I speak Bravo... Translation: People are wise to the leg lock game. If you don't know how to pass a guard these days your bjj is back to being garbage where as a few years ago you would be able to surprise someone who wasn't well versed in them.
fundamentals, or as they call them: Gordon Ryan
It looks to me that wrestling fused with Jujutsu is the future of the submission grappling art.
JuJutsu as in like Japanese JuJutsu?
I hope so
@@Andy_Classic As a term "Jujutsu" or "Jiu Jitsu" in essence is the same. One is the English and the other the Portuguese accent of 柔術. In the specific case I meant BJJ. The inclusion of traditional Japanese Jujutsu would increase severe injuries since there are a plethora of really dangerous waza. It would turn submission grappling to its origins, for increased levels of violence and military use.
Same reason why MMA beats just those two combined. If you can do something the other guy can't, at all, you win.
Funny cause that’s how it all started
He’s so right, my focus is maintaining the mount, passing the guard and taking the back.
The new guys coming up are very good at takedowns and controlling mount
In other words... wrestling. And that's a good thing, because that strategy is what works best in self defense/street situations. Coming full circle to a dominating, top heavy style of jiu jitsu, as opposed to pulling guard and all that berimbolo goofiness.
@@cdcaleo wouldn’t really put mounting in a wrestling category
@@Blacktorch27 Chest to chest pinning, or some close variation of that, is the primary goal of most wrestling styles, with the exception of throwing oriented styles like Sumo and Ssireum.
@@cdcaleo right but once you get the pin established the match ends. That’s less than half the battle of a pin in jiu jitsu. Once you get there you have to maintain control and then get the sub.
I’m not knocking wrestling, it’s an extremely useful and translatable base to jiu jitsu. I just don’t think it applies to mount very well. Side pins way more so than mount and back mount.
You mean the Judokas?
I need to go to this leg lock college...
Fundamentals will always prevail
Adding "pre-guard pass back taking" to your top game is the key to getting good at what we refer to as "No-Gi passing". It makes your top game vs the guard 3-dimensional. Leg locking, guard passing, and back taking.
wrestling too
Don’t forget getting that ankle pick yo!
Eddie is gonna re tear his knee sitting like this lol
Bro invented the rubber guard he sits in that every time he rolls 😆
Not at all it's a yoga pose and it is comfortable for many people who are flexible - its great for releasing/opening the hips
Rickson Gracie said this exact thing would happen years ago.
He saw it happen in mma with jiu jitsu stuffing take downs etc. everything evolves in a similar pattern.
Then Gordon Ryan submits half the ADCC heavyweight bracket with heel hooks
Those were a few mints in the car before dinner
I'm a 2nd degree BB in BJJ. Training for over 25 years. All you ever need in a fight is: takedown - mount - take the back and choke.
Id agree for BJJ, but for a "fight" (mma), guys seem to be too good at scooting to the fence and standing back up. Although take away the fence and you'd probably be right
@@Bobby-uo2jw : yea I'm talking about regular street fights. High percentage chance that the other person is not trained in MMA. More technique is better.
No wonder all BJJ guys are gay, mount, take the back, and choke. Makes total sense now.
@@sammypresents yea for street fight you're 100% percent right
@@raffpants618 he’s obviously never been in a fight. I’m a wrestler and a boxer I’ll take my two backgrounds Virsa BJJ guy any day good luck trying to take me down as rain down punches after I sprawl on your head
A jack of all trades is a master of none but still better than a master of one.
If you only rely on one aspect of the game sooner or later someone will find a hole.
Sweeping passing mounting gnawing biting hacking burrrrrning!
The future is looking into it
"u went to leg lock college" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Wrestling is gonna be the next revolution
Hell yeah.
Basics work best. KISS Principle: Keep It Simple Stupid.
Bottom line, everyone is getting better. Better to become the best you can at the basics of offence / defence (including leg locks).
Takedown, pass, mount, take the back... Fighting 101
Keep It Simple Stupid or Keep It Stupid Simple?
@@Andy_Classic haha whatever works best
Thank God
Exactly what Rickson Gracie was saying years ago.
Truth.
Take it right back to fundamental basics, ju jit su takedown to advantageous position ie Mount or back.
There pretty high risk now a good leglock guy will counter you and take your back or smash to top position
*Nate Diaz beats Hamzat on the Scale, Strangles Tony, Rides off into Sunset*

Typo in the title…
Master Eddie Bravo is always on point when talking cutting edge Jiu Jitsu! The earth is not flat however! 🌎
Cubed?
Right Shane..we are absolutely 100% moving over 1,000,000 mph to nowhere right now 🤦🏻♂.. it's so provable LOL
I dont know what the earth being a triangle shape has to do with it moving a million miles per hour, but okay!
@@shanecolburn2469 triangle earth hell yeeaa
Thats why most Jiu Jitsu logos are 🔺️ something or other. Its that inside secret knowledge, lol!
Was this video just not colour corrected?
Takedown > Control Legs > Control Hips > Side Control > Knee on Belly > Mount > Control > Submit
Evolution Brazilian Jiu Jitsu 🦍
I would like to know his thoughts on Nate Diaz
Wise man
Positional set ups being forgotten , seen alot of submission attempts fail ,due to basic fundamentals being ignored
Did fall registration pass for Leg Lock College?
Surprised nobody has come up with lessgi style tournament, ie wearing gi pants like bravo and grips are only allowed from the waste down.
Edgie Brah
The future is the past… look into it.
look at judo, that is essentially what he said...
I want ppl to do ultra nogi standing game, concrete floor nogi
I think it's the Standing game, not Passing.
Love Eddie's podcast on Rockfin. It's too based for UA-cam.
What’s it called?
@@Shiggystardust it's called Look into it
@@decline1822 it’s called sharing is caring
@@decline1822 I thought this was a sarcastic answer. But then Google actually showed me. Thanks
@@Shiggystardust lol yeah it's seriously called that
The ascendance of leg locks has blinded many to how exposed they make you against strikes. Ryan Hall's latest MMA loss is an example. Of course they have their place in pure grappling but be careful of the context in which they're used.
Gary Tonon's loss as well
He lost because he threw a spinnng back kick and missed, then got blindsided by a punch as he completed the turn. Then he got GnPd from side control. Nothing to do with leg locks lmao
@@kevint4673 he kept trying Imanari rolls and got smashed. He knows what he did wrong, trust me on this.
There are countless leg lock finishes in MMA. They work, you just have to be careful
@@GreenDistantStar He broke his hand on his first punch he said on an interview. Anyways he does employee different strategies, but leg locks didn't lose him the fight like you said. Trust me on this.
So legs are to Jiu-Jitsu as Jiu-jitsu is to MMA
it's simple, not easy.
I could’ve sworn Eddie just had slick back black hair like last week?!🤔
Back 2 The Basics
This video is way too bright, i had to wear sunglasses
The earth is square
Aha Thats where I fucked up I went to leg lock vocational school
Oss
What is throw sand is is throw sand again.
there's an interview with Fabio Santos that he mentions; seeing two guys trying to out leg lock each other looks like they are having sex, lol. Everyone is on to this now, so Eddie is right on this. Let's get back to passing that guard and not always relying on the leg locks.
And Gordan Ryan fulfills the prophecy. Passed everyone guard and won easy.
He leg locked people lmao
@@organicallyiowa7161 they didn’t count all that matter was Andre 🤨
How about how to not get into a guillotine and then how to get out
Would Roger Gracie beat Gordon Ryan?
in the gi, yes, in no-gi, no
@@GuitarBloodlines On the money, if you look at it, Gordon’s essentially become the American Roger Gracie. All about defending against and shutting down your game, then implementing his own as efficiently as possible to finish. Garry’s more of a Leandro Lo-type (RIP).
Before long, BJJ will complete its evolution into Catch Wrestling.
Next, BJJ will continue to incorporate wrestling and judo techniques, and then act like it valued takedowns all along, hahaha.
This guy gets it
You think the end result of jiu jitsu evolution is catch wrestling?! Lmfao
Bjj will become catch? They'll become fat old guys in singlets banging on about Japanese pro wrestling? Interesting.
@@redearthpaul178
Hahaha, the completion of the cycle!
Catch wrestling, or whatever you want to call it, is all about motion, like all other forms of wrestling. BJJ was all about the bastion/fortress concept (guard), movement/maneuver always defeats the fortress. I don't see people playing guard in MMA anymore, why is that? It's obsolete, excepting a rule set that favors it.
Carlos Gracie make them shit bone chips Jiu-Jitsu
I came to see what Eddie Bravo has to say about BJJ but all the real experts are in the comments. Funny.
I dont have legs so leg lockers are fucked. I have gorilla arms for yeara of walking on them. Also my no leg physicallity instills guilt because who the fuck wants to grapple with the guy with no legs? Exactly. I will always win.
Who graded this, and why did they do it with their eyes shut?
Next thing you know everyone's going to be doing OG Judo/Jujutsu and realize the practicality of Stand-up over Ground in a real world fight. 🤣
I like to say I don't do jujitsu, I do Judo until someone forces me to use a little jujitsu
Leglock college
WHO did the colors in this video? Fire this person, lol.
I cant figure out if its the white balance or just general lighting but this footage is terrible
Leglock college hahaha
Rock, paper, scissors.
RNC
BJJers will end standing up and doing only throws, LMAO.
Gay guard is the next trend . No one ever tried giving someone a hicky from back control .
Instructions unclear: I went around leg-locking "browns" and "blacks" and now I'm in jail.
Black guy here. I was hoping someone would make this joke. lol
Leglocks will win the battle but it won't win the war.
Eddie claimed everyone would be using rubber guard in MMA lmao 🤣 😂...never happened.
Good point. But even more interesting is that not only rubber guard is not popular in mma, it is almost non existent. So it's not like some are still not using it. Almost noone is using it. And that surprises me. Are benefits of rubber guard for mma, descibed so many times by Eddie, not a real thing? Anyone care to explain it to a fan of the sport with no practical experience? For sure "it is still too early" argument is not valid. Look how quickly calf kick got adopted. I understand rubber guard system requires more learning, but it has been around for years already.
Its always cyclical. This is pancraytion
Thankyou Captain Obvious
Man this guy rambles, is he on drugs?
Yes.😄
