    I wish I could personally give this 1000 likes. You answered a question I’ve had for a long time: how do you keep the winch lines taught? This is genius! I’d only just asked this exact question on a previous video then UA-cam suggested this video to me! Your video was clear and concise. I am indebted to you. I don’t know any other sailors so this question remained unanswered for a long time. Thank you!!!

      Thank you for a brilliant video. I'm plucking up courage to build my first RC yacht and doing a lot of Internet research.
      Reading up about sail servos I saw several criticisms of winch servos saying that the sheets can jump off the drum if the sail suddenly goes slack. Your solution fixes this brilliantly. I don't know if it is generally done or unique to you.
      I love all your videos. They are really helpful to a newby like me, but also inspiring and beautifully presented.

    A word of caution. If you haven't set up a winch before DON'T screw down the drum to the servo. This way if you get mixed up the drum is ripped off the winch without burning out the winch motor. A great video with good clear explanations .

    I love your videos! I've got a problem with the winch line set up. Where and how do you hook the sails up to the sheet?? Please help. It's driving me crazy. I got it all set up like you do but you never show how to hook up your sails to the sheets. I would be so happy if you could make avid in that. Thank you.

    • @sailtails2775
      @sailtails2775  18 днів тому

      There will be many variations of this depending on boat's arrangement and sail plan. Generally, in the case of sails fitted with booms, the sheet will attach to the boom. My schooners are set-up so the sheet has a two part advantage over the boom.
      This video shows how that is set-up. ua-cam.com/video/f93MWmfWSeg/v-deo.html

    Hi Gary.
    Could you just clear one point please?
    The HS 875 winch drum has two channels for the winch line.
    How do we rig the lines actually to the drum?
    Cheers.
    Pete.

    • @sailtails2775
      @sailtails2775  3 роки тому

      Hi Peter,
      One end of the line fits to one of the channels, the other end of the line to the other channel.
      The line passes thru a hole in the channel and a stopper knot keeps it there, as seen at (2:00) in the video.
      This is a secure arrangement which cannot 'slip'.
      Cheers, Gary

    Hi Garry I got the winch line for the main sail set up. I am now setting up the headsail winch . I am using the taranis tx. I'm trying to set up with the left slider but can only get 2 turns on the winch. I did check the calibration of the sticks. Are 2 turns enough for the headsails? Can i get more movement out of the slider? see more below.
    Think i got it sorted. Edited the channel with right slider. Scroll down to SIDE and select - - -. This give movement both ways giving 4 turns. now i just have to adjust end points.

    • @sailtails2775
      @sailtails2775  3 роки тому

      Hi Robert, good to hear you got the control sorted out.
      Setting end points for the gaff cutter 'Flyer' - The headsails require about 15 inches of travel which will provide sufficient slack for the lazy sheets. The main sail can use about 16 inches of travel before the boom lies against the shrouds.

    Where do you get your plastic white pulleys (large and Small) ?

    • @sailtails2775
      @sailtails2775  3 роки тому +1

      The small pulleys came from a "Clothesline Separator" purchased at Home Depot. A larger pulley can also be found as a "Clothesline Pulley" at Home Depot. (Home Depot is a home supply store chain in the USA).
      The drum atop the winch servos is provided with the Hitec HS-785HB sail winch servo
