Is there a way to edit in a close-up of the label so we can get a better idea of what you’re showing us. It would help us watching the videos to know what we’re looking for, just a thought. Thanks, I look forward to all your videos. Thank you for all you do. Cheers.

They would be well served with a secondary camera focused in on the bottles for sure. That would mean more edit work for Trenton so it's probably a no go😂

Try increasing the video quality, pause the video, then pinch to zoom on the label. They usually aren't in focus, but good enough to see. Heck, often times it's the bottles are on shelf in the back that are in focus and not the guys. 😂

Whiskey Acres is based out of DeKalb, IL. They started off as a farm and started a distillery there more recently. They are a farm to glass distillery, meaning all of the grains used to make their whiskey are grown on their farm.
Blue Popcorn bourbon is a limited release made from an heirloom variety of corn called blue popcorn, and yes, the kernels are blue. They experiment with a lot of other heirloom corn varieties as well and release them as limited releases when they're ready. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the Blue Popcorn bourbon, but I did like their Bloody Butcher bourbon and Glass Gem Corn Bourbon. They recently were able to release their first age stated bourbon at 7 years too, so they're making progress. They make a killer rye too, if you can find one at cask strength. I'm still waiting for them to release their oaxacan green corn bourbon. That one should be interesting.

I love their Artisan Series aged in Maple Syrup Casks. To me it's a Decadence killer because it's around 115 proof, rather than 90 that Decadence is released with. I prefer it over Decadence.

    • @Vortex1988
      @Vortex1988 5 місяців тому

@@MWA91 I've never had Widow Jane Decadence, but I'm not a huge fan of the Whiskey Acres Maple Cask. To me, it just tastes like they're trying to cover up a young bourbon with maple syrup. It's been a while since I had any, but I remember it tasting like astringent maple syrup, which doesn't really strike me as a quality whiskey. More like flavored grain alcohol.

Ben Holladay is great. Their rickhouse proof, single barrels, and BIB’s are all really good. Whiskey Acres is another great. That Blue Popcorn is delicious. Try their Bloody Butcher bourbon. A very tasty treat. Their BIB is also very good. Doing great things with heirloom varieties of corn.

Love that you're showing more Maker's Mark, I had the 101 myself tonight. Now, Whiskey Acres, you guys are really missing out, and it's such a reasonable drive for you. They're an hour west of Chicago on I-88 and available at stores all around Chicagoland. They were taught by the Maker's Mark master distiller, their still is from Kentucky, and here's the thing, everything in that bottle comes from the property. The corn, the barley, the wheat, the yeast, and the limestone water, everything. No other distillery does this, to my knowledge anyway. Everything from their own farm. My favorite regular product is the Bottled in Bond, it's corn forward, and gives you this magical sweet cornbread taste in an old fashioned, and it's only $42. Somebody did you a huge favor giving you that Blue Popcorn, it's one of my favorites. That's a $70 bottle. It's available one day a year, that day is in December, and you most likely have to go to the distillery to get it as few stores get it and they get like one or two cases. I got the absolute last bottle they sold in 2023 and I am so thankful. Whenever you are in the Chicago are make sure you pick up something from Whiskey Acres and maybe stop by the distillery some day.

The 46 was good/ok neat, but the rest seem more like mixers to me. Just my take.

No worries, Trent ... my mom had refrigerator magnets shaped like fruit and my brother tried to eat most of those ... all of them had teeth marks on them...........I enjoy the local distillers/bottlers here in Georgia quite a bit, though most of them are not getting the publicity that 13th Colony is. Short Barrel is similar to Barrel in that they do a fine job blending whiskey (I just got a store pick of theirs which is double barreled and its top notch), RM Rose recently released a wheated barrel proof that I really like too. You already know about ASW.

Responder Bourbon was founded by a group of police officers and business owners and portions of proceeds go toward the families of police fire and EMS. It was released in 2022 I believe. For the Dickel BiB, the 13 Year distilled in Fall 2008 was the best of the ones I've had.

I've been drinking those Bare Knuckle for a couple of years now - one of the best hidden gems around. Have tried multiple different barrels and have only run across one that was just "good" (all of the others were outstanding)

KO Distilling Bare Knuckle is incredible and has been a personal favorite for a couple of years...Not sure about the bottle you guys have, but 15 series barrels are MGP aged in Kelvin Cooperage barrels and are absolutely superb...the 16 series barrels use ISC barrels and are still good, but it don't hold a candle to the whiskey from the Kelvin barrels!!!

Great insight. I just grabbed a bottle yesterday 131 proof, before I saw your comment. Just checked the bottle and it's barrel 15-009. I have had other MGP aged in Kelvin barrels and they have been great, so very excited that this one looks to be as well.

😂 Everybody else leaves the outtakes for the last, but y'all done it right. 😂
Bourbon *IS* whisky - it's bourbon whiskey, just as there's Scotch whisky and rye whiskey. Saying "Bourbon and whiskey" is like saying "Fords and cars." 🙂
8:58 A lot of people don't like Dickel, but I've never gotten any Flintstones from it, and I like their No. 12, which gives me a delicious pecan note on the palate. Their bourbon, though, is awful.
11:39 Balcones Distilling has done amazing things with blue corn. It's the dominant grain in their Texas Pot Still Bourbon, and if I remember right their corn whisky (Baby Blue and True Blue), which is blue corn, has a 100% corn mash bill.
    20:20 Trenton, that's high treason. 🤣

Similar to this topic and somewhat contradictory in trying to expose good whiskey that is available, but have you ever considered a show highlighting whiskeys from small distilleries that are not distributed/only available at the distillery? This would be more about acquisition though tourism or exposing local distilleries that people are unaware of. 2 Loons Distillery in my area makes some very good whiskeys but small operation with zero distribution, I'm drinking their new rye release now.
