom and grandma would wash/conditioned my hair, then greased my scalp and only my scalp while my hair was still wet, plaid it up, and it stayed braided for a week, then take the plaids down…. My hair was down my back…no lie….
I use the Pattern product line (hair feels so fresh and so clean, clean and moisturized after) and sometimes use Carol's Daughter's hair grease on my scalp instead of oils.
Yes Aphogee pro vitamin leave in conditioner in a spray bottle and blue magic is all you need. I love the new super grow formula it smells so good.
Me I have and have had my hair down my back. It broke off a lot when I started perming in hs but after his I big chopped and went back to the basics and you can’t tell me ish now
I have super thick hair, so products get trapped so i prefer to use very little. I use a light moisturizer only and sulfur 8 and aloe vera and peppermint oil only and just a bit a week and my hair grows and does fine.
grease is a must for the perimeter and ends of the hair beau.
I was just thinking about how since I've been using all these cherries and berries for years, my hair has not grown past shoulder length. But before it used to grow to mid-back.😒
Me and Blue Magic are locked in 🤞🏾Just purchased a new leave in from them and it seems my hair loves it!
I love using grease as my o in my lco. Like you I live in the dessert and my hair dry out very fast with oils. But I mix my grease with my gel and I get definition ,shine and moisture retention.
Grease doesn’t grow hair…what is does it help with retention. Locking moisture in so your hair won’t be dry and brittle. Which causes breakage.
Yes it does
TALK ABOUT IT POOKIE! Out here doing the Lord's work fr.
I use a mix of old school and new school products and techniques!
I've always had natural hair and the 1st 21yrs of my life was grease & water. Pink Lotion, Moisture Max, & Sta-Sof-Fro too. The Xennials know ❤
Lord, I miss Sta-Sof-Fro!
i'm still trying to figure out what works for my scalp because i sure do be itching and scratching with every single style. the rest of my hair is moisturized and nice but my scalp just be suffering. i've never had it checked out before, so i may actually have scalp issues. this really motivating me to try to get my scalp right for this winter lol
Try mixing Vicks Vabor Rib in your hair grease, for itchy scalp, it works for me
I started back using grease and my hair seems to be flourishing. I use it once maybe twice a week.
Will will never not take an opportunity to remind you he got them hands! 😂😂😂
Look, my mama LOOOOOVED water, a hard brush, a comb and the BLUE ultra sheen grease. And my hair was full, long, and manageable. She also did my hair regularly. If she used anything else I have no clue
I don’t use ultra sheen nor blue magic in my everyday/week routine but I will pull out some liquid hair oil and grease my scalp on occasion. Especially in the winter here in the suburbs surrounding Chicago. But I will pull out my shea butter, avocado oil, aloe juice mix and cover the ends of my hair towards the end of my week leading up to wash day to try and keep the moisture locked in my hair
