I stop my 1989 W124 for a whole day and it starts up and drives normally. However, after a while it starts to stumble and shuts down, then it won't start up again after 30 mins or so, then everything goes back to normal. Could we be talking about the same solution of replacing the rotor and distribution cap? Thanks.
A cap and rotor is easy to replace. I did change parts ( Ignition coil, Spark plugs, spark plug cables, Fuel Injectors, Fuel pump relay, Fuel pumps,) Those items did not fix the problem. It came down to the distributor cap & Rotor. After I changed it. The problem was solved. I believe its the Quality of the aftermarket parts. Try to go for a name brand instead of Online Race to the basement Price. You should keep a running Diary of the parts changed with mileage and date.
The uneven quality of "On line" "No Name" parts. It was hard to believe that the Distributor cap & Rotor was the problem. Since it was recently changed. I looked elsewhere for the problem. As a last resort I went back and replaced the Cap and Rotor. It started up with No problems. On line the items were a bargain I thought. $25 for cap & Rotor with Free Shipping. From Nov 2021 to April 2023 the car traveled 1,563 miles. No stumble yet. The replacement was also an "Online" "No Name" for $25.00 with free shipping.
"How did I advance it? " I Don't know of any way to Advance or Retard the ignition timing on a W124. Please check with another You Tuber and get their opinion. Thank you.
I don't know what make & year Mercedes you have. I changed the Camshaft seal on a 1988 300e 6 cylinder. I was able to remove the Rotor button to get to the seal. I did a video on Jan 22, 2021 showing how I removed the Rotor Button Only.
@@pierresvensson340 Don't Forget to Remove the Center Bolt that holds the Distributor Button to the Camshaft FIRST. Then Use TWO Screws to evenly back out the Distributor Rotor Button. Went to a Hardware Store to Match the thread and purchased 2 longer Screws. To back out the Button.
@@itcanbedone4721 i have look at you video very smart withe the skruvs i do the same on my benz i need too order home the camshaft seal first thanks 😀👍👍
What I would Inspect. 1. See if fuel pump Humms for 3 seconds when you turn the key to on position. If yes that means Fuel pump is working. 2. Check for spark when Cranking the motor. 3. When was Distributor cap and Rotor Changed? That was my problem. The Cap & Rotor would fail and Not Start. After I changed the Cap & Rotor it Started right up and ran ok. I purchased my parts on Ebay. They don't seem to last as long. Looking at Price only. I changed many other parts thinking it was the Fuel Injectors. Fuel Pump relay, Ignition coil, Fuel pumps, Spark plugs & Spark plug cables, Etc. I did not know that the Cap & Rotor would Wear out so Quickly. Lasting only Months Not Years. 4. It came back to the Distributor Cap & Rotor. This was the problem I had with my 1988 300e. When the car would start to stumble in a few months of driving. I would replace the cap & rotor first. In the United States on Ebay the cap & rotor are about $30 with free shipping.

@@itcanbedone4721 Thank you so much, I’ll check it today, we have lower prices for spare parts in Kazakhstan, probably due to the proximity of China
