Yes. They are built by US workers who have to conform to the Japanese philosophy of working. The hiring process is very selective, and those who fail to fit in are culled out. Many powertrain components are built in Japan and shipped to the US, because the Japanese consider these components to be too important to the success of the vehicle to allow them to be made by the Gaijin. In polite conversation, that word means "foreigner," but to the Japanese, it means "barbarian."

J Series v6 is by far the best v6 ever made. Extremely reliable, easy to work on, versatile enough for cars to suvs. Only downsides is the fuel economy isn't quite as good as more modern v6s, and when they started doing the stupid VCM they started burning oil like every other cylinder deactivation engines.

The Toyota/Lexus 2GR 3.5L V6 is still a gold standard in the class. Use 40/50 weight oil and you'll have it till you're in the nursing home (plenty of people well over 400k and some even on the original automatic). Fuel economy is good, too. Try a ford 300. That straight six is slow but 75,000 is breaking it in. I've had one for years, 14 or 15. Bought it with unknown miles in non running condition. Had an issue with the fuel pump leaking and carburetor. Paid $300 for it, it was retired to being an old farm truck for the seller. It never gave me trouble as a daily. Stuff around it, typical stuff like the starter, voltage regulator were a different story. That engine though never burnt the first drop of oil. I still own it but have opted for a ranger a few years ago. It after almost completely parking it blow a head gasket on me. I drove it about an hourish getting home, stopping to put water in it when the temp got too high. I just put a new gasket on, in an afternoon btw, and called it good. It's still running fine after that. That engine is outlasting the body at this point. I call it my trusty rusty lol.

According to to the ASE, after reviewing all the data, the best and most reliable V6s, are the 2014 and later, Pentastar V6s. Even the 2011-2013 models had a less than 1% failure rate, with even those that had the cylinder head problems, still ran, though at lower power and efficiency.

    Scotty,
I’ve never owned a Lexus but I have a 1996 LeSabre with 118k miles. This thing is absolutely beautiful. Solid underneath and the exterior is near mint. Yes, it’s old…I’ve replaced all the suspension, water pump, PS pump, serpentine belt, subframe bushings, brakes and valve cover gaskets. My wife’s uncle had this car and changed the oil every 6 months with only about 2-3k miles in that time. Yes, I’ve put money in it but this thing is cherry and I’m hoping it lasts another 25-30 years. I absolutely love this car and use it to just run errands to keep miles off of our other vehicles.
