    Something like this might be super useful on small sailing yachts...

      Thanks for your feedback. There are things I didn't go into details in building this kayak, such as the dimensions of the floor. For some people, especially the seasoned DIY type, they will figure that out. But I know many builders may have questions. Please feel free to contact me and I will be happy to help and hoping to see others have a successful build. My email is PDXBoatmaker@gmail.com I think the biggest challenge is not really into build this kayak, but to find a longer sheet of coroplast to build a useable boat. I will create a video on my updated method to join two 4'x8' coroplast soon. Happy New Year!

      @@DIYUSA thank you ver much. In the past i asked you about integrating a tiller in the boat, so it goes more straight. I hope you are still interested in that idea (you mentioned before that you were): if you post something about that, i will be very interested. By the way, very small sail boats, to keep course and not capsize, have an attachment thatfunctions like a tiller. Thank you again

      @@daniellorca4452 Not sure if you have seen this small sail boat I built using dagger boards on the side. It works (at least in the light wind condition). I can sail upwind. ua-cam.com/users/shortsfrHCclf0QzQ?si=D4uIzHFlljhced1r and this one has a centerboard. I haven't fully tested that yet (in a stronger wind condition). That's on my todo list.. ua-cam.com/video/4Zm_IkuTsGU/v-deo.htmlsi=nlozAxFXseTl70gj

    Hi, great job on your videos & your skills.
    Would like to make this kayak but locally I can only find 5'x10' 4mm with flutes going 10' direction.
    I don't think this sheet is strong enough to use and flutes are going wrong direction.
    What are your thoughts or suggestion? Thanks

      Thanks for the question. You are lucky that you can get a 5'x10' coroplast. Even though it is 4mm, it will work. I have built boats using 4 mm coroplast. It is easier to build a boat with 4 mm thick than the 6 mm one I have. My friend built two kayaks is using 4 mm thick 4' x 8' coroplast from Homedepot. makezine.com/projects/origami-kayak/ You have to pay more attention when building the boat, especially don't step on it and compress the coroplast. If you can get a 4'x8' 6 mm or even 10 mm coroplast to make the floor and it will be even better. You can also double up the 4 mm thick coroplast for the floor. please watch this playlist also. ua-cam.com/play/PL2ShZzOUu01v-D-Ap1XcX8TgnFlzwf1NP.html&si=b79abq8uxXlGH3CW
      I have updated the design of this Gen 23+ kayak. If you are under 5'8" - 9" and weigh less than 170 lbs, my newer design will be even better (faster, looks better, better tracking). I will upload the undated design in a few weeks. I have tested that newer design but I have to find time to make the video to share. Cheers!

    Do you have a design for the floor piece? I am building one of these (love it so far!) but I can't find the floor design, I might just not be looking hard enough.

    • @DIYUSA
      @DIYUSA  2 місяці тому +1

      Thanks for checking with me. I have not provided a plan for the floor. I will not be able to give the exact dimensions because there are slightly variations in the final size of the boat. I will create a simple video to illustrate how to do that, please give me a few days (may be on or before this weekend) because I am packing up for a road trip. Cheers!

      @@ObscureNacho Thanks. Hope you can build a kayak better than mine from the videos. The 1st simple implementation of the floor works for my body weight of 140 lbs, However, when the weight increases to > 200 lbs, the side walls start to collapse. Hence I doubled up the back panel of the seat and that can solve the problem.
