In 1492 the last Muslim Caliphte ; Granada, was conquered by Christian Spanish Kingdoms of the north
The very same year Spain took the seas and claimed new colonies that made Spain the dominant power in Europe until the late 17th century .
The Spanish Empire opened the way for european colonization of the world by conquering the Canary Islands in 1402.
The sun finally set on the Spanish Empire in the Americas when the Spanish-American ended and in 1899 in Asia with the last pacific islands sold to the rising German Empire .
But the empire was not over yet , Spain still had colonies in Africa , nd to this day it holds many terroritories in Africa (Western Sahara is under Spanish administration)

se nota que no tienes ni idea de la historia de España, no se si conoceras la batalla de Pavia en la que los españoles aplastamos a los franceses y encima capturamos a su rey o la batalla de Lepanto una de las batallas navales mas grandes de la historia, o nuestras victorias contra los ingleses en la guerra anglo-española (1585-1604)y en la guerra de la oreja de jenkins (1739-1748) en esta ultima los ingleses sufrieron la mayor humillacion de su historia.

Spanish Empire was great but I don't think it was the greatest empire EVER. Other empires had more influence on the world. The Roman and British Empire for example.The Romans pretty much influenced all other later western empires. And the British Empire, because of it's global reach helped made English a truly global lingua franca.
I'm from Latin American, and I would have preferred to been conquered by the English. All the Spaniards did was pilige the natuaral resources like Gold for their own profits. While the English actually helped to make their colonies prosporous. Now we see which methods worked better.
