    Thanks for watching, I hope you found this video helpful and gives you a better understanding of the things crew members love to receive as gifts onboard? Here is the link to the Crew Store in Cozumel if you missed it. ua-cam.com/video/LDA8YpcExuc/v-deo.html

    I had 5 packets of unopened mints and on my last cruise my cabin steward really appreciated them for her room mate who was a smoker

      Mints are always a great idea as a food item to leave. Everyone likes mints i think. especially on a cruise, where crew and guests have so much interaction with each other. I think the more general the candy (sweets, lollies) the better. most crew don't probably shop at the same store you do. so classic snacks work best.

    Hey Guy, been cruising for 20 years and found this video very informative. I always pre-pay Gratuities and tip those I've had the most direct contact with on the voyage in cash. I was laughing my ass off when I saw that staff wanted Doritos. Reason being, At the request of some of the bar staff, I actually got off the ship in Cozumel, just to get some Doritos for the crew members.

      Doritos are definitely a crew favourite, or Pringles. I am glad you liked the video and found it useful. i enjoy making these. and being here in Moscow, it's an easy set up from my kitchen. Did you go to the crew shop in Cozumel, or maybe the 7eleven? or oXXo This is the shop in Cozumel, if you didn't know about it already? ua-cam.com/video/LDA8YpcExuc/v-deo.html

    I was on a 10 day Noweigian Cruise. My Guy who cleaned my room was just amazing. Every port I went to I brought him back candy in a bag. I also bought good chocolates on the ship and gave him those as well. At the end or the Cruise I gave him an extra $50 dollars.

    At the end of my trip, I would give each one of my crews an envelope cash with a thank you card and a box of Godiva chocolate. They worked so hard and they are so kind. So much love and respect for them ❤❤❤.

    I also tip like this: If I have Cheers or unlimited bubbles, I will give the bartender a $1 bill. Not $1 tip on the receipt, but a $1 bill. this way, it is their tip, they are already going to get a portion of the cost of my Cheers, so this is extra just for them.

    • @ILikeCruiseShips
      @ILikeCruiseShips  2 роки тому +1

      Good idea, giving them the $1 cash tip directly. knowing them they get to keep their own tips. :)

      Right, because from tv we know the US sports teams so well. but to know what a specific crew member wants would be difficult really. unless perhaps you brought a generic one like NY yankees or Miami heat lets say.

    How much would you set aside for cabin stewards per day, per person in the cabin? I don’t want to seem cheap but nor do I want to be excessive and I have no clue.

    Great video but I’d disagree with the dorito comment, on the Spirit out of Sydney and an older couple always seemed to be giving out Tim Tams. Like the ad they never seem to run out of them, even cheated in the trivia and got the ship trophy cause they gave the CD another packet.

    • @ILikeCruiseShips
      @ILikeCruiseShips  2 роки тому +2

      For Australia, for sure tim tams are the no. 1 item. But in the US, no crew member has heard of them. Crew slowly learn the items they are local to where the ship sails from. I might have to make an Australian top 5 video maybe.

    I’ve been on 4 Princess cruises in the past 6 months, and have only seen one cabin steward - no assistant. Have they cut this out?

    • @ILikeCruiseShips
      @ILikeCruiseShips  2 роки тому

      On Carnival they till have 2, the second person or assistant you might not see as often, as they run around doing odd jobs, so not as noticeable as the main stateroom steward. Russell.

    What about international calling cards for the crew’s.

    • @ILikeCruiseShips
      @ILikeCruiseShips  2 роки тому +3

      There really a thing of the past these days. most if not all crew have a cell phone they use, with either a local sim card from the home port. Or even have a Mexican sim card for use in Cozumel. Especially if the ship goes there weekly, then once the ship gets to port you can use the local network. even if you don't get off the ship, the sim card gets signal. Most crew use messenger or WhatsApp to make calls back home, a calling card was definatly a thin back 10 years ago on ships, but with cell phones now, using internet calling and messaging its really the best and easiest way to do it.

      @@ILikeCruiseShips I ask this question because a crew member on Royal Caribbean’s cruise lines says crew members want international calling cards. Another UA-cam interview a crew member from Royal Caribbean’s cruise and this is what he said crew’s members ask for.

      Asa staff member i don't get any of the tips at all. Occasionally a guest might give me a couple of dollars as a tip for boxing up their liquor or for delivering it to their room. Buts very rare. As the shop staff are a separate company to the cruise line, we aren't in the tipping pool like the regular cruise crew are.

    Personally, I wouldn't feel right giving 'personal care' items since the scent might be disliked and also in case it caused any offence/offense. My preference to give folks - Cash, Pre-paid USA SIM cards (with data included), or Amazon gift cards.

    Don't know your relationship with the crew members whether you are a salary analysts or a columnist makes no difference seemingly you are promoting the welfare of the crew members which is an act of good gesture as a seafarer they all know their wage prior to working on the ship certainly there are wait staffs cabin stewards who offer outstanding /exceptional services that deserve extra rewards without a doubt CASH is KING CASH trump them all in the same breath there are employees who just do their minimum as they have already received their fixed monthly wage Frankly I have seen there are many cruise employees who just perform their duty with no extra effort they don't take pride in their work let alone offering exceptional service just like in any business there are workers who are willing to go an extra mile for their customers there are also workers who do not give a damn
