I really like the new accessibility settings, especially the one that says what color is being selected. Since I’m a colorblind artist, the biggest problem was I had to always use an app on my other device (iphone) to tell me what color was what, so this was very helpful!
hey, btw, one update I didn’t cover in this video that’s also relevant for colorblind artists: onion skinning in animation is now colorblind friendly. originally I think you could choose the color of the onion skins, but when I sat down to record this video, the interface had changed and I wasn’t able to figure it out... but I believe it’s changed somehow to be more colorblind friendly nonetheless.
I’d really like to see how to use that 3d stuff in a production environment for artists that don’t work in gaming. Take the can, for example. When you create the painting on the can, is it actually useful to do a high resolution printing for the actual product? Will the artwork be the correct dimensions for an actual 12oz aluminum can? Can you create the canvas at any resolution and will the artwork still be the correct “actual” size?
Such a great point Tim! I don't actually have official answers, so take anything I have to say with a grain of salt. But I think all of that depends on the actual imported 3D model itself. You can't create a 3D canvas in Procreate, just import a 3D model made in another software. I heard in a talk with the Procreate team that lots of the textures used for those stock models where done in 4K (like the scuffs on the wheels of the roller skate). So in theory, someone could create a model that would reflect real-world production sizes. And if they could make the 2D wrap version so that it reflected how it would print in real-world... well that would be super cool and I bet really helpful in a production setting! If you wanted real answers to these questions, you could probably take it to the Procreate forums and see if the team could give you an official response (procreate.art/discussions).
@@BrookeGlaser Thanks for the reply. I would hope Procreate would have those things figured out. I remember when Adobe added 3D features to Photoshop. I opened them once when they were first added (however many years ago), imported something, played around with it for an hour, and never used that feature again for anything. But, I do not work in the gaming industry. It doesn't seem like one of those features that everyone was clamoring for, like warping text or something. It feels more "gimmicky." I hope it's not.
I now don’t have to wait for my hand to stop shaking at times when it does this is awesome! Thanks so much for going through this with us, I made so many changes in procreate thanks to this video
This is such a good video to watch for the new update. It literally goes over all of the new features and explains them at depth! I appreciate the time you took to make a video like this!
Thank you, Brooke! I updated the app and have noticed a few of these changes over the past few days, but really haven’t played with them yet. Now you’ve stoked my excitement to do some intentional experimenting this weekend!
The extra stability settings are so nice 😭 I usually have a slight tremor in my hands which procreate could correct but on days when I’m particularly anxious or tired from other health issues I get extra shaky and it didn’t help as much. It’s really frustrating because drawing and lettering is something I do to calm down or relax and it’s hard to feel better when when I can’t control my own hands. Anyway, today is one of those extra shaky days and after watching this I’ve been playing around in procreate and I’m just so happy to have these new features. Thank you for explaining them so well.
I've watched several videos on the update, and none of them fully explained each new feature in a way that made sense to me but yours does! Thank you so much for this helpful video
Just came across this video. You explain things so crisp and clear, like you have a real gift of teaching. Thank you very much for making this video. New sub.
More great information here! I seemed to have discovered some of the updates but your video showed a more in depth use of day, the recent feature in brushes. I like that feature but leaned here that you can keep your favorite on top AND swipe to see what group a brush is in. So helpful. Thank you so much.
Wow thank you sooo much for making this! I don’t usually look into new features because I find it overwhelming. I’m so glad I watched this. There are so many useful things they added.

Hello! I am loving all your Procreate tutorials and tips. May I ask if you do merge/flatten all the layers of the illustration before you save and export? Thank you in advance! Bea
No, I always keep all the layers! If you want a flattened version, just export a jpg. But definitely want to keep all my layers in can I want to any edits to the art later.
Me too! The beauty of accessible design is that the results are helpful for many more people than the design is originally intended for. Like sidewalks that slope towards the street: designed for wheelchairs, those slopes end up helping parents using strollers, delivery drivers unloaded heavy dollies, and so on. And it's totally the same with these Procreate features. Some of the things weren't designed for folks like me in mind, but are very, very helpful for me anyway. (Also, hope you enjoy my Skillshare classes! A lot of love and hard work go into them, so I hope they're helpful!)
Hi Brooke! i was wondering if you can draw your own 3d models or would you have to make them in blender and move them over? Thank you for this video as someone who’s neurodivergent this new update really was a lot to understand! this really helped!!
Yes, you'll need to make it in a software like Blender and bring the model over. Procreate only does painting, not modeling. If you bring a model in, it'll need to be a UV map attached. You can learn more about importing models into Procreate in their handbook here: procreate.art/handbook/procreate/3d-painting/basics/ (Also, my partner Dan is neurodivergent and he edited this video! Glad it was helpful for you. :) )
Thank you for the comprehensive explanations. Just wondering about the AR. I can’t seem to find how to allow access to my camera. Can you help out pls?
If your iPad doesn't prompt you to give permission when you first open the AR, go to your iOS settings (that gear icon), use the search bar at the top to search 'Procreate' and toggle on the Camera setting. Hope that solves it for you!
Thank you! I spend a TON of time working on my Skillshare classes (and this UA-cam video) to make sure they're clear and easy to understand (while also hopefully feeling fun).
What updates so necessary today that everyone wants to create more projects for the MetaVerso, Excellent explanation, I wonder what version of iPad Pro you use
I used the new m1 iPad Pro, but the new updates are compatible with most iPads! You can get the official list of iPads that work with the new version of Procreate at procreate.art/faq
Hi, Brook! The clipping mask, I can’t get it to work. I am missing a step, I think. Secondly, when I use the the selection tool and if I changed my mind, I couldn’t use the go back button to undo. Instead, I had close the app completely and remove it from the background. That’s the only way I can restart the selection tool. You are really good with procreate, this tutorial is really very helpful. Thank you so much.
Hi Nanette, if you tap on the selection tool, it'll exit the tool. As for clipping masks, you may find my Skillshare class "Intro to Procreate" class helpful (cuz it's far to difficult to explain over text, video is much easier to understand). I have a really unsteady hand, it's not super noticable at first, but can really be seen when I write. So these changes are very appreciated. I lack a lot of confidence in myself so I'm constantly going over lines to the point where everything is so stiff and ugly and I lose all the character from the rough sketch.
When you update procreate, do you lose any brushes, drawings, or other settings and files? This may be a silly question but they don’t have accounts to save on yet which I think would be awesome, so I would like to know. Also does this new version offer more brushes?
so far my none of my brushes or files were lost ( even if i did backup my files in google drive ) but as far as ive gone through it, there doesnt seem to be any new brushes ( i could be wrong though )
Thank you for sharing your expertise! You’re a fabulous teacher! I don’t know if it’s because the changes in procreate coincide with huge changes in the weight watchers app (my two faves) but this morning I have a bah humbug attitude. It’s been building ever since I heard about the 3-D changes to Procreate. I would like someone to make a “how you can use these 3-D things“ video. Would also prefer that you start out with everything else new and then take the last 20 minutes of a half hour video to talk about 3-D as I’m just not wanting to watch it right now. Probably one day They I’ll be more interesting to me, but not me not today. In any case it was an excellent video and I appreciate your help with this, just wanted to throw in my thoughts. Thank you again!
I hear you, Barbara! Just cuz there's new 3D features, doesn't mean you have to use them. There's also animation features in Procreate, doesn't mean you gotta switch your gears and start doing animation instead of illustration! :) There's nothing wrong with sticking to the stuff you love. Anyway, for future reference there are timestamps in the description of the video, so you can skip ahead and not watch the 3D stuff. You just click on the timestamp after 'Procreate AR' and there'll be no more 3D info, just the rest of the new features.
3D canvases take any finger touches and a gesture to move around the canvas. If you want to paint with your finger, go to the wrench icon > Prefs > Gesture Controls > and toggle on "Enable 3D painting with finger". You'll need to hold the modify button to move the model if that's turned on.
i have an unrelated question that you might be able to answer since you know so much about procreate - when i merge two layers, when the top one has a blending mode applied, that effect goes away. is there any way to merge the layers (not just group them) that keeps it looking the same as with the blending mode applied? i know i can export the image and bring it back in, but that's not really what i want to do if possible
So the best I’ve been able to understand about this, is that blend modes affects anything visible underneath - including your background layers. To keep the effects, you need the color for the background layers to also merge, but likely only in the space where you’ve drawn on the blending mode layers. And you can’t merge the background layer either. So what’s worked for me in the past is to select everything on my blend layer, create a new layer and fill it with background color, put it underneath the layers you want to merge and merge it with the layers you want to merge.
my hands are super wobbly sometimes because of my dyspraxia, these global stabilisation settings are going to be a godsend. Thank you so much for sharing them, I had no idea they were in the update!
Thank you so much for this! I am having a hard time with the color palettes update. Do you know how to stop it from changing your default palette if you choose one color from a different palette?
Ugh, no I don't. That's actually really annoying, I didnt notice that before. Honestly, I would share your thoughts with the Procreate team on this forum here: folio.procreate.art/discussions/4/10/49834 The more people who voice their opinion on this, the more likely Procreate is to change it back to the old way.
Thank you! That's what I strive to be with my tutorials and classes, detailed and informative but in a friendly way that doesn't feel overwhelming. So happy to hear it was helpful!
Hey I know you probably won’t see this but I am new to procreate and you have really help me out but when I tap on the can and it flashes blue it still move and I can paint on it. If you could reply and tell me why that would be great thank you (but it’s ok if you don’t know why.)

Great tutorial. Thanks! I hope you don't mind a question that probably sounds very rudimentary, but what do you do with the 3D drawings? I found your information and technique fascinating but I'm not educated enough to understand how you would incorporate them into an art business. Anyway, the whole thing was very enlightening. Thank you
Thanks Chris! A lot of surface designers like to mock-up their art on models to show how the art would actually look like on different products. Many people do this in Photoshop, and now we have a new way of doing that with Procreate. And of course 3D is great for anyone who works in gaming or animation. :)
You may have noticed in some videos how the timeline (that red/gray bar that shows the video's progress) is segmented. You can add Chapters into the video, which basically acts as timestamps within the video's timeline. I'm not sure how since I don't really make UA-cam videos, but it is an option that may be faster than putting each individual timestamp in the description
Thanks! Adding timestamps in the description is actually how you create those chapters. :) But you have to add a timestamp for the very, very beginning at 0:00 (which I hadn't). Just updated that and now there's chapters!
Thank yo so very much its really helpful. And so many wonderful features in there. But i have to say, procreate needs Pen Tool. I don’t know maybe its can be only for selection because Freehand selection make it so rough and you have to edit or remake the outlines. This is waste of time.
I have a question. I have procreate updated and everything and I went on and tapped what's new. But I accidently tapped through the part that had the download models thing and now idk how to get the 3d models
Hi! I'm a new procreate user and I'm pretty sure that you only need to pay for the app. I haven't come across extra in-app purchases and there's definitely enough to work with!
im ALWAYS making little marks on my pieces that I dont notice until its too late because im zooming in and out and the app recognizes my finger as a stroke. That accessibility option is going to be ESSSSEEENNTIALLLL for me. SO EXCITING!
theyve had since the beginning the setting that the ipad will only recognise the pen and not fingers for drawing, it's been LIFE CHANGING since i found it
I am struggling. When I load a 3D model it loads ok and can be spun around in 3D space, super cool, however when I click on area it flashes. Good so far, i choose my brush and colour but the second I click on that material selected area the Procreate thinks I want to move 3D space, any help would be great, thanks.
I think mine is bugged. Theres like an inch apart from where my pencil is pointing on the screen when painting and i cant find any settings that fix this 😢
oh how annoying! have you tried restarting your iPad? hopefully it’s a simple fix like that, but otherwise you should absolutely report it on the procreate.Art/discussions forum. that is absolutely a bug that Procreate will want to address right away!

i have an unrelated question that you might be able to answer since you know so much about procreate - when i merge two layers, when the top one has a blending mode applied, that effect goes away. is there any way to merge the layers (not just group them) that keeps it looking the same as with the blending mode applied?
i know i can export the image and bring it back in, but that's not really what i want to do if possible
Thanks so much Brooke. You’re awesome as usual. Love your Skillshare courses, too.
Awww, thank you so much! So happy to hear you enjoy my Skillshare classes!
Very good examples and instructions, very specific and helpful. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
This video really helped me with the new update, Thank you! :)
Glad it helped!
my hands are super wobbly sometimes because of my dyspraxia, these global stabilisation settings are going to be a godsend. Thank you so much for sharing them, I had no idea they were in the update!
So pleased Procreate added these amazing new features!
Wow thank you so much for this video you're great at explaining ❤️❤️
Glad it was helpful! I'm such a fan of Procreate, I'm kinda obsessed. Just love sharing what an amazing tool for art creation it is!
Thank you so much for this! I am having a hard time with the color palettes update. Do you know how to stop it from changing your default palette if you choose one color from a different palette?
Ugh, no I don't. That's actually really annoying, I didnt notice that before. Honestly, I would share your thoughts with the Procreate team on this forum here: folio.procreate.art/discussions/4/10/49834
The more people who voice their opinion on this, the more likely Procreate is to change it back to the old way.
Thank you so much this was so helpful omg ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm so glad!
amazing video
Thank you!
Thank you! This was so detailed and informative!
Thank you! That's what I strive to be with my tutorials and classes, detailed and informative but in a friendly way that doesn't feel overwhelming. So happy to hear it was helpful!
Love your video! It is clear
I'm so glad, thank you!
Hey I know you probably won’t see this but I am new to procreate and you have really help me out but when I tap on the can and it flashes blue it still move and I can paint on it. If you could reply and tell me why that would be great thank you (but it’s ok if you don’t know why.)
3D canvases take any finger touches and a gesture to move around the canvas. If you want to paint with your finger, go to the wrench icon > Prefs > Gesture Controls > and toggle on "Enable 3D painting with finger". You'll need to hold the modify button to move the model if that's turned on.
Much better demonstrated and explained than others. Thank you!
Thanks Michael, I'm glad it was helpful!
I’m watching this while procreate downloads the 3D models 😃
I don’t use an apple pencil, so for some reason I cant draw on the 3d models without switching to “show 2D texture” under 3D.
Me too

@@BrookeGlaser Thank you!
Sooo cool! Can't wait to try it! 😍
The new update is so much fun!
Oh, thank you very much for this video. I haven't done a program update yet )
So much goodness is awaiting you! :)
@@BrookeGlaser Good to know. Thanks for the prompt reply :)
Wow...So helpful! Thank you 💖
Yay, glad it was helpful for you!

thnak you sooo much for this video it's very helpful :D
Yay, glad it was helpful!
If you missed the download button in the initial splash screen, you can download them via the steps shown at 1:11 of the video. Hope that helps!
Hello, I want to purchase Procreate but I have a question. If I purchase it, do I need to pay more in-app purchases to get additional features?
Hi! I'm a new procreate user and I'm pretty sure that you only need to pay for the app. I haven't come across extra in-app purchases and there's definitely enough to work with!
@@notsogenericstud4660 alright! Thank you for replying 🤗🤗
Very helpful thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
how much procreate cost? is it monthly or yearly?
Thank you for sharing 🤗
🎉🎨💕 my pleasure! Procreate really knocked it it off the park with this update
Thank you very much
Glad it was helpful!
im ALWAYS making little marks on my pieces that I dont notice until its too late because im zooming in and out and the app recognizes my finger as a stroke. That accessibility option is going to be ESSSSEEENNTIALLLL for me. SO EXCITING!
theyve had since the beginning the setting that the ipad will only recognise the pen and not fingers for drawing, it's been LIFE CHANGING since i found it
thank you 🥰
Glad it was helpful!
I am struggling. When I load a 3D model it loads ok and can be spun around in 3D space, super cool, however when I click on area it flashes. Good so far, i choose my brush and colour but the second I click on that material selected area the Procreate thinks I want to move 3D space, any help would be great, thanks.
Thank you so much!
Happy it was helpful!
@@BrookeGlaser restarting didnt work. I reported it on their site now thanks 🥰
Totally!
