    Thanks for the How To Billy! I'm working on manuals now and I definitely see some things I've been doing wrong. I start too far back, I've been trying to pull up already at my balance point instead of pulling up and shifting back like you said. I'm also too low I think. You're a bit higher above the tire than I am. I am an expert at looping out now haha! I will definitely second the warning on the pegs, I started doing manuals before I put pegs on my bike. The first time I looped out after putting my pegs my heel got stuck on my peg! Something I started working on instead of just focusing on distance is hopping in and out of a manual. It mixes it up while you're learning manuals. Once you can manual just a few feet then you can start practicing these skills while you work on the distance.

    From another vid by Slow Grind on bunny hops, landing safely when looping out requires your knees/legs be bent, NOT straight as he demonstrates just before 4:00. If your legs are straight you have no way to ‘spring’ off the pedals and land safely. Thanks for these vids. FTL vids are some of the all time best, for real.

    I know this is quite old, but what I've noticed just riding around practicing: wear a back pack with a tiny bit of weight in it, a decent text book or something, I've notice when I have my bag with my skateboard attached to it, I lock in for a tiny bit longer, than when I'm riding with nothing. I'm assuming the counter weight helps your balance point and I'd you practice that a few times then either take a bit of weight out after 5 solid attempts, then repeat till you take the bag off all together. Don't know if that will help anyone but it's something I've noticed my self 🤟🏼

    Them Begin tires look beefy. Also, does psi affect the manual?

    • @evanmurray7421
      @evanmurray7421 3 роки тому +2

      Massively. Manuals are much easier for me with 25-40 psi. I cant manual anything higher but it's all self preference

    • @ryanace7914
      @ryanace7914 3 роки тому +1

      Yes. I use 40 psi

    • @MajloT
      @MajloT 3 роки тому

      I usually ride around 65-70PSI at the start of the week (or mainly sundays) and i have to tell you that on saturdays i manage to pull the longest manuals just because my PSI drop down a bit. With more PSI the back end is more responsive, try to go with 40-45PSI at first to feel more comfortable

    The thing that I wass forgetting when Im trying to learn how to manual more is to bend your knees! or just imagine that your going to sit on your back tire and your knees will follow then use your knees to control your balance by moving them backforth as you see everyone else doin
    Dont give up! I haven't 🙃

    So I have a frame with near exact geometry as the Voyager you ride. I also have 165mm cranks. Been hitting my back foot often on my peg while manually. I wear a size 9 - 9.5 street shoe and so I don't feel that might foot is too large for a short 12.5 chainstay. Is this something that you have had to deal with? Do you consciously try to angle your back foot down while in a manual to avoid catching your foot?

  • @talynsimpson1839
    @talynsimpson1839 3 роки тому

    So when picking the front up is it with your arms then straightening them? Or is it all one fluid motion of having weight forward then shifting back and that pops the tire up?

      @@eunangallagher1199 Yeah, but how tho? I think my problem was that my knees were too bent, my ass was even lower than when I stand straight on the ground, I almost touched my back tire. So when I bailed, I had no room to soften the impact, jammed my leg underneath, and crushed it with my own weight.
