The only fisherman’s knife I’ve ever had was on a Trapper frame, but with a scaler/bottle opener in place of the spay blade. It was a Richards with dark red shell covers.
My yellow handled single blade is a Colonial from Prov. and my larger 2 blade is Imperial also from Prov. with an amazingly beautiful but I think must be artificial pearl handle I remember when these were in jars on the drugstore checkout counter. A buck +25 seems familiar.
I believe your new knife is nice looking and designed as a fisherman’s knife. That said; I been fishing for sixty years; and I know for a fact; I never saw a single soul that knew anything much about cleaning fish use a knife like that to clean a fish. If you ever used one to clean a fish you might figure out why real quick. There just terrible fish cleaning tools that look nice in a tackle box. That is best thing I can say about them. Most of them didn’t cost much and all of them were more show than go. I might be wrong but, know what I know.
I’m with you. These are really for gutting a fish and that’s about it. I suppose you can also scale the fish in a pinch. Lousy for filleting. Better used as a small game ( birds, little fury critters. )
Think you need to have a word with your production staff regarding the slideshow music! 🙁🐱 great addition to your collection tho!👍 Merry Christmas Tobias
Great video. Love the featured knife; also really liked the Camillus. I have that same model Colonial (guess they're a dime-a-dozen). Actually, I gave 50 cents for mine at a Yard Sale. I also have one of those hollow, metal-handled toothpick-style fish knives by Imperial --- another yard sale find. Those pop up quite a bit, too.
Those single bladed fish knives do look good. I don't fish so don't know if there is a good alternative purpose for the scaler?? Enjoyed seeing the others you have as well. It found a very good home.
I had a "fish knife" as a kid, hated it then but would like to replace it now, and found a Klaas that looks mostly like it, I don't like fish knives that look too far from a toothpick, mine was two blade yellow so I guess I will be sticking with it unless my mind is changed. I like the Case and a few others but I will never use it so there is no reason to spend too much. Mine had no lock, wish it did and reason I disliked it, but still used it. Don't know why I feel the need to replace things of old, especially If I have no intention of use.
Just putting it out there. I've not seen anyone gut, gill, and scale a fish since i was about six years old. I'm fifty nine years old now and i and anyone i know can fillet a fish faster and with less mess. So i like the tooth pick design but the fisher design is kind of with out merit.
I know folks who can filet a fish almost blindfolded faster than can with both eyes. Its all in feeling the knife as it slices through the fish. Some folks have an almost magical touch!
I’m no doubt envious of your collection sir!
Great piece Mr.Gibson........ I love Remington knives thanks bud and have a very Merry Christmas 🎁

Wish i had half your historical knowledge, Tobias.
Thank you for the kind words. I am humbled. however, I have to admit, I have just read a ton of books and have taken copious notes.
@@KnifeChatswithTobias that's how we learn, good Sir. That and from the wisdom of those around us.
Thanks, and Merry Christmas! (Kitty wants a fish from Santa!)
Real pretty handle on that knife :) Merry Christmas partner!!
When I saw the title, I read from the 1900's and I thought that's in great condition for being 120 years old. Yes, I need new glasses. 🤓😂

Nice catch (pun intended)!

Nice jigging...looks like bone intended to look like stag.
Looks like a KA-BAR made knife to me.
Is it pronounced come-mil-lus or cam-mil-lus? I hear it both ways all the time.
