- Learn about the types of tunes often played in the Gaelic music tradition and the unique fiddling style of Cape Breton Island in this demonstration filmed at the Celtic Music Interpretive Centre.
Hosted by Shelly Campbell
Thanks a million times for this video. We've lived over 26 years on Cape Breton and I've learned more in 12 minutes than all our years here. I personally don't play the violin but various other instruments; Piano, accordion, guitar and trying hard to learn concertina and mandolin. I play in a local group and certainly would enjoy a similar video on piano accompaniment (Cape Breton style of course). Cheers.
Thank you, Shelly - a great intro to the Cape Breton style and (as with all properly talented players) you make it appear effortless. ❤
Well done! Danced all my life to the fiddle and didn't know any of this!
Excellent video! Lots of nuggets of musical knowledge, explained simply, contextually, & clearly. :)
That was very brief but very informative. Thanks for that presentation, I really enjoyed it. I've been a musician for most of my adult life but have only recently started playing the fiddle. I'm in my mid-50s now but having more fun than ever. Those little nuances you described are golden information. Thanks again.
Hi Shelley. That's a great demonstration, explanation of the music on your part.Wow!
Celtic music explained in a very interesting way. Really lovely. Etiquette, to me, is very important. Clapping is reserved for the end of the performance. To be in a full hall at an Echoes of Erin concert and hearing everyone living the music and tapping the time with the foot on the floor is something else.
Thanks. There's so much to learn about this tradition. As an aside, a puirt-a-beul was used in the dance in the first episode of Sanditon, the first time I'd really appreciated what these could be. It was very expressive and energetic.
So well explained and played -- and great camera work! Thank you!
Thank you for such an informative and easy to understand explanation.
Fastest 11m of the day. Truly interesting stuff.
Very interesting information and most beautiful music
Thanks for this! Love it!
Very cool! Thanks! 😎
great - thanks (Wiesbaden - Germany)
What a great video! I thoroughly enjoyed it and I think she just explained why “King George IV” never sounds right when I play it!
Av en för mig obegriplig anledning har jag svårt att skilja på reels och jigs. Spännande att ta del av Shelly Campbells kunskaper
What a beautiful music I could just listen to you all day. I’d love to visit Cape Breton someday I heard it’s a beautiful place. How blessed we are in Canada to have that beautiful culture.
Does anyone know the name of the march she played?
If his toes aren’t tapping….you better check his pulse
