Matpat retiring was something I absolutely didn't expect. But at the same time, I'm happy he's able to quit on a high note and *make* the decision to do so in his own terms. I'll miss him, but I'm also excited to see how Tom, Amy, Santi and Lee keep the channels going (and Ash, of course!)
It actually made it much sadder that he was clearly upset by this. I'm sure him wanting to leave Game Theory behind has been bothering him since the thought first popped into his head.
We cant ask more of Tom Scott, the sheer amount of top tier content both entertaining and highly educational that he provided to us is something that's just amazing. Truly a gem.
Unus Annus proved that not only is quitting okay, but it’s an important step to the creative process. They went to the extreme with it, but they proved their point. Let’s also not forget that Anthony is back in Smosh. I never used to watch old-school Smosh, but I dig the new stuff they are putting out with Anthony. And when big creators retire, new creators will rise, because the demand for content isn’t going to disappear.
@@coopergaming4779 deleting the channel was a form of artistic expression that extends beyond the surface level content they produced. It’s in the same vein as Banksy, who destroyed their own art after it was sold at auction for 1.4 million. In fact, the revenue potential of Unus Annus is probably well over 1.4 million. The fact that they gave that up, the money, the memories, everything, makes that channel mean more than what the individual videos meant. If you don’t understand the message they were trying to create, that’s fine, but it was a very meaningful message about the temporary state of existence we all possess. My question for you is if you thought deleting your channel was the biggest mistake you had ever made, why did you proceed to do it 9 more times over the course of several years?
Amen! Smosh is a prime example of creator rebirth! U may move on to something else, but the mark u made on the platform will alwyas remain & will always receive back
ayo wat the hail is this guy doing here? my keyboard reccommends me fire words for some reason like rec = recommence wat = water incidental fr = friendsumé
Going out on a high note is super respectable. It can be hard to let go of something you've spent so long creating, but it allows you to put that time and energy into other things that can be just as, or more meaningful
Not really. These retirements often take a lot of planning and consideration. Nobody is going to retire just because Tom Scott gave everyone the collective go-ahead. This is just a generational shift, these people have been doing videos for over a decade.
matpats video hit me pretty hard and in turn, so did this one. I didn't watch matpat all that much just a few videos here and there over the years but in the online spaces I frequent (vtubers) there have been a lot of people "retiring" (in vtuber/idol world we call it graduating). Most of those people who have been graduating work for companies where they can't really talk about why they have decided to move on so it was really nice to hear someone talk about working in the space of youtube and online content creation speak openly and honestly about such a big decision. I also 3 weeks ago left my job that I had been working at for almost 10 years to explore a different field and it's been scary. it's nice to see people talk about big decisions like this when I've been making those same decisions too. I wish all the best for matpat (and in my vtuber circles Pomu Rainpuff who is graduating next week
Seeing youtubers quitting makes sense, but is still something that I didnt really realize would become a trend sooner or later since I have been on this platform for so long Good for these people though, and hope they enjoy their well-deserved extra time for themselves and their families
matpat has undoubtably left his mark on the internet. its not just a theory, not a game theory; but a fact that he will always be remembered as the legend that he is
spending 90% of your life catering to an audience who's always watching sounds like a bit of a nightmare. i'm just happy that these creators gave us so much content for so long :]
Sounds more like they just experience what is like to have a real job and because they are so rich they can just quit it instead of having to wait until you are 80. Lazy ass school dropouts never stood a chance against the real grind.
@@tmdiz4579dawg most of the ppl retiring are still doing shit like managing their businesses. Calling them lazy when people like matpat worked a theatre job while doing UA-cam, then ran multiple businesses just makes you seem out of touch with reality
@tmdiz4579 you didn’t even fucking watch Matpats video did you? The amount of time he has spent on the channel, the dedication and effort is insane and is incomparable to many jobs. Sounds like you’re sad because you know you’ll never have the skill to be able to entertain millions of people for years on end
"Announce"? C'mon man, what's the point of owning a production company if you can't throw a huge retirement event that would set a new viewing record? 😎
Sorry to hear that you're quitting youtube Ludwig. You will always be remembered as one of the most inspiring, creative content persons who pushes to new frontiers. (Suika) I really wish you weren't quitting youtube but what's most important is that you're happy. I wish you all the best on your future journey.
I found the way you talked about opening a bakery so touching, what you said exactly portraits what I think any job should be: doing something that directly impacts your local community in a positive way. I think we would all be so much more in touch with each other, so much happier and more fulfilled if everyone's job was something like that. I hope to get to that sort of job myself too someday, hope we both make it! Thanks for this video :)
yeah, Mat being the host of 4 channels, and being the final say for an entire brand must have been taxing. Im glad he's getting his much needed break, and will keep doing what he loves while putting more focus on his family
Yeah, to be honest this retirement is expected. He's been talking about replacing himself for a while now, even with AI, he sold his channels and completed the set too. It's predictable.
@@MaximusChivusI've been watching Gametheory for the last 12ish years, it got notably worse in the last 3-5 years to the point where I unsubscribed from all the Theory channels a couple months ago.
honestly, i'm just glad we've got some OG youtubers stepping back or pivoting because they're making a healthy decision for their passion and work-life balance, rather than turning out to be awful people doing disgusting shady shit behind the scenes.
I agree. In the past 6 or so years we've seen loads of people who've built up their brands and their trust in fans, only to reveal themselves (accidentally or deliberately) as horrible people, horrible managers, or horrible role models. Of course, the good people like MatPat stay for longer than the rest because they aren't likely to end up being 'horrible', but nonetheless, it just isn't worth the risk sometimes especially when it's very easy for the internet to pivot on you completely these days. I'm happy that he's going to be getting more time doing the things that matter to him with the whole Theorists operation. I'm just so so so so sad that I'm no longer going to be able to anticipate a GTLive as often as I want to (I assume he's putting a halt to GTLive as well because he said "I don't want to sit down to play a game and have to think of it as content").
This video echoes what so many of us feel about life, not just UA-cam. Change is hard but essential for growth. All the best to Mat and all those who are braving new waters in search of that elusive balance.
“We all change, when you think about it. We’re all different people all through our lives. And that’s OK, that’s good, you gotta keep moving, so long as you remember all the people that you used to be.” - A certain raggedy man.
Mogul Mail is probably some of the best 'slop content' out there. He actually informs you on what is going on and doesn't just show edited stream clips/large chunks of other people's content
Quitting while still being highly sought after regarding content is a strong sign of confidence and it shows they're not feeling chained down to the internet, or a audience any longer. As much as I praise the internet for what it brought us, it isn't everything. There so much more to life than being online and chasing the hottest topics whether you watch or make them yourself. Props to these content creators for being brave and moving on before they completely get burned out of it.
@cowdudeYFGAfan Even if you did make better videos, portraying a personality like that in your first comment will never lead to any success. Respect goes a long way, man.
Another one that really hurt was Jocat. He was harrassed off the internet recently because people took offense to a 2 year old video he made celebrating women of all types and they sent him death threats. It was like the most wholesome person I have seen on the internet and his family was threatened for liteally nothing. I hate the internet.
Honestly I think this needs a bit wider-spread of attention, he's such a wholesome nice dude and didn't deserve that type of treatment at all. It's even worse that it was because the video did too well and people outside his community were the ones harassing him while his supporters mostly had no idea this was happening and he was struggling
@@thechanneloflife924 Yeah he talked about it in his last community post. The newest vid he posted is his last. He will post his DND campaign still but will be unlisting it and ending it soon.
Ludwigs voice remains as one of the most grounded and honest in the creator space, truly interesting to hear a creator break down things you always think about, “end up in a sunnyv2 obituary video” is an insane quote. the UA-camr onision is who I thought about right away when you talked about fall offs. These graceful step downs should definitely continue to become the norm
Matpat used to do consulting for other youtube channels and brands whilst running game and film theory, planning food theory, and concepting style theory. The man just has insane work ethic.
Makes perfect sense to me that so many of the older UA-camrs are moving on to other things. I’ve also seen a few mentor people like Anthpo and Seth Everman, and those two had talked about this year marking their end since the beginning of the years before they retired. I’m glad people are moving to find happiness elsewhere before they “jump the shark” in TV terms.
Having seen a lot of creators/teams break up over less good circumstances, (not even talking about cancelled people necessarily, a lot of channels and websites I've liked have had to end/drastically change because of financial reasons or not getting along with their longtime coworkers anymore) I think it's such a breath of fresh air to see people just quit because they want to. People shouldn't be stuck in the cycle of endless workload no vacations content creation forever; in my eyes the main reason to work super hard is so that later in life you can work less hard. That some of these creators can now cash out and slow down is actually such a positive thing. I hope more people can retire comfortably from content creation in the future. It sucks to not get their content anymore, but everything in life changes, everything ends eventually. It's so much better when it doesn't have to end on a sour note, at least.
I feel like a neat part of youtube is that the way youtubers 'retire' is always gonna be unique to each individual. I think that's why it's so hard to label the action because a label can encapsulate a career that parallels how infinitely many different ways people's lives change. Y'all are pioneers of a new time , honestly you guys each get to decide how you want to handle it and you can , and that's really cool and I think you made really great points and I hope that everyone does what's right for them and be brave enough to be role models in such a unique and still new playing field like this. I know a lot are shitty and end badly but I'm hopeful that those are learning opportunities for the next generation and that the positive infuelces shine brighter and stay stronger than the shitty ones , otherwise the next generation is fucked if we keep getting jack dohedouche and not enough genuine inspiring and educational role models like you and Lindsay Nicole (I Stan , let her teach you the world) and I could list others but I'm tired good night thank you for coming to my bed talk 🎤 goodnight
It's a crazy feeling realizing that youtubers get older and eventually have to hang it up. Especially when you're a lot younger and you've been watching those youtubers since you were even younger than that. It's so weird. Like you know they are real humans but them getting older and retiring feels so wild. But lately, especially with matpat for me, it feels a lot more real.
It happened to me with CoryxKenshin. Started watching him in 2017, and seeing his channel dead is sad. But I know he's there; he'll come back, soon or later, I feel. It'd be wrong to leave us hanging, even though we know it's coming. I just hope more people take the PewDiePie route, uploading for fun at your own pace.
I really cant see lud quitting in at least a couple of years. Not fully at least. Maybe toning it back eventually but man the dude just has too many cool ideas he wants to do xd
@@jacksonknoll5350 True, good point. Idk tho I still think content and entertaining is a too big part of his personality still. At least it seems that way, we cant really know I guess cuz we’re not his friends ;D
I also think this is a case of collective understanding. It feels like a good time- the start/end of a new year. A lot of these people are starting families or are already trying to raise kids and that can be really hard when your focus is on big production, regular uploads. When one goes, stating why they decide to step back, it can act as a catalyst. That reason might resonate pretty hard with some long term creators. They start to think about it, wonder what the reasons are for continuing these big projects, and then finally deciding that maybe stepping back is a good idea. But, as sad as it is, it is a good thing and I am immensely proud of every single one of them for doing what is best for them
He's closer to 50 than he is 20. He should be able to enjoy his home life and his work life. This is a good thing for him. I'm happy for a lot of these youtubers who have decided it's time to move along. Everyone's time comes eventually.
I'm in the same boat with my channel. I had a few years of content that I love but I didn't want to keep beating the same dead horse until views got lower and lower so I've just stopped uploading until I can come up with a new angle that I'm happy with where my channel won't just fade unto obscurity
This honestly was a nice video for comfort and closure. Many fans are sad because of these people’s impact on their lives, which is something that is natural and completely justifiable. But they can also find happiness knowing the people they idolize are now fulfilling their self happiness by giving up the source of their fame and capital, which is the right decision for anyone if it means less workload and a chance to live life. Thank you to all of those who constructed our childhoods and we salute to your service o7
In regular jobs, nobody stays in the same role as long as a UA-camr. In the film industry for example, you move up the ranks from getting coffees to director. It makes total sense to me that UA-camrs that have been hosting for 10 and 14 years are moving on to another phase of their life. It just feels like a lot because it’s a lot of successful UA-camrs of a certain era, who have had the success to be able to step back.
No one is moving up from making coffee to being a director lmao in what kind of fantasy world are you living? Because this is the absolute exception. I hope no one who wants to become a director starts at making coffee on a movie set. Because 99.9% of the times you get stuck. Guys, go to film school. It's all about making connections. No one will ask for your opinion if you make coffee. They will of you went to film school. Sounds stupid but it's the way to go. Having a jewish name helps a lot of you want to work in hollywood or at least some influential jewish friends. Or you prove yourself on the internet. The up wards movement on a page like yt is much, much higher. In a company you rely on a person with more power and influence to notice your talent. You can spend your whole life and this can never happen. While on youtube if you have talent you will rise. There is no single person deciding your fate. It's actually the other way around. On yt you can go from making coffee aka earning pennies to a director aka earning big bucks. In a company without connections, not so much. Welcome to reality, pal.
@Noqtis you gotta work less on bigotry prose and more on reading comprehension. They said GETTING coffee not MAKING coffee -- aka, being an Intern. Something they encourage you to do at Film School. It's like people don't even try anymore
@@layabstar What the fuck are you even talking about? No, they don't encourage you at Film School to get coffee for the staff, are you nuts? Film school doesn't teach you, to do stuff someone can do without any education at all. Do you know how many people work at such a production. There are like 100 people who have less to do than someone who went to Film School and got employed because of his credentials. You learn there how to make movies. At no point in all of your studies will they ever encourage you to get coffee. Stop this pathetic shit. Getting coffee for your interns is how you show that you can't contribute something worthwhile in the same time so you are getting coffee. Definitely the wrong move if you ever want to become a director. You better use the time you are wasting on such stupid shit to come up with an actual improvement or an intelligent way to cut costs in a scene without any loss in quality. you have to make them appreciate your skills. if you make them appreciate how you get them coffee, that's the best way to get stuck forever in getting people coffee.
@@mrshovelbottom7475 bullshit. most start ups are made by people with money. they don't make coffee and watch people until they magically get a chance to fund a company. they get funding and do it. if you are ever asked to bring/make coffee, you better make the worst job possible, in your very own interest. in every job and business. no start up will be successful because it was made by someone who can make good coffee to his piers lmao what is this bullshit? skip that shit. make your company some money. no one will ever ask you making coffee because everyone will know it's a waste of money. every minute you waste making coffee the company has to lose money. that's how you get promoted to a better position. no one goes from water boy to quarterback. different skill sets. if you ever get asked to bring the coffee, you are the least useful person in the room and should change that if you ever want to make a career, not doubling down on it. but you do you. just remember in 50 years that I told you why you are still making coffee.
Watching MatPat's video felt like watching Mr. Roger saying goodbye. Ive been watching for 10 years now and he has certainly been a big part of my childhood
@valentineroo Yeah, because it's not like you can look back on something you never experienced and draw comparisons to something you can relate to or anything. Honestly lmfao
I didn’t believe it when I saw someone tweet out “seeing MatPat retire…” so I literally said “what?!?” Out loud and immediately went to his channel. I’m not going to lie I cried a lot, I went back to the very first video I ever watched of the game theorists and it’s been almost 10 years, my love for science and getting information for random topics literally stems from watching so many theory’s from him for years. As happy as I am for him, I am going to miss him saying “well that’s just a theory…. A GAME THEORY”
Oh man. I'm on the same page as you. 10 years with MatPat has been a long and wild ride, but it's all been fun. Had I not found his channel back then, I wouldn't have been able to have this much interest and I wouldn't have put this much value into STEM topics and critical thinking as I do now. I can only hope to be a 'theorist' for the rest of my life, now that it won't be MatPat at the helm of things anymore.
Let's hope it goes more the Jeopardy route and not the =3 route. I'll take a steady host and a slow decline over a rapid-fire spree of hosts that just confuse people into not watching.
Man the whole Matpat vid had me crying , ruined my day a bit. While it is sad, it is also understandable to do this. He is retiring to spend more time with his family and others. He has a life like all of us, and he should enjoy it thoroughly. Everyone retiring has given us 1 third of their life to us and we should be contempt with it.
As a Rooster Teeth and Yogscast fan from the good old days, I totally get that. Each is a shadow of what it was, and with all the bad news constantly coming out after a while it just gets depressing. I feel like the quality of their older works is actively diminished when I can't recommend them without putting a big asterix on the end. Above all else, it just hurts to watch something and someone you enjoy keep going long after any passion and creativity has left. Another thing I do feel is worth noting is that a lot of the guys who are leaving now got their breaks around the same era of UA-cam. Tom Scott puts it best-he did Things You May Not Know for 10 years to the day. People who only know Jerma for his streams may find it odd that he's retiring "so early", but some of us still remember him as the massively influential TF2 UA-camr from the early 10s. That was roughly around the same era MatPat started producing content as well. What percentage of people quitting now have been creating content seriously-REALLY seriously-for around 8-12 years? I'd hazard to guess quite a lot.
My theory is that we are finally running up against the UA-camr lifespan. This hadn’t been an issue until now because UA-cam was still in its infancy. Now, though, many creators have been grinding it out for a decade or more. They’re just ready for a change. Think of UA-camrs as hamsters, and UA-cam as a humongous cage. Whenever a new channel is created, another baby hamster gets thrown in the cage. You won’t have many hamsters dying for the first few years because none of them are old yet, but eventually you’ll reach a critical point where your first hamsters begin dying naturally. That critical point is where I think we are - lots of the early UA-camrs looking for a change in pace. But that’s just a theory… A GAME THEORY
I think overall it's better for the OG UA-camrs to be able to make that choice either way, especially if the alternative is getting hit by the cancel culture bus or whatever, which would be unfortunate but it feels like it happens a lot recently.
A lot of these early UA-camrs are also in their 30s now or have families, which I think is a point where a lot of people find themselves thinking more about what they want to do with their lives. You can take all the experiences you've had in your 20s and early 30s and start something fresh.
I used to watch him more or less regularly for more than a decade. It's like having a friend leave to another country or something. He's still somewhere out there and we might even see him again one day, but I just lost a part of my life
I think an interesting example of a person I think quit at the best time is Bill Waterson, who wrote the Calvin and Hobbes comic strip. I absolutely love the strip and the years since he stopped writing have only made his work seem even better. I think that's a better way to go than something like the Simpsons, who most agree has been getting worse and worse since its peak around season 7 or 8. Now the Simpsons seems like it will continue forever, but the ideal version of the show has already been made and is long in the past.
The old age of youtube is truly dying, and the new age beastification, short attention span, and being the worse person imaginable for clout is on the rise. Kinda miss when pewdiepie was 1#
It’ll be interesting to see how the channels do post matpat. I definitely feel like they have the format down well enough that someone could take over. But I think the clean break might hurt them more than if he’d gradually let other people host episodes
Just today dunkey announced that he is not quitting youtube, this is such a crazy time for youtube especially because he (and matpat and tom scott) are all some of my favorite creators
"Be here forever" dude I do not know if it was on purpose or not but that felt exactly like Rick Yelling at Morty at the end of the episode when he was talking about Adventures forever. Thanks. It made me laugh.
As long as Markiplier, CoryXKenshin, Boze vs. the World, & some others aren’t going anywhere, I’m fine. A lot of people are getting burnt out, as am I.
@@smokesparkdragonfly1368 Markiplier has already soft retired tbh, the man does whatever and will make videos when he feels like it. He deserves it though.
I’m an UA-camr in Brazil with 2.6M subs and 900M views (non short). I still like what I do but for me to retire as a Portuguese speaker is quite impossible. English speakers UA-camrs you are so privileged. The reason is in Brazil I earn 1/8 of what you guys earn. I would love to create other stuff but I don’t have time, sometimes I wish I could have retirement money and just start doing something new, because I love creating stuff, but in our society, creation is attached to money and that’s always bad for creativity.

you could do the pewdiepie method and just move to the US. You would get pushed to all of them and your revenue would drastically improve, while you also still retain your original audience. 🤷♂️ Judy be glad you're not in Turkey
its important to recognize that as sad as it is that all these people are quitting, the internet is an ever-evolving organism and there will always be new creators to change the game.
I really appreciate the creators who mention stampy in their videos about other UA-camrs retiring. It’s nice to know that so many people had similar wholesome experiences with his content like I did.
I feel bad for all them good UA-camrs out there who are quitting UA-cam like Stampy and MattPat and other famous people who made a great impact on UA-cam and hopefully they do something to keep themselves happy and I hope that whatever they are going through that they can overcome their challenges and stuff.
I think it will happen fairly soon. I saw some of his recent videos and it seems to me like he doesn't want to play (record) video games anymore. I wouldn't want him to leave, but at the same time, I'm not really even enjoying the way he plays video games nowadays. It's like he just wants to get it over with, like it's his obligation. I always preferred the videos he made just because he wanted to, anyway. Like the 100k steps video.
@@mrflyingace Though to be fair, I think he's going closer to the PewDiePie route where he'll slow the production rate down and even change the category of videos, but he'll never definitively state that the channel's going anywhere because... It won't. Especially with the previous Unnus Annus, I think he's demonstrated that he can still be 'around' and fulfill his content creation goals without having to shut down his channel (not like he has anyone else to host his channel for him) just because his primary thing won't be gaming.
Based on his comments in his podcast, it seems he is really diving deep into the movie making/directors sphere. Personally, I don’t think he will retire per se from YT but I think after this current movie is released he will slow down on vids on YT and probably lean heavier into his podcast. Again just an opinion of my own and nothing more, just opinionated.
I don't want any of these people to leave, but I understand they are human. I guess it leaves room for the little guys like me to inch our way up that nigh endless ladder to success. I have to admit, not a lot of these people in your video inspired me to make videos - but even those I know of that inspired me, have left or got caught up in controversy.
I think golden era of UA-cam is coming to a close. People made HUGE amounts of money, and now the ROI isn't there anymore. Almost every channel I follow across a wide variety of topics is performing measurably subpar to how they used to. Short form content is soaking up all the attention, but the monetization is pennies on the dollar in comparison. So now the options are either put in a ton of work for medium format content and make half of what you used to, or put all your effort into short form and make a quarter of what you used to. The people who were smart leveraged their fame into other ventures while simultaneously managing their money smartly.
I believe people might be overlooking the workload that comes with being a UA-camr. It's a lifestyle that demands constant improvement in content, the creation of fresh and engaging ideas, and the ongoing challenge of ensuring the UA-cam algorithm continues to showcase your videos. While it's a dream job, it's not all sunshine and rainbows and I understand why many of them want something different in life. 2023 has been a year where around 10 UA-camrs I've followed either since day one or for a significantly long time decided to step back. I genuinely hope all of them are living their best lives.
i think the thing that makes us sadder is the level of engagement we have with you guys we joke about the parasocial relationships viewers have with streamers but on a level we do feel close to youtubers you guys were and are our icons, the mr rogers or johnny ball or dave benson phillips. we have seen youtubers go through highs and lows dark times and light and hoped that our comments made you smile or brought a little comfort. the saddest thing is not that the shows are ending its that we dont see our "friend" anymore. matt talked about the level of popularity going down but thats just adult friendships the more people you know and the more things you do the less time we have for each other. but that doesnt mean we dont think of you fondly. heck in 50 years from now when you are in your rocking chair outside of your bakery you will probably still have fans coming up to you shaking your hand and thanking you for the good times. its the saddest thing about celebrity is that while billions of people know you, you likely know less than 100 of us. but that doesnt mean we care any less because you guys are still awesomeness and its a privilege to be here during this time
I think Felix/Pewdiepie did it the best. He has truly retired and is living an amazing life. He vlogs when he wants and posts videos for sponsors when he wants. Its kinda the best. Watching your favorite UA-camr retire when they want to is really great for the community, you get some of their best content.
I think I know why all the legends are leaving, now. I wouldn't call it quitting, I'd call it putting down the torch. Most of the first UA-cam generations (myself included) grew up on them, they were like second parents to us. But now, as time goes on, we're not kids anymore. They inspired us to become something like themselves, if not better, and there are many out there who now, because of them, aspire to become content creators just like them. Their job to nurse us, to entertain us, and to inspire us is done. Maybe their channel ends, but the charm and the passion doesn't. It simply is passed on to other people. I myself also aspire to be like the greats, but I'm honestly very aware that there is a very slim chance of that coming true, but hey, if it does, I'll say hi from the big world for you.
over the past 2 years, I've seen over 100 youtubers, both big and small, quit. some of them have good reasons, others have terrible or no reasons. either way, its quite sad.

Smosh made me so happy reuniting w Anthony. He brought their main channel back to life, cuz it was struggling for a while
@@coopergaming4779 deleting the channel was a form of artistic expression that extends beyond the surface level content they produced.

Quitting while still being highly sought after regarding content is a strong sign of confidence and it shows they're not feeling chained down to the internet, or a audience any longer.

You better use the time you are wasting on such stupid shit to come up with an actual improvement or an intelligent way to cut costs in a scene without any loss in quality. you have to make them appreciate your skills. if you make them appreciate how you get them coffee, that's the best way to get stuck forever in getting people coffee.

skip that shit. make your company some money. no one will ever ask you making coffee because everyone will know it's a waste of money. every minute you waste making coffee the company has to lose money. that's how you get promoted to a better position. no one goes from water boy to quarterback. different skill sets. if you ever get asked to bring the coffee, you are the least useful person in the room and should change that if you ever want to make a career, not doubling down on it. but you do you. just remember in 50 years that I told you why you are still making coffee.

"and then you end up on the obituary page of SunnyV2" yup tht is the greater threat than copyright strikes 💀
Back then I thought it would never end, now I've lived long enough to see it come to an end, and I'm sad, really sad to see them quit
But that’s just a theory…
A GAME THEORY
I think overall it's better for the OG UA-camrs to be able to make that choice either way, especially if the alternative is getting hit by the cancel culture bus or whatever, which would be unfortunate but it feels like it happens a lot recently.
A lot of these early UA-camrs are also in their 30s now or have families, which I think is a point where a lot of people find themselves thinking more about what they want to do with their lives. You can take all the experiences you've had in your 20s and early 30s and start something fresh.

Just what happens as an industry grows. People age out of it, or the industry changes so much that it's not what creators used to love.

@@thelelanatorlol3978 The day mark retires from YT is the day no one is left to speak out for all creators. That I think will be the death of UA-cam.
cory has, he uploads every 2 years
You can burnout while doing something you love , sometimes you just need a vacation , a little quiet time
I’m an UA-camr in Brazil with 2.6M subs and 900M views (non short).
They are not retiring.. they are moving elsewhere.😢. Don't be bitter
@@rachymn7883he has a point
No one asked, brother. This isn’t about you just because you have some subs on UA-cam
@@nightytime Look you...I am African born.. it's like if I ignored the wests problems like depression or our current generations' bleakness and fatigue political structure etc and say " Well we have a dictator so you guys are spoiled. What slow WiFi 😲..our WiFi is much slower " that's you being bitter.. So Brazilian guy. Your government has simply made things sucky it does not mean we should diminish other peoples lives.
you could do the pewdiepie method and just move to the US. You would get pushed to all of them and your revenue would drastically improve, while you also still retain your original audience. 🤷♂️ Judy be glad you're not in Turkey
ludwig had better make a bakery now.
Me and everybody else’s childhood is going away this year
its important to recognize that as sad as it is that all these people are quitting, the internet is an ever-evolving organism and there will always be new creators to change the game.
exactly. mr beast is such a good example of this imo.
matpat, moo, stampy. its sad that they're semi-retiring but at the same time, it's whats best for them
I really appreciate the creators who mention stampy in their videos about other UA-camrs retiring. It’s nice to know that so many people had similar wholesome experiences with his content like I did.
Lore will never be gone
Not the obituary page of SunnyV2 😭😭
I feel bad for all them good UA-camrs out there who are quitting UA-cam like Stampy and MattPat and other famous people who made a great impact on UA-cam and hopefully they do something to keep themselves happy and I hope that whatever they are going through that they can overcome their challenges and stuff.
we can only hope that markiplier doesn't quit any time soon :(
Bruh he's directing films, he's only getting started tbh
Matpat retiring reminded me of a Doctor's speech before regeneration
I think golden era of UA-cam is coming to a close. People made HUGE amounts of money, and now the ROI isn't there anymore. Almost every channel I follow across a wide variety of topics is performing measurably subpar to how they used to. Short form content is soaking up all the attention, but the monetization is pennies on the dollar in comparison. So now the options are either put in a ton of work for medium format content and make half of what you used to, or put all your effort into short form and make a quarter of what you used to.
The people who were smart leveraged their fame into other ventures while simultaneously managing their money smartly.
6:30 open a restaurant called Mogul Meal or a bakery called Loafwig lmao
One day we'll all be reminiscing, watching how ludwig bakes some mogul muffins.
Nah he will go back to the koopalings and spend his life there with them
I believe people might be overlooking the workload that comes with being a UA-camr.
This video was directly below matpat's announcement video. I thought there was a bug because it has the same thumbnail LOL
i think the thing that makes us sadder is the level of engagement we have with you guys we joke about the parasocial relationships viewers have with streamers but on a level we do feel close to youtubers you guys were and are our icons, the mr rogers or johnny ball or dave benson phillips. we have seen youtubers go through highs and lows dark times and light and hoped that our comments made you smile or brought a little comfort. the saddest thing is not that the shows are ending its that we dont see our "friend" anymore.
matt talked about the level of popularity going down but thats just adult friendships the more people you know and the more things you do the less time we have for each other. but that doesnt mean we dont think of you fondly. heck in 50 years from now when you are in your rocking chair outside of your bakery you will probably still have fans coming up to you shaking your hand and thanking you for the good times.
its the saddest thing about celebrity is that while billions of people know you, you likely know less than 100 of us. but that doesnt mean we care any less because you guys are still awesomeness and its a privilege to be here during this time
Rip matpat, wishing all the best for this new era of Game Theory
@cowdudeYFGAfan 🧢
He’s not dead
5:42 funny face in the microphone-thingy reflection lol
Miss the old guard. Hope the new streamers and content creators will fill the shoes :)
“I really wanna open a Bakery”….alright Yuki Tsunoda
Its either quitting or getting cancelled these days
I wasnt a fan of Mat Pat but he seemed like a cool guy. Wishing the best for him and his family.
I think Felix/Pewdiepie did it the best. He has truly retired and is living an amazing life. He vlogs when he wants and posts videos for sponsors when he wants. Its kinda the best. Watching your favorite UA-camr retire when they want to is really great for the community, you get some of their best content.
Every single one of his vlogs has a 3 minute ad, he’s still getting that bag
Getting the bag probably motivates a little bit but its 90% for fun i think. Such a wholesome ending for pewdiepie.
@@Mathias_Cyrilhe has millions of dollars he doesn't need more money he's just doing it just for fun
@@Mathias_Cyrilhe’s most likely doing it to help the company atp a single sponsor doesn’t even dent what he has now
I think I know why all the legends are leaving, now. I myself also aspire to be like the greats, but I'm honestly very aware that there is a very slim chance of that coming true, but hey, if it does, I'll say hi from the big world for you.
that man has his tabs like a powerpoint. thats honestly impressive
over the past 2 years, I've seen over 100 youtubers, both big and small, quit. some of them have good reasons, others have terrible or no reasons. either way, its quite sad.
