Laura Penn, Ph.D. is disrupting how we speak in public.
As an award-winning speaker, author, and Founding Director of The Public Speaking School, she has had enough of watching BAD presentations. Her mission is to vastly improve and fundamentally change how we deliver presentations… with a totally new approach.
Her dynamic talk will reveal the ORIGIN of her fire and will dig in to the nuts and bolts of this exciting approach, leaving you with some of the tools that you need to try it out for yourself.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx
Yes, it is true, it is a little bit theatrical, but since we understand, from what you are saying, that it is part of both your background, and the idea, it is not chocking at all.
I am not a public speaker, but I dare to say that, after hearing this, I do not listen to conferences, and Ted Talks, in the same way!
I am happy to see that there are now six translators (Chinese, Arabic, Italian, Korean, Spanish and Vietnamese) working on your video. Congratulations Laura!
Hi Peter, I agree that my theatricality was turned up on high. I felt so in the moment on that stage with such an amazing audience, that I just let it go. For my next speech, I am looking forward to exchanging some of that theatrical energy for more straight talk so that I can have a sharper message.
The audience on that stage are lucky of being attending this effective and functional presentation
but you were straight. I dunno what else do they want.
Just saying. I got your message and thats it. Thanks Laura
Thank you from my deep heart Laura
I think if you are authentic, as Ms. Penn is in her speech, the passion and emotion are expressed (yet exaggerated only because the topic is public speaking!) is essential to convincing the audience that the speaker believes in what he/she is saying...thus you believe. I had a physics professor in undergrad and he was absolutely passionate in his lectures. He loved the material - it was obvious. The students responded with full auditoriums even on Friday mornings.
Greatest understanding
I wish I had her confidence to talk like that with no flash cards, excellent job 👍
I always learn from her ✨👌👏
Hello
i always try to do public speaking but i have problem , when i start to presenting i have an butterfly in my stomach and become a face is red . so how do i removed this?
Just don't speak.
within 2 hours, you can remove all of this in a simple manner. No magic, just simple practive. Write back to me!
Sound is not audible
Laura, please don't go to any of my public speech presentations. I would feel so nervous knowing that you are in the audience. :-)
She is too performative herself. Way too theatrical. Does not come across as genuine because of this, and is difficult to listen to. Hinders her own message due to her distracting delivery style. I teach students to come across as genuine and real, speak extemperaneously and passionately about something, and to have material designed to provide the audience with practical value.
What about if she's like that in real life
For example, my sister is kinda histrionic (like that) when she is happy
Peter Kopr i totaly agree with you. She looks like she's acting and this is making her public speaking loosing authenticity and makes the audience more uncomfortable to listen.
Peter Kopr I beg to disagree. I think she is a top speaker, true to her nature and delivering a wonderful performance. Her style engages the audience and gets the message through.
