Light and Mello would frequently get really overly emotional and not think straight and when they did, their plans often had massive flaws in them and that’s not even mentioning that Light had godlike powers and so did Mello for a time. Near was pretty smart but he didn’t really get much done by himself and when he did, he would be really slow and careful. In the end, L doesn’t really have any of these problems and while his plans were also often flawed, it was to a much lesser extent than the others.

Ryuk probably noticed their deep complicated connection between them as he was the one stayed with light for long, so he wrote like that, Light would see L's reflection for a few seconds before light himself was dead and gone. In the end, its just my theory, cause if ryuk was writing the end of light anyway, why he said it would be interesting, he could just simply right it and off with it :3

I feel like there’s so much for to L’s background that we don’t know. If you rewatch his death scene in the midst of all the church bells ringing. There’s like a small second of a child crying. I wonder if it’s L in his youth there are scenes of stained glass and steel bars. I get the feeling L had such a troubled childhood.
