This video shows how to replace a door lock actuator on your car or truck. The truck shown in this video is a 1990 Ford Bronco, this repair will apply to any Ford truck from years 1980-1996, and will be very similar to other Ford vehicles from Mustangs to Crown Vics.

Can't thank you enough for this video. I'm working on my 1990 XLT and have been fighting with my driver's side lock actuator for months! This is exactly the information I needed!
I've tried.. someone fixed it already and now I can't do anything but take the door panel off lol... Hardest thing I've had to try on any vehicle.. I can get a car to pass smog but can't get a door actuator out lol
NVM once I thanks the screw.. easiest thing ever.. Watched so many videos of people cutting things..as I say all the time, it went in somehow, it will come out. 🤣

You do not need to drill it out. If careful just remove actuator from bracket

WOW. Cannot thank you enough. Finally understand what I need to do to get my 87 F150 pass. door repaired, altho mine doesn't have NEAR as much working room as you do. My daughter is currently working on the lock. I have more 'Fun' ahead of me getting the window working & replace the door lock.

Nice truck, if your fuel pump is bad you may have to convert to the new style pump assembly. Some kits will come with the pigtail that will need to be spliced into the factory harness, instructions are included with the pigtail.
@@TheFixTech Did you make a video by chance when you changed yours. I'm wondering if I should also change the gas line or at least the new adapters. Nervous to take everything apart and have bad surprises or bad parts. You know what I mean

Thanks for the video, It helped me out quite a bit! I found out that you don't actually have to drill out the rivet, though. You can just take it out of its bracket and put it back in that way, and it will still have its original rivet in it. Once again, thanks for the video!
Good job, I’ve tried a couple times to do it that way but always seemed to snap the plastic housing.
After trying and trying I have deduced you are full of it

I did this replacement just now on a 91’ and didn’t have to drill out the rivet. I popped it out and popped the new one in the old bracket. You just gotta have finesse and not be a caveman about it.

Thanks for this! I had to replace the door mechanism in my 97 F350 and the E locks had me stumped. I did buy the actuator you recommended, but the 97 electrical female plug configuration is lightly different than the Ford plug so I put the Ford one back in. I have it for the future, and will track down a male plug for it if I need to put it in. Thanks again!
Automotive glass repair shops have the rivets . We use them for the rivets in my body shop . FYI that's a amazing bronco 👍 we don't see many of them here in port colborne Canada

This repair is well worth if for the protection of your Bronco! I chose to use the screw repair method, but have links in the description for the correct Rivet.
Well you made that look easy . I have an 86 bull nose Bronco that must have been ragged out by some kids . its a mess just to get things to work much less look good like yours . You do good work , really like watching you work . Be safe .
Thanks for the support. The bull nose is my favorite body style, the interior can be hard to source quality original parts. I have a few more videos planned. It is fun working on these trucks, and you can still find a decent amount of parts at local salvage yards (since these trucks share the platform with the f150).
I've got an 86 bullnose as well. I just ordered 2 new actuators and mounted them. But, they don't seem to function properly at all. I had to take them back out to even lock my doors. Do you have a link to the ones you used in this video?

I got an 86 bronco with manual locks and windows but im looking into updating it to PowerLocking, it seems simple
I've found that most of the camper top or RV or body shops will have the larger head rivets on hand,,sometimes you can get them thru NAPA.

If the actuator pops out of the white housing, why worry about drilling through the rivet? Unless the housing is broken then it seems like you can skip that step? Great video though! Very helpful!

Pull up on the door handle like opening up the door and it's easier than playing with it

This is a great video and looks like this is just what I might need. Someone let me know if I am in the right ball park but I think mine are bad. They previously worked, I replaced both switched for passenger and driver side 9 months ago. No issues, recently I've noticed that the Lock or Unlock function sometimes does not work. I can hear noise from the door, and I also notice I am getting a voltage spike on the dash cluster but the locks still do not engage? Is the actuator going bad or is it possible something else?
Sounds like a bad actuator, both of mine went bad at the same time as well.
@TheFixTech yea I already bought the stuff to fix them just need some time. I did realize that they seemed to work and I toggled on and off maybe 5 times before they stopped working again. Seems very intermittent. I hope replacing them fixes my issues, huge thanks to your video!
is the key supposed to unlock all the doors as well, or just the auto locks?
I installed my new actuator, but it doesn't move the mechanism enough to lock it with the switch. I can still manually lock and unlock with the key from the outside but it seems like maybe the linkage for the manual lock-unlock is interfering with the new linkage from the new actuator? I did notice the bend on the new actuator rod is not as sharp of a 90°, it's more gradual. Perhaps I'll try affixing the old rod onto my new actuator
Replacement actuator from Bronco Graveyard requires that you swap the rod. Bought pin removal kit and pin will not come out. Any suggestions?
How do you keep the rod from spinning. Spinning moved the actuator arm up and down, but the assembly keeps it from spinning. Not sure
What size bolt did you use?
Did u replace ur door panels or are those the originals on ur bronco

I’ve tried everything on my 85 xlt I can get it to lock and unlock but after driving it a few miles it stops working and idk why does anyone know if it’s possible to put the none powered locks on it in place of the powered ones?
Yes, you can swap out the actuator motor for the manual linkage. Best bet would be from a salvage yard, get the whole mechanism and use what you need.
How did it go? If you pull the actuator on my 91 f350 you can easily use the locks manually. Not sure how it is on bronco though.
why not just pry the old actuator out ? that way you wont have to drill the rivet out?
