- Paul Siefert (1586-1666) was just a year older than his more famous colleague Samuel Scheidt. Both organists hailed from Gdansk (then called Danzig), on the Baltic coast of Poland (then Prussia). When they were 20 and 21, respectively, the town paid for both organists to study with J.P. Sweelinck in Amsterdam, where they spent 3 years. After a stint as court organist in Warsaw, Siefert returned to his home town to assume the post of principal organist.
Here are 6 of his variations on the Christmas Carol "A Boy is Born in Bethlehem," recorded on the Brombaugh organ in Fairchild Chapel at Oberlin College.
Absolutely beautiful music and performance ❤️
Brilliant! Thank you for sharing your talent on the organ!
