    110,000 miles later, my turbo motor is still running great.

    Last March (about 7 months ago) I bought a 2019 CX-5 (mid-sized CUV) with this engine in it. It is insanely quick. The turbo is always right there across all RPMs. I'm on a Mazda Owner's Forum and reported mileage for this car with this engine is 25MPG-30MPG+. Again, this is a CUV, not a sedan.
    Lots of things the video did not touch upon. One of them is that this engine outputs 23 more HP when using 93 octane instead of 87 (250HP vs 237 @ 5,000 RPM). Some have reported higher mileage with 93 octane, which reduces (but does not eliminate) the extra cost for it.
    Such nice cars.

    Now put it in the Mazda 3 Hatch
    Edit: I meant with a manual transmission, obviously.

    what about the direct injection issue : carbon build up on valves and intakemanifold? is there any injector to clean that area?

    • @ljpr360
      @ljpr360 5 років тому +8

      Having all the experience they do with DI Mazda designed the SKYACTIV engines to deal with Carbon Build Up. They found the valves deposits only form on cold valves and designed them to stay over the threshold during normal operation. So save your Money. Mazda fixed it before it was an issue. You can find the press release where they talk about it here: www.motoiq.com/magazine_articles/id/2105/pageid/3529/131-compression-and-40-mpg-on-87-octane-fuel-introducing-mazdas-skyactiv-technology.aspx
      Go to page 6. Quote: "To eliminate the problem of intake valve deposits that plague current direct gasoline injection engines, the engineers at Mazda determined that deposits are formed when intake valve temperatures fall below 400 degrees C. Measures were taken so that the intake valve would operate above this point to reduce deposit formation. One of the biggest issues with direct injection engines is a build up of deposits on the intake valve. Mazda determined that this was largely due to the intake valve being too cool. A lot of analysis went into designing the heat paths away from the valves to keep them at the proper temperature to avoid deposit formation."

      Mazda recommends fuel system, throttle body, and fuel injector cleaner periodically to counter carbon buildup.

      Savage geese spoke with the engineers of this engine and carbon build up is a non issue due to strong temperature management. If you would like to see watch his cx9 video

    Doesn't this technically count as a variable geometry turbo? It basically is one but just with the vanes relocated further up the exhaust stream

  • @ericb.4358
    @ericb.4358 5 років тому +5

    Yeah, my CX 5 GT Reserve is quick but on 100 octane racing gas (US $8.00/gallon) it is MUCH quicker. I also installed a K&N engine air filter but can't feel much difference after 2,500 RPM when it should be making a difference.
    ->The installation of a Cork Sport turbo down pipe is one upgrade that helped by noticeably improving throttle response.
    That said, I'm going to improve my CX 5's already good handling by replacing the OEM 225 width tires (when worn-out) with 245/50/19 tires for even better braking and handling - and a tiny bit less mileage.
    LOVE this SUV's turbo four even more than my 2007 RAV 4's 3.5 L. V6.

      If you’re looking for a sharper throttle response have a look at the EVC throttle Controller, very very popular in australia and no special skill required to install

      The 3.5 L. V6 RX7 was quick but the 2.5 L MAZDA CX-5 turbo is even quicker and it's partially due to the AWD being "on" all the time giving great launch traction. My engine has 320 ft. lb. of torque out of that 250 hp engine. Both SUV's are "thirsty".

    They should build F1 engines, but with Honda leaving F1 it isn't very inspiring for manufacturers like mazda to enter the F1 scene sadly

    • @khronin
      @khronin 2 роки тому +1

      Everyone is leaving F1--too many rules and I think except for mercedes because of hamilton--all other teams operate at a loss.I am not shitting on his skills--but just in qualifying he has 3 track rdy cars ready to go all in top condition while some teams have one and maybe a backup car--so he has the absolute best in every aspect--from practice to qualifying to the race.Also F1 has so many races where these cars can not pass anywhere so the starting grid stays the same--having a 700 HP car is all fine and dandy--but watching them do a bunch of turns at 50 MPH is boring--skill this skill that--Have these and indy cars goto Indy or some other hi speed oval and see who is the king. Or have them goto daytona where they mix a road course with a lap or 2 of the oval mixed in--those are the best races.

      VW and AUDI are the worse.--I just sold a Stinger Gt with a 3.3TT and both KIA and an Audi tech said you have to use premium once a month and get these engines out on a HWY--it is stop and go traffic and 87 octane fuel that causes this.I just bought a CX-30 and have my toll pass coming next week--every 2 weeks I would take my stinger out and hit triple digits and plan on doing the same with this CX-30.BTW german cars are bad because most of their testing is in germany where it is colder and they have an autobahn and can keep the engine at a high HWY speed burning any carbon out of the engine--udi tech also lived in Germany and said the core of the engines in germany are cleaner because of that compared to americans.I plan on using premium all the time anyway in mine.I have used premium gas and changed my oil at least every year and never had a major engine problem in any car I have owned.

      @@khroninIt doesn't matter what your car's speed is, it's engine RPM and load that affect this. But give it some throttle on a regular basis when up to full temp--it should help.
