It is basically some wires and one 47Ohm (or an alternative wiring uses an additional 10kOhm pull-up resistor on the Data-line, which seems to increase card and game compatibility).

What tip size are you using on your soldering iron. And what's the gauge of the wires. I can't seem to find small ones. Or maybe I'm using the wrong ones.
You dont need a tiny tip to do this. Or atleast i dont. I use just a regular pointy tip. The wire used is 30AWG kynar, except for VCC and GND wires which are 24 or 26AWG
@@goumods7762 thanks for the reply. I'm using something similar but maybe I need to.fix my soldering skills. What temp are you using? I seem to melt the resistors
@@OnTheEdgex23 Ouch. Thats gonna be a pain to fix, unless you have a hot air station i guess. I keep my iron at 370C, which i've been told is a lot, but it seems to works better, atleast for me. I use quality Kester solder, but when i use lower temps i need to keep my iron on the board for longer, and i dont like doing that. So i prefer to have it a bit hotter and get it done faster. Just to be sure that the board i am working on is safe
@@goumods7762 I've damaged a few motherboard already. More than I care to admit. I'm using a dead one to.practice. I just got a new soldering iron. I'm hoping using a smaller tip helps.
It can help with smaller parts, but smaller tips will have a harder time melting solder than bigger ones. So use the bigger one you feel confident with. Trust me i have damaged tons of board when i first started. Its all part of the learning process haha
Hi, does this mod of yours still impose a problem with the PS10 fuse if the microSD is unplugged when the PS2 is sleeping? I'm interested in this but I don't know whether PS2 Slim has the fuse problem like PS2 Phat.
As far as i know, PS10 is a HDD fuse. And the slim does not have one of those. I never had an issue with a fuse getting blown on those machines. So i guess its not a problem in this case.
Does this mod work on all 7700x models and below or just 7000x? Edit: I just found out that its only the 7000x, but do you know if this would work with the Japanese models?
should work, think different region consoles are still the same hardware, so as long as it has the PS1 CPU which is used for HDD functionality (and is only in the 7000x slim models)
I completed this mod but after I format the sd card in ULaunchElf it is no longer recognizable on my computer. Have you ever seen this happen or know what the issue could be?
@@goumods7762 Great! Maybe, maybe, maaaayyybe I'll try this with mine, lol, its a 700XX model (can't remember clearly) so it'll work, I guess. Thank you very much! And again, amazing work!
Yes it works on both the v12 and v13. The process is identical. You probably have a weak solder joint or a bridge somewhere. The video shows a v13 board even.
Hi! Nice video congratulations! I would like to do the same job you did in the video with my PS2 V12, but in my case I'm using a MicroSD to IDE adapter (not SD Card to IDE adapter). Looking carefully at your video and following the diagrams found on the internet, I noticed that pin number 28 (SPSYNC: CSEL) you connected it to the GROUND. Is it correct? Should pin 28 also be connected to GROUND? Thank you very much!
@@goumods7762 Perfect, thank you very much for your reply. One last question, the pins 41 and 42 (5v Logic and 5v Motor) you connected them together on the 5 volt line, right?
I'd imagine SD card and DVD loading are similar in speed save for rare cases. Because the PS2 is as old as it is, it doesn't benefit from increased load speed from Solid State storage like modern consoles, but that doesn't mean there's no upside. SD cards use less power than disc drives or HDD's. USB drives are slower, SD and DVD loading are faster. It's not because flash drives are slow. Ps2 uses USB 1.1, which is over 20 years old! very slow! We have USB 3.0 now, but 2.0 has been the standard for a long time. I know a lot of people use Raspberry Pi's connected to the PS2 through Ethernet to load games faster.
Actually, in most cases the speed of the SD is faster than DVD. Yes, it is an IDE interface, but the random reads are massively faster in the SD cards than in regular HDDs, and especially DVDs.
@@goumods7762 thanks brotha! Love yours as well. Just recently got my hands on som Mars Pro GM-806hds and installing one in a v12 right now :D I really like have yours mounted here so I'm going to give that a shot. Do you know what the different button combos for this chip? I see that holding triangle boots to OPL for your setup, That that point the modchip to boot from an elf file in a specific location? I'm just curious how one goes about booting elf files with these chips, I found the diagrams for these chips but I'm not finding much user guide tips.
Sorry i dont check this channel very often. I wouldnt mount a modchip like that in a regular console. It works with what i am doing because i'm removing the metal shield. Triangle boots BOOT/BOOT.ELF (DEV1) L1 disables the chip Square boots in DMS configurator (but just like all other DMS4 Lite clones you cant save settings) PS1 mode can be forced by reseting the console twice(only needed on 9000x models) User guides for those clones were always crap. You can find the original user guides for the 806HD using archive org but the information is useless. Even compatibility is wrong. They list the 7500x as supported, but i have tried more than 5 by now and they never work. They work fine on all other slims though.
Do these load faster than a usb? If so, when i get good at doing this stuff, i want to try my hand at it. I don't understand the point in the modchip though because won't it just do everything a fmcb memory card will? Also nice work. There is way more skill in this video than ive ever seen.
This mod is even faster than regular HDDs. So it's A LOT faster than USB. Yes, you can use fmcb instead of a modchip nowadays, but the modchip is a lot more convenient. You just put a disc in and it plays. With fmcb and softmods you need to patch and reburn discs etc. So while the modchip is not as useful as it used to be, it helps in making your life a lot easier.
@@goumods7762 yea. Thats what i've noticed. Ive also been looking at a modbo install on one of these, but im just starting out on console mods and soldering in general. Do you think this is as hard as or easier than the modbo installs i've been seeing?

Impressive mod. I just ordered one from you, to ship to Belgium. I guess I'll have to format my SD card as FAT32 ?
Thank you for your purchase! Check your etsy inbox ;)
How do you know where every cable goes to sd card reader?
Never heard of that
Are they for sale ?
ps2 still alive
Thank god the PS2 has been softmodded now, cause installing a mod chip with 20 wires and dense contact points is hell
Does this work on model slim 90010? I would like to know.
No. This works only in 70k models.
Its normal. The PS2 uses a propriatery HDD format. Use winhiip or something similar to transfer games
g-zus why so many wires??? I'm so clueless about eletronics
Props to you! seems amazing
Nice and well job, dude!!!! Respectum!!!
Unbeliavable work, thank you for sharing!! Do you think this will work with a Matrix chip??
Any modchip will work. And yeah i've done it with Matrix chips before
@@goumods7762 Great! Maybe, maybe, maaaayyybe I'll try this with mine, lol, its a 700XX model (can't remember clearly) so it'll work, I guess. Thank you very much! And again, amazing work!
On the V13 board there are these same points on the mod ide, I did it and it didn't work, can you tell me if it works on the V13?
According to the diagram i used all this time, pins 22-24-26-28-30 are all connected to ground yes
@@goumods7762 Perfect, thank you very much for your reply. One last question, the pins 41 and 42 (5v Logic and 5v Motor) you connected them together on the 5 volt line, right?
Connecting either of them will work. They should be the same since there is only logic on those board. I usually connect just pin 41.
@@goumods7762 ok perfect, thank you very much!
Really impressive... How do the loading speeds from the SD card compare to loading speeds from a DVD, or from a USB drive?
Yes, it is an IDE interface, but the random reads are massively faster in the SD cards than in regular HDDs, and especially DVDs.
fantastic work!
I love your work
@@goumods7762 thanks brotha!
Triangle boots BOOT/BOOT.ELF (DEV1)
L1 disables the chip
Square boots in DMS configurator (but just like all other DMS4 Lite clones you cant save settings)
PS1 mode can be forced by reseting the console twice(only needed on 9000x models)
User guides for those clones were always crap. You can find the original user guides for the 806HD using archive org but the information is useless. Even compatibility is wrong. They list the 7500x as supported, but i have tried more than 5 by now and they never work. They work fine on all other slims though.
What device are you using to capture ps2 footage?
Pegas los cables con cianocrilato??
Can I load ps1 games from the sd card with this mod?
do you have a video on how to get the sd card set up
Here: ua-cam.com/video/dKzuEJrIzBk/v-deo.html
I would advise you to not do these mods if you are just starting and have no experience in soldering, unless you dont care about killing your console. Start off with something simpler and move to this when you feel confident enough. And yes, this is a lot harder than just a modbo.
SCPH-700XX is my favorit...
Love me a mars pro modified system!
😮🎉 increíble trabajo
mx4xio sd card adapter makes this obsolete now, but great vid
I dont care about the PS2 things.. its just an insane soldering skill
which version of opl do i need?
Keep it up..great work
Did you used a 44 pin ide to sd or a 40 pin ide to sd?
I used a 44 pin, but a 40 pin would work too. It's just too big to fit inside the console
may I ask what gauge wire you used? thank you :)
30AWG single core kynar for everything except power and ground. I used 24AWG stranded for those
@@goumods7762 I couldn’t find any 30 awg single core on amazon. I’m just using stranded instead. Is that okay?
What are all the parts and components you need for this mod?
