Yes! Mine do it! I put plastic grates on the top with suction cups.my water is crystal clear.. I do water changes once a week. I have two huge air stones… only 2 of my 5 fish do it. I have a 75 gallon tank. I hand feed them rapashy food. They gulp air every time I clean the tank. I think they are looking for food because they were raised with floating food by the seller as babies.
I have the same problem with my 2 orandas. After every meal they gulp air for ages. I've have plenty of surface agitation and aeration and my parameters are fine yet it happens after every feed. I'm baffled by it
Hi JP, I'm convinced its just something wrong with the fish. Only happens to the same fish even if the water is perfect and only after feeding. Subscribe for more videos!
Mine do this too but after like an hour or so they go back to acting normal (stopped gulping air) I think it might be because the food causes a spike in ammonia or something? It only happens within the time range of feeding time so it’s weird but yeah logically it would be because of the spike in ammonia?
The same happens to my to my only fancy goldfish in a 30 gal run by a sponge filter, so I doubt it's lack of oxygen. I also tested the water and I had 0 ammonia, 0 no2 and 10 no3 so I can't understand why he does that.
ive had my first oranda goldfish for 8 days now and he does this too. its confusing, its a 40 gallon tank with 4 oversized sponge filters with air pump set on max. he is the only fish in there right now and the water quality is good so oxygenation should not be an issue. it is concerning because like why is he doing that? it makes me think there's an issue but I don't think there is, because he is otherwise super active and healthy. it hasn't caused any issues so im gonna try to not worry about it too much. maybe your/our fish are just kind of quirky?
@peterskoiandgoldfish8261 hey! My oranda got over this habit a long time ago and he's been thriving. It was definetely just a weird quirk he had for awhile. Also also could've been boredom or loneliess? No clue. He now has friend, who is a ranchu
It has lots of algae, so it's not because of ammonia or nitrates. But I don't see any air bubbles at the left half of aquarium, its lack of oxygen that causes gulping for air. I'd put some air stone to the left part of aquarium, throw in some snails to eat some algae, and get some live plants like pothos and peace lilly.
Hi Aditya, I believe it is just a habit that some goldfish have. Has not caused major issues as long as the goldfish spits out the air. Subscribe for more videos!
@@peterskoiandgoldfish8261 hi mam, appreciate the quick response. My goldfish just keeps floating because of this issue. I think that that this can further cause swim bladder issues. I think it can be gill issue but I am reluctant to put any medicine yet. I will observe her for another week .
@@adityathakare7997 Sounds like a good plan. If you aren't already, feed sinking food instead of floating food and maybe try soaking the food in water for a few minutes before feeding as well.
@@peterskoiandgoldfish8261 I checked yesterday and it came out fine. Not sure why are they doing it. Shall I change the water? It's only 3 days since I dechlorinated and moved the fish in it.

Hey Filo! I change the water frequently and I have a filter and two air pumps in the tank so I don't think its an water or oxygen problem.
