    Very clever indeed. I would like to see the drive and prop system.

    • @Prototheria
      @Prototheria 4 роки тому +23

      I'm willing to bet it's just a lower unit from an outboard bolted through the bottom of the hull with the cavitation plate flush with the bottom of the hull. There's probably a pulley on a cut down input shaft, and the shifter he had there is directly above the drive and connected to the shift rod for the gear change. This could be scaled up with something like a v-twin vertical engine (Honda, Predator, Kawi, Kohler, ect) and a bigger lower unit from an outboard with a similar HP rating to whatever engine you're using.

    I grew up in South Louisiana and these kinds of boats were everywhere. Mostly they were wooden versions of a standard johnboat or aluminum flatboat and they were called Putt Putts. I did see a pirogue once set up that way which is similar to a canoe, but mostly flatboats. They were very common and this was in the late 60s and throughout the 70s. I've since moved. They were cool back then and I love seeing one again.

    What a great build! Great fun. My Dad had a 18 ft. Old Town sponson canoe. He had a sailing rig for it, and also a side outboard motor bracket witch held a 5 hp Elgin outboard. Didn't have too much use for the paddles! LOL

    Idk...I mean it’s pretty cool and all but how about choppier water stability? It appeared to be a bit more stable with the dog on board but dog could fall off or move anytime. I wonder if mounting the engine on the opposite side of the cross bar would balance to perform well...

    In my time I converted a 18' mini cruiser from outboard to 302 cu.in. Mercruiser Sterndrive and a 16' Buehler Turbo Craft to prop drive, guess I did both because everyone said it couldn't be done. L0L both turned out good.

    Very close to the design the Realfoot lake builders use as duck boats. Except thier prop exits at the very stern above the bottom. Water flows to prop on sides because of the tapered hull. Nice build. Helluva lot better than paddling.

    Man that is totally awesome. You need to patten it before someone else do. You are very much of an investor and very mechanical. I would like you to do other stuff. You might could even become rich. Great work.
