    In this Interview I asked Jiujitsu legend Eddie Bravo if he thinks it's possible to win a tournament like ADCC without having good wrestling. Eddie Bravo believes it's very important to develop your wrestling for No Gi but also makes the point that the best guy in the world Gordon Ryan won ADCC by pulling guard. This was also done by Marcelo Garcia in ADCC 2003 and Jean Jaques Machado.

    To win you don’t need to be the best wrestler. You have to have competent wrestling which most pure jiu jitsu people lack, hence the emphasis on them wrestling. What Gordon and Marcelo lack in pure wrestling, they make up for in an ability to sweep people from bottom position, get on top, and stay in top while prioritizing getting to the back.

      It is basically, you either learn how to wrestle from the top or wrestle up from bottom. The problem is a lot of people think they will win by laying on their but. That won't win you an ADCC.

I hope 10th planet wins ADCC Gold one day. Theve been at the 4 front of No-Gi, they deserve it. 10th planet wouldn't even exist without ADCC, there connected.Just gotta get better at points😅

    Nice interview by Eddie, keeps it real. Damn his head is big now! JJM, MG, GR are legit ADCC legends with no wrestling. Some of the sucessful ADCC BJJ guys did wrestle though. Leo Vieira and Cobrinha come to mind.

    Everyone has strength & weaknesses in their game. All the people mentioned did not have wrestling based approach & won at high elite level. What they all do is train with high level elite grapplers of all types to make their style applicable. The masses favor in wrestling due to the work ethic / training involved. What those people mentioned do that won from a guard game is relentless train all bad positions and figure out the area of failure & found access points of openings to advance/ defense. Then drilled it over & over. They get comfortable being uncomfortable. The more amazing thing other than they won against the odds is how strong the mind set they possess. They stay calm & emotionally level. That’s a true martial artist. Adapt & overcome.

    It's all wrestling! Honestly, I think the biggest detail of the early days was who was willing to train outside of the gi first. And let's also be honest, wrestlers pick up jiu jitsu wayyy faster than most. Whoever can learn jiujitsu but do it at a wrestlers or judokas pace will probably do well in the sport. And don't forget arguably the best or at least better than Garcia and JJM was Roger, and he did wrestle quite a bit.

    • @slipperywhenwat
      @slipperywhenwat Рік тому +3

      Is that a serious comment? Your other example of the best grappler/wrestler is Roger Gracie? The guy that is infamously known for having the best closed guard game in the world? He’s a pure Jiu Jitsu guy, sorry. In fact, I’d argue that most wrestlers never actually break the curse of never learning how to fight off their back. Show me a pure wrestler like Bo Nickel that subs people from bottom in guard. Respectfully, I just disagree

    • @uncircumcisedcircus
      @uncircumcisedcircus Рік тому

      @slipperywhenwat Buchecha? Arona? Galvao? Werdum? Vinny? Do I need to list everyone who could wrestle/submit from the bottom and had a medal in ADCC?? Obviously, the rules are hyper specialized, but you're a fool to deny that wrestlers don't pick up the sport way faster. Your mind would be blown by how many ADCC Champs also had judo backgrounds, but you BJJ cultists like to live in delusion.

    The problem is trying to out wrestle a wrestler. I train with a D1 All american runner up wrestler. Impossible to touch him on the foot,but if I pull guard, I can do pretty well at keeping my guard and finding subs. Yeah , even though Adcc has some rules that benefit wrestlers, it's still possibly 40 minutes of ground fighting If someone pulls guard, the submission artist has a pretty good chance of finding a finish.

  • @MikeyMinimo

    Sometimes there’s absolute mavericks like GR and MG etc. They are exceptions because of their amazing ability. Comparing the rest of us mere mortals to them I think is wrong. I get that Eddie is saying you can be like them too but for the average Joe, which is most of us, you need to be competent when wrestling especially if competing.

  • @agharta42
    @agharta42 Рік тому

    Most likely no, because people can and will stall the first 10 minutes to go to points. 'Jiujitsu' takedowns are actually Judo and wrestling takedowns, if you want to clarify the title as 'can you win adcc only with sweeps submissions and buttscooting?' yes possibly, Kron did it years ago, grappling has evolved however and really why narrow your options if you've made it as far as ADCC?

    Less Impressed more involved BJJ channel on youtube has a good breakdown on wrestling for adcc. He dove deep in the stats to find that the ones who initiated the takedown, and were chain wrestling actually had a lower success rate. The positions were won from the counter to the wrestling the turtle, dogfight almost like 50/50 and the front head lock. Also leg locks came mostly from the bottom.
    There's no doubt wrestling is important for ADCC, but you shouldn't focus on becoming takedown machine NCAA 4x champ wrestling, you should focus on winning the positions that are 50/50 off the takedowns.
