Love to see this in the biomechanics lab y’all got and compare kinematic between different ball delivery modes, tee 😑, front toss, Overhand front toss, Shortbox, machine, Trajekt, live pitcher and what ever else you can think of. Data is king and you’ve got it.
And for the first overall pick of the 2025 MLB draft, the Chicago White Sox have selected traject out of driveline baseball
If the outlet isn’t move then the release point isn’t moving like IRL. But then the machine telegraphs the movement change. But you can’t beat recreating pitches or having hit change pitch types or location without the hitter knowing compared to other non-live training situations.
From what I understand IRL every pitch has a different release point - Bernstein’s rep without rep. That might be negligible within pitch type but not between pitch type IMO based upon what I’ve seen from generated pitcher reports. So if the machine isn’t changing the release horizontal and vertical for different pitch types it’s not truly realistic. But like you mentioned the big plus is recreating with a higher degree of fidelity than before a wide array of pitch types and pitch location without the hitter knowing compared to other non-live training situations.
The only positive I see from the projection is that it will help with timing but from a gaze behavior standpoint hope that it does not have a negative impact. Additionally, batters will often “park” their eyes on the location where the ball comes out of the machine (Croft et al., 2010) suggesting a major difference in the gaze behavior exhibited when facing a live opponent. Yet it is not known to what extent this affects skill acquisition of baseball batters, if at all. Does the loss of pre-pitch information significantly inhibit a batter’s ability to detect invariant information for batting when they go back to facing an actual pitcher? Could this lead to batters becoming attuned to non-specifying information such as an over reliance on ball flight information? - ftepod.com/blog/what-do-expert-batters-use-to-coordinate-and-control-their-movements
Could having a projected live pitcher throwing to a fixed outlet led to a hitter developing aberrant gaze behavior strategy to best fit the machine?
This is cool
Driveline Baseball, nice content bro
Hey thanks!
how would pitch sequencing work with trajekt?
The trainer who is at the computer can change the pitch and location after each throw if they choose to, making it an awesome tool for training swing decisions!
Rest in peace pitchers
"Access?" Driveline doesn't own the equipment?
baseball is pay to win
This equipment is great, since it gives you a live motion pitcher thru video throwing a pitch to a location or actual pitch that can be adjusted without the hitters knowing what's coming for them. As close as it can get to a real game situation. What's the cost to train with this machine at DL
