The Spanish are historically revered for documenting all the little details during their experiences, so the “someone make a note of that man’s bravery” is honestly 100% in character for them
I can attest to that as a relic hunter and researcher. There’s a publication called “The Spanish Regime in Missouri” which is three substantial volumes. Even when their influence was waning they kept detailed records as you say.
And what makes my mad about that is that they never acted upon all that documenting.
History is full of Spaniard legends that became forgotten to the average person in Spain cause nobody kept telling their stories
Not only was Spanish documentation detailed but it was also accurate. Some historians accused Conquistador accounts of giant Aztec skull towers in their capital containing 60,000 sacrificed victims as attempts to demonise the Aztecs... until excavations of the sites in Mexico City in 2015 revealed thousands of skulls with more continuing to be unearthed to the present day.
Yeah we kinda were like the Ancient Greeks, noting everything to not miss a thing. Even myself I note every little detail so the memory is complete (unlike the times I do not noted and have to struggle remember a good anecdote)
Probably left over from their Roman occupation.
Rome is so thoroughly chronicled due in no small part to their elites and businessmen being absolutely anal about records and documents. Spain being the same way would explain their success as a world power during the Renaissance and Age of Sail.

@@Castlecoke someone believes the black myth. Propaganda spread by the british and dutch enemies of spain in order to portray them as monsters as a way to undermine their newfound wealth and empire.
The spanish were the first European country to pass laws protecting the rights of natives. They did this not long after actually arriving in the new world and wellllllll before any other european nation did. 99% of the time if someone from a Spanish speaking country is bitching about the Spanish they probably have spanish heritage themselves and live in a nation built up by the spanish with many spanish cultural customs. Sadly they end up indoctrinated against their own ancestors rather than appreciating the greatness of what their fathers built. So sad. In reality the spaniards would have stopped halfway through the jungle a dozen times for beers, tapas and siestas and upon arrival only one or two would have worked on tearing down the temple while the rest looked with their hands clasped at their backs. As an Englishman, what I loved about these scenes is how they show that the British Empire really was still the underdog at this point. Generally a Briton was still regarded as a "pirata y heretic" by the Spaniards, and with good reason. The Spaniards were the power that made the world tremble, and any good honest pirate knew to pick his targets very carefully when Spanish ships were in the waters. It was largely fear of the Spanish that motivated the British to build an empire in the first place, and you really get that impression here. The fact they're depicted as being so gracious towards their defeated enemies is the icing on the cake. I have a lot of admiration for Spain and its accomplishments.

Or how much of the southern United States speaks Spanish and that the solution for the United States is to manipulate all Latino Americans through teaching, indoctrinating new Latino Americans to hate the Spanish empire because they are afraid of losing the control of the country in the coming decades in favor of Hispanics. Maintaining the American hegemony in the world, not the British, now with current technology makes it easier than maintaining an Empire 10,000 km away where each communication took two or three months to reach its destination, this makes it very difficult keep the order.

@@AustrianGuy I know, I am a Christian.
What I was taught is if you feel remorse over the sin that you have committed, God will forgive you. But there's also so many times you can commit that sin and ask for forgiveness before God decides to not to. Because if you do it over and over again, then you truly are not sorry. If you were truly remorseful, then you wouldn't do it again. But until one draws their final breath, it is not too late to seek forgiveness.
In case you are wondering, I am a nondenominational Christian.
@@TimberlakeTigerGirl Well, the Spanish commander obviously did it to defend his faith. He came here to destroy a pagan temple that had the powers to grant immortality and this is just not the way he thinks about eternal life. He shot the man because he was both British and a Protestant which makes him to an enemy of catholicism.
@@AustrianGuy If that's the case, why did the Spanish let the remaining British soldiers and even the pirates go? Weren't they also enemies to the faith, therefore needed to die? It's one thing to destroy the temple, I wholeheartedly agree with it's destruction. However, that man was unarmed and not threatening him or his soldiers; just making a declaration. The Spanish guy killed him just to get him to shut up; he could of just wounded him with an nonfatal shot (like to the leg), or commanded his men to grab him and pull him away.
Thou shall not kill is one of God's commandments. I was taught that the only time it is permissible to take another person's life is either in self defense or when in war with a people who seek to wipe us out. Even then, never raise your weapon to unarmed innocent civilians, especially children. I hardly call a guy holding a flag declaring something belongs to their king threatening the faith. I wouldn't call the British Empire the most evil in history because they're one of the first empires to ever outlaw slavery (among other things).
@@harrisonsamsonIt was the US and the English who promoted the story of the "Spanish Black Legend", in which the Spanish conquered America through plunder, massacre and rape.
In reality, this corresponds more to what the English did in the northern area, and that can be verified by seeing the appearance of the average citizen of the USA and Canada (although the French are involved in the latter, which is not much better).
Spain integrated the countries of Central and South America into its empire through nationalization and miscegenation, that's why it was called "New Spain".
Both benefited from each other, especially when it came to religion (the indigenous people made human sacrifices, not counting the multiple wars they had between them).

That is actually true, oddly enough; the Spaniard straight up said that the Fountain of Youth's "pagan water" couldn't grant eternal life... *and he was absolutely right.* All the Fountain does is let someone steal someone else's finite years like a soul parasite, and the Spanish destroying it ensured that nobody (specifically, scumbags like Blackbeard) could use it to continually steal immortality with the lives of innocents.
Blackbeard had no faith, just cowardice and arrogance... and not only does the Spaniard call him out on it *to his face,* but it ends up biting him square in the ass when Jack offered him to save his daughter.
