Great video. Very realistic, and it’s always good when it takes a couple tries, that lets us know that it might go wrong but will be OK. I recommend putting the new bearing in the freezes for a few hours to shrink it just a little, and maybe spread a little grease in the fitting just east the insertion. I also noticed on the 1st try the shaft wasn’t straight, you drove at an upward angle. I recommend a couple light taps look to be sure all is aligned. But again, great video, it went in and all is good.
thanks for the feedback, and I do put a little grease or Vasoline on outside of bearing to help and the shaft may look like wrong angle but the gimbal housing moves and the bellow holds them up alittle sometimes and cant look at or judge by that, but have to stay straight with the transom assembly and after doing so many over the years i guess its just second nature to me at what angle to hold the shaft haha, and yes sometimes I get it started and look to make sure the outer ring is not coming off like this one did first time, but i guess making the video i wasn't thinking plus if it just pops in to easy then i know the ring is gonna be sticking out wrong. , thanks for watching Vassmotorsports and hope ya check out some of my other videos sometime
i learned a lot about how to replace the bearing, i had it done 3 years ago with the boot replacement, it cost $700... yep... labor $105 a hour in San Diego... Sunset marine in EL Cajon, Calif...
thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching, that was actually not a bad deal especially being at a marina. .sounds like you came out good for having to pay someone to do it. most start at $1300 and up
bet that one sounds great. ,thanks for watching Vassmotorsports and hope ya check out some of my other videos sometime and good luck with your bellows. definitely a do able job
thank you for the feedback, no reason to drop the lower unless doing a new impeller and I know this one is good as ive only used the boat a handful of times since i did a new one 2 years ago , the bearing went bad because the boat was caught in Hurricane Ian and water inside the boat was high enough to reach the bearing for 5 days straight and I got her back on the water and trailered her to Destin florida and thats when it started roaring so i knew i had to replace, thanks for watching Vassmotorsports and hope ya check out some of my other videos sometime, here is one when i found her after the storm and i have a playlist of videos work i had to do to her. , also have videos from before the storm. ive owned this particular boat 18 yrs now ua-cam.com/video/aa2E34OVoLw/v-deo.htmlsi=_oYD8bLwKx-jWIOY
im actually going to start my gamble tomorrow , ill be using this video very informative, im curios tho, should you grease the gimble, wouldn't it go in easier as well?
thanks and Thanks for watching Vassmotorsports, hope ya check out some of my other videos, these bearings are sealed and hard to find one thats greasable anymore. although as I did in the video ,i lubed the outside lightly with Vasoline ,can use grease of course, and it definitely helps seat the bearing easier, good luck with your project
Very rare to get a greasable one as replacement, but also no way to inject it into bearing untill its fully seated in gimbal housing and inject thru zerk fitting on side of housing, also they come with enough grease when new and last many hours if allignment is straight and no water intrusion thru bellow or this case to much water got inside boat for 5 days from Hurricane Ian before I could rescue and drain her ,so last season i ran couple times on Lake but then trailered to Destin florida crab island and i heard it roaring and knew it was bad , thanks for watching Vassmotorsports and hope ya check out some of my other ,always something different
sorry i do not but its very similar to this gen 1 except the clamp on ujoint bellow , but this is a video on the Bravo and everything will be the same except the shift cable goes into a clamp on the outdrive. your gen 2 is like the gen 1 as put your shifter forward engaging gear before removing drive , thanks for watching Vassmotorsports and hope ya check out some of my other videos sometime ua-cam.com/video/WjuIZC_gY5w/v-deo.htmlsi=x6mALrzV3Sh1y-I2
thanks for the comment but ive never put new nuts (unless loose one or its damaged) one of my boats ive owned 18 yrs and never had an issue reusing the nuts , they are lock nuts too. thanks for watching Vassmotorsports and hope ya check out some of my other videos sometime
thanks i do sometimes but this particular trailer doesn't get it high enough so thats why i just use my ramps i have cut and habbit i use them on most boats I service, , thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching Vassmotorsports and hope ya check out some of my other videos sometime
i dont know why it would be at 10?think it was for the old style greasable bearings but im not sure if ya can even get one anymore ,all bearings ive used just have dot engraved and no colors, ive been installing them that way for 18 yrs no issues on my own boats and friends and customers ive known for years , thanks for watching Vassmotorsports and hope ya check out some of my other videos sometime

I like this video. You even left in the sleeve mishap in which actually helps. Why did you choose not to drop the lower unit.

Question. If thebearing is a greaseable one why not pack it before install?
@Vassmotorsports couldn't you just pack it by hand before install is what I mean.
@@wipachogie10 no if it is greasable only has a small hole and already full of grease. The fitting is just for future services through out the years
Did you have a video that did the Bellows on alpha 1 gen 2

During reassembly, should you use new nuts?
thanks for the comment but ive never put new nuts (unless loose one or its damaged) one of my boats ive owned 18 yrs and never had an issue reusing the nuts , they are lock nuts too. thanks for watching Vassmotorsports and hope ya check out some of my other videos sometime
You could just lower tongue
thanks i do sometimes but this particular trailer doesn't get it high enough so thats why i just use my ramps i have cut and habbit i use them on most boats I service, , thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching Vassmotorsports and hope ya check out some of my other videos sometime
Very good

I heard elsewhere the dot on the bearing goes in at 10 o’clock. Can you clarify? I’ll be doing mine next week! Great video thanks for posting!
