@@starfox_wr-45e93 the smaller grill suits smaller leaner cars like the A3 and A4 better than the fatter ones although I think the D3 A8 pre facelift pre single frame grille is a really good looking car.
You say it’s not a rare car, well it actually is. It’s the first RS6, there were only 8081 made and only 30 were delivered to Australia, I have one of those and the the owner before me spent 6 grand on a full gearbox rebuild and it handles everything thrown it’s way.
By the looks of it this was a German RS6 C5 - meaning the original license plate with D (Deutschland) is still on there. It looks very mint, however owning / driving these on a daily basis can financially hack into your budget. Maintaince is mandatory and the costs can grow intense. Esp with the age they have now. A single sensor somewhere near the Turbo replacement? You can get the whole engine out. The DRC was a good concept but had serious flaws, it could simply leak and that's why it's bin replaced with aftermarket shocks. The tune looks relatively low at just 444HP but that was because the AT was'nt capable of doing anything higher. Any launch you do and esp. when fluids are still cold will put huge strain on the AT. So only launch when it's hot and put it in Sports mode since a 3rd cooling goes open. I owned a B5 RS4 for 3 years with over 500HP. They can be tuned massively - however the AT is after adjustment only good for approx 700HP. Ive done into this matter years ago because i wanted one. Frankly the country i'm in now (Portugal) raises a huge stupid tax for importing cars within the EU. They would basicly charge an additional 36k for having it road legal in Portugal. And the 2nd problem was finding an insurance that would go all risk with a car like this. Anything older then 7 years is pretty much impossible. Enjoy that thing! BTW: cosworth used to tune most Audi S/RS models - and did have certain proprietary stuff in those engines such as the heads, the way they where casted and such. The people behind cosworth are fantastic - they did provide me with so much support back in the days. If you open up the ECU, you likely going to see a little EPROM soldered straight on top of the existing EPROM - that's actually a hardware scrambler to make it more difficult to extract the exact tune Cosworth did to those engines. There's alot of stuff going on in there that interesting to know.
My little fantasy is to see someone swap a ZF 8HP in this car (and also the next C6 RS6) because that would make it so much better, more modern and probably quite a bit faster as well. People are swapping that gearbox everywhere, especially older BMW-s so it must be possible with these as well.
The 5V is superior. The FSI had carbon buildup, timing chain issues that can lead to catastrophic engine failure... also come on, 5 valves per cylinder, how cool is that?
Yes, but de-carboning it's not that bad, only once every 150k, no need to remove the engine. Upper timing tensioners are relatively easy to change, by the time the lower ones goes bad, it's pretty much the end of the car... 350 - 400k.
The usual swap choice for this gen of RS6 or even the auto version of the S6 is the DQT gearbox. It's a diesel box and torque is no stranger to it. Also has the tallest possible 6th gear ratio at 0.560 and if you adapt the final drive from an auto box at 0.355 instead of the usual 4.111, it can cruise at 200km/h (120mph) at under 3000 rpm. Just need to use REALLY good transmission and diff oil. The sound of exploding diff at high speed is probably one of the worst sounds you can hear. Btw, this generation of RS6 and S6 is the one i feel most comfortable in. It just doesn't care if you are setting off to the polar circle. I love the lazy nature of the 40Valve V8... feels absolutely effortless. And yeah - while no latest gen torque vectoring LSDs, it sacrifices sportiness for refinement.
Lazy nature of the Audi V8 40v? This is revvy, sport high powered engine with 7500 rpm redline. Go and ride S6/S8 with singlemass clutch and manual transmission, and you will feel this mechanical engine. 5hp makes this car lazy, not engine.
Audi had a bad taste with America after the audi 5000 lies, why send a country super cars to people who would have their foot on drive as they put their car in gear lol, then blame the vehicle for 'automatic sudden acceleration'
This model is a riot to drive. You can't get a twin turbo V8 anymore in a chassis this small. That's part of the appeal of it, my manual swap on mine is underway
@@RoadsUntraveled Using the 6spd 01E from the B5 S4. It will be getting upgraded shift collars and carbon synchro's from JHM motorsports.
