DO NOT pull the trigger after you rack the slide to to check the chamber to make sure it's unloaded. The internal hammer is in the cocked position and out of the way of the slide when you go to reassemble your Ruger. If you pull the trigger before disassemble, the hammer is in the up or "fired" position and you won't get the slide to go all the way back on. You will have to manually, with your finger, push the hammer back into the cocked position to get it out of the way. I learned this the hard way. Disassembly.....rack the slide, engage the slide "lock" to inspect and insure the pistol is not loaded, release the slide lock....DO NOT PULL THE TRIGGER!!!!!!. As you see here, remove the pin, clean and lub, reinstall the slide..reinstall the pin. If the pin seems to fight back, tilt it down a bit, put a slight bit of pressure down on the end of the pin while pushing it in. Don't pull the trigger. He didn't of course but didn't mention this..leave the pistol cocked.

Thanks for the video. Just cleaned mine while watching. I’m an OTR truck driver and carry my .380, it gets abused. Developing rust on exterior. But cleaned it up with oil and metal brush. I love my little.380. I have a Glock 23, but it’s so big and blocky , can’t really conceal it.

My takedown pin was very difficult to remove. You mentioned that you don't have to pull the slide back but in other vids they say to pull back like a 1/4 inch but that seemed to work just fine for you. It didnt seem like pulling the slide back relieved tension on the spring as they claimed. It appears it wont hurt anything by not pushing the slide back..

Thank you, I'm used to field stripping my glocks and recently I've acquired a few smaller guns because everything I have is big full size but I'm just used to mainly glocks and this lil Smith and Wesson shield 40 I got but I recently acquired one of these superrrr tiny lil ruger lcp 380s just because why not? And bc it was on sale brand new at my favorite local gun store I buy all my guns from for the most part and I went browsing a few days ago and the owner John that hooks me up sold kt to me brand new for 180 plus tax and gave me 100 rounds of fmj plinkers and 2 boxes of my fav self defense Hornaday critical defense hallow points along with a extra new OEM magazine for it all for free (ammo and mag) whixh is all basically why I bought suck a tiny gun that barelyyy fits my big ol paws lol... but I like to know my guns before I go shoot them and I always field strip them before I WILL go shoot them and wasn't sure as how to field strip it. This was the firdt video that popped up on how to do so and it was quick and straight to the point and very helpful... I saw a little "upgrade on Amazon for it that replaced the pin you have to pry out its got a slot for a flat head screw driver you just turn counter clockwise and it comes out just a tiny bit once you do so you don't have to put a flathead screw driver up against it and risk ruinin ur slide and scratching it up, it was only 15.99 so I think ima order it now but thanks for this video because I was kind of at a loss as I am used to what I'm used tk which is glocks but thanks for this helpful video that was short sweet simple and straight to the point.. now I can finally run it tomorrow at my range at my house... thank you for taking the time to make this video for guys like me thay don't believe in reading manuals lol.... and is too caught up in their ways on how disassemble other brands of firearms as tbats all they primarily know and own! Thank you

Use a trim bar to remove the pin. They are made of plastic. Typically it’s a tool used to disassemble car dashboard stuff. Maybe remove a radio or something you don’t want to damage. Trim tools are ridged but still they don’t screw up the finish.

Had to pull the trigger to put it down to slide it over, then pull back after I got it past a point, otherwise if I forced it it still made the firing hammer go down.
