In the 90s, it was rare to combine anime wall scrolls and real girls in your bedroom, but somehow Johnny made it work. 🤙
Haha!
I find it so cool how Johnny was a tremendous nerd but also cool skateboarder leather-jacket-and-bandana-wearing butterfly-knife-weilding arcade-stick-thief type of bad dude lmao
@Clootch it’s rare to see that even now man lol
@@Yukito590 You’re not wrong that it’s far more popular among normies these days. But a girl who looks like Johnnys Ex playing an obscure game like that? You would never see that even today. That’s a unicorn for sure. Not saying it’s impossible because we see it in the video. But Johnny was very lucky to have found her.
🤣
I'm so glad that you've documented your life over the years so we can really relive the memories with you.
This man is a legend. Plain and simple, he believed in his hobby and devoted so much love and attention to it and now it flourished into something beautiful. Hopefully I can do something like this.
Games are more expensive now
@@Godzilladad Games were way more expensive back in the day relatively, we had a lot less money and they cost as much and usually even more than they do now in 2022. Price drops were also uncommon and if they happened, they took a lot longer to happen. Nowadays, there are sales everywhere all year round
@@vcfreek You’re not accounting for inflation though my man. Also, let’s not forget that retro game collecting is near impossible due to the extreme prices we’ve seen in recent years. Jeez even collecting some new Nintendo Switch games will cost you a couple hundred a piece because of rarity from places like Limited Run.
Without the internet back then it was very rare to see a game go for more than retail price if it was used. You just didn’t see it.
@@Godzilladad Games were way more expensive back in the day matey 👍
Just cause I was curious, Chrono Trigger when it came out was $80 here in the U.S. That was in 1995, adjusted for inflation that same game would cost $148.93 today. When a ps1 came out it was $299, adjusted for inflation it would cost $556.63 today.
Feels like I am reminiscing with an old friend, just one that I haven’t met. Thanks Johnny for always sharing your memories with us!
EXACTLY!
This ^
Pretty much this 👍🏻
This right here perfectly summarizes the feel and draw of this channel. Pure ccomfort food 🤟🏻
Imagine having a Street Fighter II arcade in your room in the 90s! Best years to be a teenager.
Considering how uncool and stigmatized gaming and anime were then, it's so cool to see Johnny's rooms from then that were proudly declaring how cool all this stuff was.
In the end it was the cool people that were uncool. Wrap your head around that!
I miss the 90s. It just felt different back then.
@JungleBubble All these things would lead you to socialise with people, relate more to one another, share and experience your hobbies together. Everything being online now just creates distance and makes physical contact seem like more of a hassle, I feel.
While living through the 90s i used to think the 90s sucked. Now, oh how i miss those sweet naive times.
society now is made to be unsocial
As a teenager in the 90's, this was the life I dreamed of having. In the end, your parents were amazing for letting you have that space to begin with. I never had my own gaming room, but I do fondly remember my anime VHS tapes, X-Men comics and of course my CD collection. Some of those treasures I still have today, but much has been lost to time & many subsequent moves. This made me happy and brought back a lot of my own memories, especially those hot girls with cigarettes--I think I remember them most of all. 😄
I was lucky since my mother and I lived in a two flat apartment that was owned by my Grandmother and I not only had the basement to myself which was where I had my weights I had more than half of the other end of the house to myself. That's were me and my friend would go to ditch school ,read comic books and play video games. Since I was manly a metal head back then I never had any of those god awful trendy hairstyles from the 90s and my walls in my bedroom were filled to the brim with metal posters, anime and comics. Since also wasn't into smoking and so was the girlfriend I had back then nothing smelled like burnt stail ashtrays.
Ahhh the 90s...
What a time it was to be alive in that era.
The 90’s was the peak of western society.
@@yuukimasamura5143 I absolutely agree.
TAKE ME BACK!
@@yuukimasamura5143 "Western society" was never good. You're romanticizing a myth, Chud.
@@KMFDM_Kid2000 Wow I never Heard of the Name/Word "Chud" before. What does that mean? Where did that come from?
This makes me feel like taking more pictures and footage of my own life now, while I’m still young.
It becomes an absolute treasure to revisit decades later.
So cool that you documented & managed to save these time capsules to share with us. Thank You for that. I know I wish I still had pictures of some of those moments & people. Even if we grew apart, they were still important in that moment of time.
Even after all of these years (been watching/subscribed since 2010), I still am surprised/impressed how much dedication and foresight you had in to documenting all of this great stuff, Johnny. It is always such a treat seeing these nostalgic and cozy time capsules back to a simpler time, where worries were few, and excitement and adventure was always at a high.
PS. Your parents let you convert the downstairs into your own personal home base/man cave, drinking and goofing off with the mates, AND having a cute girlfriend who drew anime, and could game/progress in Cosmic Fantasy 2? You were living *THE LIFE,* Man! 🤟🏻
such good 90s vibes, now let's see the early 2000's apartment!
early 00's was a time to be alive.
He's got a video up of it!
I grew up in the 90s and always wished I could consume anime and games like this. You are so blessed to have had access to all of that. It's also so nice that you were able to capture moments of it from then. I sometimes take for granted how easy it is to document the present because in the past it wasn't always a common practice to record footage unless someone owned a video recorder
Watching this makes me wish I got photos of my childhood bedroom in the 90s. You're very lucky you have many memories recorded and photographed of this room! This is why I grew to love photography. Each video and photo allows you to cherish each moment. I day dream of reliving the 90s literally every day.
Warms my heart to hear someone call a boombox a 'Ghetto Blaster' again. Really takes me back! Gotta love that Flock of Seagulls hair, too.
Oh, and I stole the vinyl sticker from a Shinobi arcade cabinet back in the day, so you definitely weren't alone doing that. 😁
I'm from Hollygrove New Orleans (straight up hood) but we're the same age, and it's cool to see how similar our lives were. The only thing in your video I couldn't abide is stacking games and video tapes vertically. Can't do it. 😋
And yeah, I'd (still) be salty about the posters being torn off the wall as well. That would be a hard pill to swallow.
Also, I love that Golvellius shirt. That's AWESOME.
1:24 John flexin' 😂
Such a great video Johnny. Is always fun to go back in time :D
My bro! So crazy how nostalgic a room can be that I’ve never step foot in. Thank you for sharing
I think I'm like a year or two older than you (I turn 50 this year...no idea how that happened.) and this is like such a trip down memory lane for me.
i live for videos like this… always makes me feel nostalgic.
Love the hair. Also, watching this makes me go back to simple times with no social media and all.
Thank you for the nostalgia trip, Johnny, but I don't know how you do it. I don't know if it's just me, but for some reason I find it very painful to reminisce and look back at photos and videos of a younger me, with my friends at the time, and what we used to do and how we used to live, it almost makes me want to cry. Those were such innocent times, with not a care in the world. Sad that it will never be the same again.
Things have changed quite drastically over the past few decades and I don't believe that's just nostalgia talking.
Glory of a bygone era. Cheers Johnny. We grew up during a very special time!
I love your early gaming life stories and showing us photos of your gaming room from that time are just awesome to see Johnny.
my guy had the babes
Super cool to have this all documented! I’d love to be able to look back at my childhood rooms, but unfortunately I don’t have much to look at.
Truly special episode. So many things stood out as nostalgic relics, and it never gets old admiring them all from a viewer's perspective.
Thanks again Johnny. Good stuff.
This is so amazing. Longtime viewer. Thanks for sharing Johnny.
Really takes me back to the 90's, and what better way is there to time travel than this? Made my day, going through rough times here; thank you for posting this!! 🙂
Hope the times get better for you. Stay strong man.
Excellent storytelling! Thanks for sharing.
Till this day I still drive by and stalk my childhood house I lived in through the 80s till 2005. The memories and happiness I get from driving by is euphoric. Sometimes when I'm depressed or stressed I will visit the neighborhood and drive slowly by.
I remember my old game room also. Brings back memories. Take care.
I could be having a shitty day but I forget about it everytime you upload. Thanks for the uplifting and interesting content as always bud
This footage is GOLDEN. I love seeing stuff like this.
I was 6 when the Phantom Menace came out; I'll be 29 in a month. I was in the hospital the summer before it came out, I had a couple pre-release toys and a coloring book, it's so cool to see the toys again! I would've about died at the sight of your room back then. N64 was my first console, but my cousins had a Genesis and I was so fascinated by that thing
I was 7 when the phantom menace came out I'll be 30 in few months crazy how time flies I remember getting the Jar jar Bink's toy from somewhere it was like his head and you pushed a button and his tongue shot out haha If I remember correctly It didn't last very long due to the tongue picking up every bit of dirt imaginable haha 😂
dude. dude.
thank you for sharing this, this is awesome!!
I'm going through so much shit right now, and your videos are always such a comforting warm blanket for me. Thank you, Johnny.
Been following Johnny since 08/09 and feel the same way. Something relaxing and comforting about hearing Johnny and his optimistic views on gaming and past experiences.
I hope things will get better for you. 🙏
@@AzNstat thanks bud 🙂 Yeah, for about a decade and a half now, John, Robman, now Kim, etc consistently bring the smiles for me... even if it's TOO SATANIC! lol 😉
What an absolute treat.
Thank you for sharing your room
I love this video, it's so cool you have these little time capsules. Thanks for the memories, Johnny!
Thank you so much for sharing! Brings back so many memories of my setup! Blessed to live through my memories through yours 💕
That's awesome, such good times in the early to mid 90s myself. I remember when the Snes and Genesis were new and the console wars began with my friends. I was a Snes guy and my buddy was a Sega Genesis guy and we would argue back and forth on which was better. Hilarious looking back on it now.

Now this was some quality content. Crazy to see you from 22 years ago fam.
Glad you still here and doing ya thing. You’re always gonna be one of my favorite UA-camrs.
Hey Johnny, I absolutely love your content, dude! The nostalgia you bring to your channel is amazing.
This is some incredible time-travel stuff! Thank you so much for sharing!
I totally would have been mates with you in the 90s man. It was so hard to find people into this stuff back when I was younger.
thanks for this video. what I like about this channel is that things, like this video, come from the heart. it's spontaneous. reverted me back to my own experiences as well, like the posters I had on my wall back in the day. thanks for sharing your experience
What a trip to the past.
Thanks for sharing this Johnny ,)
Greetings form Portugal.
Excellent video! I still have a few photos of my game room from 1989! It’s a trip seeing my shelves filled with Master System and Genesis games. I still have all of my games from back then.
Amazing. Thanks for sharing your memories. Brought back a ton of mine.
It's great seeing how things have changed over the years. Thanks for sharing so much of your life with us!
that hair alone is with 10,000 words! You're the best Johnny! What a vid!
AMAZING to see footage from this john love seeing the original game room from the 90`s!!!
This is so awesome, thanks for sharing!
Your contributions to this platform are amazing. Yet another fantastic video!
I LOVE THIS VIDEO! This is why I follow the channel! I love seeing all the cool stuff and so passionate.. I wish more we had more people like you in this world!
I see why you keep up the weekly updates bro.. at least in my opinion. You’re INSPIRED. Whether a game or a soundtrack or sentimental memories from such a tried and wonderful past etc….you’re inspired and it pushes you to keep going. It’s working pal. Stay inspired…for all of us.
Such nostalgic vibes watching this. Thanks for sharing.
Love this! Thanks for sharing man!
These reminiscing videos are really touching keep it up Johnny ❤️
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful memories with us.
You could see the joy in your eyes while you were reliving all those wonderful memories while looking at those pictures/video...very cool. Thanks for sharing Johnny!
4:34 Iori Yagami-like hairstyle, glowing red eyes, badassery? Yep, Johnny was definitely part of the Orochi clan in the 90s.
12:20 Aw yes, the ever famous Kyo Kusanagi wall scroll. Wish I had that.
Thanks for sharing man, loved it.
I hate to say this but thank God your parents took down your artwork on the walls because it made you say “Ok I’m gonna go nuts now” haha I love that. Maybe that has fueled your passion even more so into becoming HappyConsoleGamer which is my favorite UA-cam channel. I always enjoy getting to know Johnny better. The 90’s must be my favorite decade.
Happy Sunday everyone! I'm so glad you have footage from back then...I used to stay up until 3 a.m watching evangelion vhs tapes and playing megaman or some jrpg.
This is so awesome to see!
Just a great video down memory lane!!
Wow! This is like going back into a time machine. I just love the vibe and era of the 90s so much. Thanks for sharing this!
So cool and inspiring looking back at your past game room!
thank you for making this
great video. love your trips back to the past.
It's really cool that you kept all this old footage. Makes me really wish I had taken more photos/videos of my family home to look back on.
Its awesome that you recorded so much of your life. Awesome video!
Great video, Johnny. We all have nostalgic memories from gaming back in the 90s, and all entertainment culture of the time :)
You do you, but if you're ever feeling the vibe, I and I'm sure everyone who's been a fan for the last ten+ years would love and appreciate a 2022 video
game room tour.
Nice being able to look back on stuff like this 🤠👍
Yeah ... feel your Pain from the
redecorating fiasco, parents have some strange ideas on what's best for their kids... but they meant well I guess 🤠
awesome video! enjoyed it!
Ahhh the 90s.. how I miss thee😭
Love these Old videos! So much nostalgia
Amazing game room, and its great you have all the video from that time.
Love the nostalgia of this channel. 🖤
>Video starts
>Ys music plays
This is why this is the best channel
EDIT: And FF8 music?! Impecable taste
Xenogears, too!
Wow this was a great video man.
Johnny thank you so much for taking the tamime to share all those wonderful memories with us. Boy what a time it was to be alive! ❤️
I love these nostalgic game room tours. I loved the 90s so much, what a great time and I'm jealous of those awesome anime posters you had. Now I want to look for old pictures of my rooms from back then.
I love this type of video as it brings back so many similar memories of my own! It was made even better with the fact that the background soundtrack was music from Sonic Adventure. Top stuff chap.
Great stories from the king of story tellers! Thanks Johnny for sharing your memories!
recently got some City Hunter tapes from William Chow and they look exactly like the ones in your stack. I actually redid one of my walls of posters and modeled it after that first picture to get the same collage feel and it turned out great so thanks for the inspiration
The Robotech poster! I think you recommended Robotech in one of your videos. I saw the blu-ray at Walmart just the other day and decided to pick it up. I love it so far
You did a fantastic job documenting all that. I wish I had a camera back then.
Wow, to get to see these rooms we have heard so much about was a blast! I used to take my NES game boxes and hang them on the wall with thumbtacks through the back. So when you mentioned showing off the TG16 boxes, I instantly understood the impulse.
If only we had known each other at this age… you would have been the coolest person I knew. God emperor of the geeks.
As fellow Canadian that grew up in Peterborough and about the same age as you, this was very nostalgic and similar to my old room.
Man, so many great memories and playing a lot of these old games really brings back a flood of other non gaming related memories that happen around the same time.
The enthusiasm coming across in this video is off the scale lol love it!
I love that game room in the 90's , this video just bring so many memories of me ripping out the pages of gaming magazines and anime to put them on my door.
Videos like this make me so jealous (not in a serious way). I've loved games my entire life but I could never have had a room like this. I always love seeing yours, though. Thanks for sharing the fun memories, Johnny.
I’m 19 now, it’s a little crazy how years from now I’ll probably be looking back on where I’m at right now and my room. Great video!
Nice to see your video just when I´m making a retro gameroom with just items from last century.
Thanks for sharing the memories. I'm around the same age as you so I grew up with the same nostalgia for these items. Sadly I lost much of my original items over the years. I got in to anime heavily so I spent a lot of money on that, vhs tapes and those bootlegs from video shops. To fuel that I sold many classic games which I heavily regret. I kept some things such as old Nintendo Power magazines, but much like happened to you my parents threw them away while I was gone included some old video game items. Like you I understand it was their home but it still stings....
90s Johnny with the Five Star Stories poster! Damn! Talk about good taste!
Really loved seeing this! It reminds me a lot of my time when I was that age. I was into almost exactly the same things! Unfortunately, I didn't document any of it, and most of it has been lost to time. This was a great trip down memory lane! Makes me wish I lived in your neighborhood back in the day, I'm sure we would have been great friends! I know that sounds a bit weird. Haha!
Exactly this^ I wish I'd have taken pictures and videos of that time
This is very inspiring for my current retro-gaming experience!
