How do I know what good agitation is? (Creating a current in the water, or bubbles pushing down from the surface, or less dramatic?…this would be coming from a back mounted filter in small tank and now only one fish sadly) I’ve cleaned the rocks, drained much of the water, cleaned the glass and replaced the water and filter but he still seems in distress and like he has to go to the surface to breathe. Usually he’s a chill dude that kind of hangs out 2 inches off the bottom and even sleeps that way. He also gets a bit manic and spastic when something is wrong with the water, but given it’s all freshly replaced or 75% of it easily and I’ve suctioned up the bottom, I don’t know how else to help and he’s clearly in distress. Should I remove the lid? Maybe there isn’t enough good air above the water level and it’s trapping the CO2? There really isn’t any vent to the top other than a one inch trap door to drop food flakes through. 🤷🏼♀️ It almost seems like the fish is hanging out in the back of where the fresh water is falling into the tank from the filter. He even wants to eat close to the filtration unit, rather than chasing flakes around the tank. I’m not really sure what to do about the situation quickly, or how dire it is. Should I keep the lid off, and agitate the water a bit on top? Or try replacing the water again? I will try ordering some plants as well as the test strips. I sort of inherited this fish from a family member that decided to get my small children fish as a back to school present 🙃 That said, I never really got the instruction manual and seem to be playing catch up and find I really care about this little guy and just want to help him since he’s in distress. I’m more attached than the kids are at this point ;) Sorry for the novel! Any advice on my silly questions would be amazing! Cheers, CC
My goldfish has a white film over his face and his fins are constantly closed I’ve put anti fungal treatment and all sorts of things but he still seems very sick I’m gonna try the paraclense I’m also replacing his water with clean spring water and I got him a green water filter but besides that I don’t know how to help him
Hi. I need your help please!! Don't know what to do. My cichlids are swimming on the top gasping for oxygen. I have a air stone and a wave maker. Water test, amm-0, Nitrate-40, Nitrite-0,Hardness-25(very soft),Chlorine-0,Alkalinity-180,PH-7.8,Temp-82. Thx in advance. Did 25% water change...
Hi. It can be hard to advise over UA-cam comments. My best advice would be to go to forum.aquariumcoop.com and post there. It’s much easier to diagnose issues when photos can also be shared. 👍🏻
I've struggled for years with my goldfish gulping air but only after feeding which results in surface floating. I feed once a day at moment as they gulp after every feed so feeding more means gulping more no matter what i feed but always sinking food. My surface agitation is good as i have 2 fluval fx6 a surface skimmer, a uv filter and an air stone. I use an api fresh water test kit and all tests levels are low. As the only gulp air after feeding would you still use the esha 2000 parasite treatment ? Also can you have too much filtration in a tank? As a cpl of years ago i took 2 fish out that were the worse offenders of gulping after food as i was at my wits end and put them in a container in my garden with zero filtration. I hardly see them but they seem to be happy and growing and defiantly not gulping air after feeding. Ive googled a goldfishes preferred environment is STILL MURKY PONDS. Hope you get this and can offer some advice. Many thanks JOHN.
Hi John, So I read your comment a couple of times to get my head around it. Are you saying your goldfish ARE gasping at the surface, but only after eating?
@@FishKeepingAnswers Hello and thanks for reply . Yes that's correct. I've googled the issue since it started 2018 and there's loads of people asking the same question. Why does my goldfish gulp air after feeding.
John, I have to be 100% honest, it isn’t something I have ever heard of and I can’t offer you any insights. My recommendation would be to join the Aquarium Co-op forum which I think is forum.aquariumcoop.com. It’s a great forum with with some really knowledgeable people.
How often do you clean your external filter on a tank this size ? I have a 5ft 450L with an fx6 filled with biohome ultimate and 5 fancy goldfish and 9 otocinclus , lots of plants x
So, truth be told, I probably only clean my external filters 2 or 3 times a year, but I do have an intake sponge over the filter intake, which means very little physical debris makes it into the filter.
@@FishKeepingAnswers thanks for reply again so quickly ! I have so many questions for you I couldn’t fit them all in a UA-cam comment lol I think I’ve possibly been over cleaning my filter then , I will try your idea of a sponge in the inlet for sure , I got to ask again about your crypto wendtii green , I bought some baby plants recently after you told me what yours were, I’d love mine to bush out and get lovely and green , do you use co2 or anything ? I’m currently using just fine gravel and root tabs and dosing with seachem flourish once a week x
If you check out the first video I added to my channel (ua-cam.com/video/l_ntB6VXhTQ/v-deo.html), you will see my 155g Congo Tetra tank. The Crypt wendetii in that tank does not recieve liquid ferts, I don't use root tabs and I never bother to inject CO2. Every single plant in that aquarium came from a single specimen I bought about 4 years ago. Crypt wendetii grows by producing baby plants. Every few months you simply pull up the whole clump and ease away each of the baby plants. If yours are new, just give them time. They start off slowly, but once they get going there will be no stopping them.
@@FishKeepingAnswers Oh good. Can we keep anubias glued to rocks? Do you supply CO2 for this plant growth? What fertilizer do you use for this plant? Please reply.
Hi sir frist of all thanks for this vedio and now my fish do grasp and I change water daily but I use tap water what I do now one fish has been dead and I dont have any knowledge about fish please save my oscar fish and the sucker fish I am waiting for your reply 😢

How!? Haha
What kind of plants can be kept in a goldfish tank?
Don't they eat plants and uproot the roots?
Please tell me.
I usually use Crypt wendetti ‘green’. They don’t eat it or uproot it 👍🏻
