  • Five Stance Form (Wu Bu Quan) demonstrated by Master David Bao from Hua Ying Wushu & Tai Chi Academy in Malaysia
    This short Wushu routine comprises the Five important stances of Chinese Martial Arts which are :
    Horse stance 马步 (Ma Bu), Bow Stance 弓步 (Gong Bu), Rest Stance 斜步 (Xie Bu), Crouching Stance 扑步 (Pu Bu) and Empty Stance 虚步 (Xu Bu).
    The Five Stance Form is the first Wushu form that all beginners learn. Regular practice gives the student a strong foundation and improves body coordination.

    I'm glad to have this on my playlist for information, because primarily l'm a Korean Martial Arts practioner also, but l've also had some Kung Fu training as well back in West Sacramento with my Sifu Joseph Williams and l kept alot of information and recently African Martial Arts with Ahati Kilindi.

    Yes! thank you. Genuine question, would people use these for actual fighting? Like I wouldn't want to half sit crossed leg in front of someone that's trying to beat me up.

      Nah, during fighting they move just like every MMA striker does. Some of the weirder stances are so you can maintain balance after a throw. Actually most twisting you see is for throwing. Rest stance is also good strength/balance training for cross-behind sidekicks. Any time you see a crane stance it's probably part of a sweep or blocking a low kick.

    Wushu should be compulsory in every uk school instead of old fashioned team sports. No bully would dare pick on the small scrawny kid if they see him throwing mean left hooks during sparring

    For the Wu Bu Quan, would we need to also alternate to the other side (i.e. stance)?

      Wu Bu Quan is done on one side. No need to alternate to the other side.

    This is exactly how I was taught too. What style of Kung Fu is this? Is it a variation of Long Fist / Changquan?

      Yes, its Changquan. Five Stance Form is a basic Form everyone learns.
