      LOL! Since discovering fountain pens, Christmas has regained some of that childhood excitement.

    Really like my Sailor 1911L with 21k M nib. Thanks for video.

      I can see why you like that pen. The 1911 Standard has always been my favorite model and since I have small hands I never really thought about trying anything larger. But when I came across a good deal on this Pro Gear at the pen show, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try a 21k nib. I'm glad I did! Maybe someday I can try a 1911 Large. 😀

      @@gadgetstop321The only difference, I believe, is the 1911 has rounded ends and the Pro-Gear has flat ends. So it is an esthetic choice. Hanks for responding.

    I have noted over the years that coated nibs can have a slightly different texture to non coated. In my opinion that is the difference on the broads.

    • @gadgetstop321
      @gadgetstop321  14 днів тому

      I bet that's it! This is the only coated sailor nib I've ever written with.

    I enjoyed this, I don't have any Sailors. Medium to Broad is all I write with. A fine is just not for me. I am very glad to see you having your sister shares the fun. And that she is in the video.
    And ya'll don't talk over each other, that is amazing, so respectful.

      Thank you! As I watched this video myself, I noticed that I'm doing too much of the talking. I'm not used to having someone to converse with when I'm filming, so in the next video I'll make an effort to let Gina do more of the talking. I thought of some things that I'd like to get her perspective on, so I'm making a list of questions.

    1. This video confirms my belief that the broader the nib, the more enjoyable. For me, with Sailor, those less than are less fun.
    2. If you haven't yet, you should try a King of Pen at the next show you go to. Much smoother and bouncier than the smaller pens. Got mine below half price on Amazon.
    3. Sorry to say this, but I don't believe that dip tests are very accurate.

    • @gadgetstop321
      @gadgetstop321  13 днів тому +1

      1. It's interesting that you mention that because when I do my ink tests I feel the same way - the broader nibs are more fun. However, when I actually use my pens, I always go back to the fine nibs. I've tried to use the wider ones but I just don't enjoy it. Weird.
      2. I really wish you wouldn't have mentioned this (LOL!) Which model did you get?
      3. When I first started doing these pen and ink tests I had the same concern, but as I've gained long term experience with these pen and ink combinations, I've found that they are pretty accurate. I always consult my notes when I'm going to use a pen or ink that I don't use very frequently and every time I go against what my notes inform me, I regret it. However, dip testing is insufficient for determining if the feed of a pen will be able to provide a uniform flow of ink. For example my Moonman M800 and a couple of my Kaweco nibs will write beautifully for a few sentences, then start writing drier for a while then maybe it will start writing wetter again or I'll just get frustrated and prime the feed. Dip testing can't predict that.

    Nice review; enjoyed the comparisons. I really like my Sailor nibs (some of which I consider my favorites in my collection) but they seem (to me) be more inconsistent than the other Japanese brands. Thanks!!

    • @gadgetstop321
      @gadgetstop321  13 днів тому

      It's interesting that you mention that, Michael. I think it was Mike and Audrey Mattison in a recent live-stream that were discussing the differences and inconsistencies within certain nib grinds of Sailor nibs that they've used. At the moment my new Pro Gear medium-fine is my favorite nib to write with, but part of that is due to the type of writing I'm doing - journaling and taking notes. I had to do a bit of work on that nib though. Out of the box the nib had some canyoning and was a bit scratchy.

    Long time, no see, Cathy. I've been working in a hospital in Germany for the last year, & now, returned. I see you've recruited your Sister, Gina; by her commentary, I like her - particularly her choice in scribes: 'Loch Ness' & 'Wicked Witch Of The West', both of which (sic) I also own, &, by happenstance, I was writing with my Pro-Colour 500 'Stardust' just prior to watching this presentation. Trusting that you & yours are in fine health ?
    Best,
    Andrew.

      It's nice to hear from you Andrew! It sounds like you've been quite busy. We are all doing well here. My husband and I recently adopted a dog with megaesophagus - his name is Marshall. I'm relieved that managing Marshall's health issues has turned out to be no trouble at all. However, since he spent the first year and 3 months of his life in an animal shelter, he is now a full grown, 57 lb (25.9 kg) dog who lacks the manners of a pup who was raised in a home with a family...but he loves to learn. My husband has also been traveling more than usual for his job and Marshall and I have been traveling with him. All these things have prevented me from posting as frequently the past few months, but as this becomes the new normal, I have learned to incorporate making videos back into the schedule. I'm also enjoying the opportunity to get more hands-on time with my sister's pen collection. As I've noticed with many other pens, the Pro Color 500 Stardust is even more eye-catching in person. 😀

      Dear Cathy, delighted to read that you're all in fine fettle, & that you now have a new addition to your family. Megaoesopghagitis is of course, manageable; inflammation of any part of the Gastro-intestinal tract can be debilitating, but as is often the case, our canine & feline counterparts are far more robust than we'd like to consider; the treatment for this condition is virtually the same as that for a human, & for which I am sure you appreciate; loss of any peristaltic reflex should be monitored carefully; ultimately, it's not life threatening if you remain vigilant.
      In regard to the Pro-Colour 500, I agree, it is one of the most aesthetically pleasing writing instruments in my collection, & a joy to write with. As a lady of religious inclination, be careful not to covet thy Sister's fountain pen colloection ! 😉 Stay safe & well on the road,
      Best,
      Andrew.
