Perhaps explaining some confusion for anyone reading this, it is also worth noting Andy Le (yes the guy shown, no not spelled lee) was indeed also involved in this film, as he plays the masked antagonist Death Dealer, contributing his own distinct style to his scenes. @@TheAdventuresofMightyThor not at all lol. Second place behind shang chi for sure, but go back rn and compare any two fight scenes from either movie. TWS made a lot of improvements over typical action sequences in previous Marvel and Hollywood movies, such as improved choreography and movement, and a more talented/experienced stunt team, but it also suffers from some of the biggest mistakes that dragged previous films down. Shots cutting before the impact of a hit, and then stitching into a shot after the hit has landed is one of the big ones. It causes strikes to lose a ton of force on camera because the actual impact is never shown or felt. If a shot didn't cut the impact out in TWS, then it suffered from shakey cam to hide the softer impacts of the choreography, resulting in very light hits. Shang chi, on the other hand, for many of the fight scenes at least, kept long shots for not just one, but multiple hit impacts AND kept a much more stabilized shot from the camera. The stunt team on this was so incredibly talented. The hits felt impactful and were usually strung together in comparatively long sequences between cuts, all while keeping the camera stabilized in motion. I think it was actually this Corridor channel themselves that did a breakdown of this exact thing a while back which i recommend, where they discussed why Hollywood (and they used Marvel shots as examples) suffered from usually less fluid and impactful martial arts action when compared to specifically Hong Kong action sequences. Definitely worth checking out.
Once I saw that bus sequence in theatres, I immediately knew that the fights scenes in this movie were gonna blow away the typical quick-cutting Hollywood style fights we see in a lot of Marvel movies

Fun fact: The late & great Brad Allan was the stunt coordinator before he passed away, he was the guy that fought Jackie Chan in the movie Gorgeous, the guy who tosses Jackie mma gloves, the guy was legit af, he brought some of that old Hong Kong style fight choreography and it showed.
That bus scene was easily one of the best in the MCU. It was a nice change from the typical fights scenes made up of 90% cut scenes. Also, the way it incorporated the terrain really brought it to another level.

I love how you give these professionals the platform to come and cheer their work that is mostly hardly given the credit.. in the 2 years I've been following this series though, I noticed that VFX and CGI people are have started being recognized as the magicians they are
My respect for the entire VFX artist and team has increased so much just by understanding how much effort they put in to there work and enhance the story telling experience for us.
Hey can you check out the Ryan vs Dorkman lightsaber duel videos? I feel like for back then they were visually WAY ahead of any other star wars film and I can't remember how many times I would guilty binge them over and over when I was little
Gosh this brings back old times. Yet aside from compression these still hold up amazing today, and somehow they make the wacky jedi style actually flow as if it were a real technique, even more than what they attempted in the canon films
I love that bus fight sequence! I grew up on all of those Jackie Chan Hong Kong action movies, and I'm SO happy to see that cinematic style more in the Marvel universe.
It's super disingenuous. This is an absolute puff piece. Some of the CGI was good, but some of the CGI was a heavy contender for worst CGI in the entire world universe. How do you mess up that bad? The very opening car crash in the bamboo forest looked worse than anything in the entirety of Black Panther and they don't even give it a mention. I mean look how far into the movie this video starts. The bus scene? Nothing they wanted to discuss that happened prior to that?
I love that you asked about getting into this kind of job because _this_ - specifically marvel movie cgi - is everything I want to do in life when I get older. I love watching these videos because it's so cool to take a deep dive into movie cgi/vfx and see how things are done. Sometimes I look at it and think oh my gosh that would take me forever but the pay off is just so good and I'm really excited about all this. Especially recently because I got into my dream college in Florida.
Shang Chi is by far my favorite Marvel movie. The choreographed fights, the CGI, the story, it’s all there! I love it. I love that they brought Michelle Yeoh in as well. She’s amazing, and for most of her career she does her own stunts!
Yeah this would truly be interesting, most of these new movies are just 90% cgi so in all honesty not too exciting since they could have made the scene anything. Classic effects are way more complex and creative.
I like how you guys only covered the mostly good CG shots of the movie and never tackled the bad ones, there were a lot in some scenes! It's called bad & great, not just great!
@@rinkyylabzz4741 Yeah, I see where you are coming from, for sure. They have asked people directly involved in the past though about some shots like the episodes about some scenes in 'The Mummy', I think there are some tasteful ways to ask what went wrong. I would have have loved to know why, especially considering how some shots are so fantastic in comparison!
They were most likely *paid* to film this episode by Disney or whatever PR company handles Disney. There's 0 chance of ANY negativity in that case, even if it's subjective or objective. Every other episode that clearly focuses on a specific film ALWAYS has some average cgi they talk about. But here? Nothing but it's amazing and so good.
I think that they just showed the scene that appeared in trailers to avoid spoilers since the movie is still showing in cinemas. There might be another reaction from this movie with another scenes after the movie ended its run in cinemas.
As soon as Dune comes out, you need to compare it to the old one, PLEASE!! There are SO MANY fascinating visual scenes in both movies that are done in such different ways, and I CAN’T WAIT to see you dive into how both were done!
They do, sure, but they then replace everything with CGI, Iron Man's suit in IM1 and 2 looks amazing by today's standard, then we have Civil War and the shitshow that is the CGI in that movie. Iron Man, War Machine, Black Panther and Spider-Man look horrendous in it.
My favorite thing about the VFX Artists React series is that the hosts are in the same profession as the guests, so it gives so much more meaning to when they say that something is amazing or ridiculous because it's coming from a place of knowledge and experience. There are awesome hosts and interviewers who do a good job in translating a guest's experience to the audience but it really is different when the host is actually part of that community. On top of that, as a viewer and subscriber, I'm aware of Corridor's work so I have something to gauge against when they say something is amazing because I have seen what they can do AND usually the behind-the-scenes of how they made it. It really elevates this series so much in not only explaining how things were done but why they were good (or bad) and also as an entertaining piece by itself.
Thanx for reacting to “Shang-Chi”! I liked the part where you guess how it was done in front of the creator. If you did that once per episode, I think it’d be fun!
Bro this is my favourite marvel film. It just hit me in the heart like a truck. Its story, characters, and their motives were perfect and i love the ten rings. Its such an amazing weapon being so versatile and just fills the void for phenomenonal choreography. And yknow what i might watch it again its only been a week. I cant watch the same movie in half a year but this is too good
This video is marking a pivoting point for this series. Before Shang-Chi comes home with the full Blu-Ray treatment and all the extras we love, we have gotten an essential behind-the-scenes look experience for the film. If y’all keep doing this, expect people to take notice.
I loved the movie, although I do kinda want to know more about that one shot where Shang-Chi hits the lake. That was the only shot that stood out in a bad way, and felt really different from the rest of the movie.
13:30 "You have to be passionate." Translation: "You won't get ahead in this industry unless you dedicate your life to the craft, often working ridiculous hours and sacrificing social and family events." Yup, this is 100% accurate, especially in entertainment, technology, and medical fields.
This is exactly accurate, it's a problem thats plagued the industry. I already work in previs and postvis and one of main points that need to become clear to people thinking of getting into this vfx/previs industry is that these films could be interesting to work on but most of the time the schedule isn't set by someone who knows how long it takes. So it's just stress and exhaustion for what should be a well scheduled production. Right now 2 separate unions are getting ready to strike because of these conditions.
Oh, I'm not bitter. I dedicated years on my life to learning my craft, creating a couple of businesses around it, teaching, tutoring, speaking at conferences and professional groups. I pulled way back about 6-7 years ago, to give my attention to my family. Occupying a senior position seems more relaxing, because learning there things is easier when you have experience and wisdom. But, a lot of leadership and personal responsibility comes with the job.
@@Uub27 It's just the truth. If it sounds bitter to you, then it's just a reflection of how extreme and demanding the expectations the industry expects of people working in this field.
Great episode, love the breakdown. Did he cover the treasure cart flip scene and how they forgot to turn the environment effects, lighting and textures on? I watched that on screen and swore that was a pre-viz shot that someone forgot to update.
1:44 Andy Lee never worked with Chackie Chan, if I remember it right. He has a popular UA-cam channel called MartialClub, where they have been doing Chackie Chan style comedy for years. I'm glad that he managed to make the step into "professional" business
I would love to see you break down "Army of Darkness" 1994. The 3rd movie in the "Evil Dead" series. The mini Ashes in the windmill scene is really good and bad at the same time.
I've got an idea for a topic, audiences or everyday people react to good and bad VFX, to see if people are smart enough to know what's looks fake and what's real, what's looks like it's been done on a computer vs a real practical effect.
After talking a little bit about this film coming out on Disney plus and rewatching this episode I realize that it's one of the most intricate videos on a movie you made so far! Super interesting and makes me even appreciate it more watching it a second time! Hope you can invite him more often in the future!
The unfortunate reality of the phrase “you need to be passionate, or you won’t survive”, is that it means you need to be willing to break your heart for the work for nothing in return. It’s passion for what you’re working on being the only thing that makes you willing to suffer through the exhaustion
I work in the previs/vfx industry now and between unspoken outsourcing, poor scheduling and classifying 90% of the workers as freelance/gig workers I wouldn't recommend anyone getting into this part of the industry right now

Star Trek TOS (the enemy within and other times there were two Kirk's) and Stargate same actor two people Door monster self fulfilling idiocy 2 Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy Also, please do Stargate (SG-1) as a whole, the show was amazing and had since pretty good effects and stunts, in particular I should like you to try to work out how they did the Stargate lighting (you've now done the kawoosh but this is kinda funny). And the really, really good effects (for the time in Atlantis, including the episode epiphany with a semi-transparent creature which Shephard jumps on). Further there is a great stunt in the Stargate Atlantis episode Vegas, with someone falling off a building and a good stunt in Sateda. For animators react do the Bad Batch especially, but also the other animated Star Wars shows (perhaps compare)
I don't know who actually did the shots, but the interstellar refrigerator time machine shots from Julian Smith's "Back Then" still capture my imagination to this day. It's all relatively simple stuff, but it's done in such a way that feels like it came right out of a feature film.
I wonder how hard you guys rack your brains to think of creative ways to do the sponsored segments to make them rarely ever boring. This one was hilarious.
You could do an entire video on the movie Twister from 1996, but I'd like to see a reaction specifically to the scene where they drive through the upside-down house! I think ya'll would have a lot of fun going over that scene!

Not an honest mistake. More & more lately they're focused on asking you to sub & continue to make more simple mistakes that viewers call them out on, rather than spend a little more attention to detail.
Knowing that the bamboo scaffolding scene was an homage to many Jackie Chan movies (Rush Hour 2 wasn't the first one with crazy bamboo scaffolding tricks), it does make me wonder if they really could have done that whole scene practically? But of course on a much smaller building closer to the ground. The hardest part would of course be the building's reflections, hiding the camera and crew and whatnot.

Listening to people talking about something they're passionate about in a good way is so satisfying :)
Hey can you check out the Ryan vs Dorkman lightsaber duel videos? I feel like for back then they were visually WAY ahead of any other star wars film and I can't remember how many times I would guilty binge them over and over when I was little
Hello there! Love your videos!!
I totally agreed those vids really bring me back to the old days hearing those names.
Yes please. I loved those so much as a kid
Yes, this
Gosh this brings back old times.
The title mentions bad CGI but none appears in the video. I wanna see them talk about the really janky cliff shot at the beginning of the movie.
they boxed themselves to only rain praise on the effects by inviting the guy in charge of the effects, lol
Shang-Chi has become one of my favorite movies of all time up next to Ip Man, Dr. Strange, A Beautiful Mind, and Good Will Hunting
It's amazing to see how people can make these scenes! It's absolutely insane how far VFX has come since the very early days of Hollywood.
The VFX and stuntmen react are by far the best videos on your channel.
Hey man congratulations
Thank you!
The ending sequence with the dragon is pretty cool but I’m Ngl at the end of the movie I was like “yea but that bus scene tho 👀” lol
The lions and dragons were crazzzyyy!! I was in awe
Hey! Please consider doing a VFX artist react special episode on James Bond intros and how they evolved over time.
That be cool!
Remember some of the earlier once being quite impressive considering the options of that time.
Shang Chi is by far my favorite Marvel movie. The choreographed fights, the CGI, the story, it’s all there! I love it. I love that they brought Michelle Yeoh in as well. She’s amazing, and for most of her career she does her own stunts!
Okay, the latest VFX react vids are so cool. Y’all got like the BIGGEST people in the game rn.
I’m so happy they did an episode about Shang-Chi! Amazing seeing all this stuff coming together.
Please do a VFX artists’ reaction video to Aliens (by James Cameron): some of the best old-school effects ever captured on film!
You can't say bad things about MCU, internet rule
It would be a little disrespectful to the guest , especially since he worked on it .
The bus sequence with that song at full volume on theaters, I can't describe the experience
they edited the bus scene for a year and a half!! 🔥 appreciate those guys who do these!
As soon as Dune comes out, you need to compare it to the old one, PLEASE!! There are SO MANY fascinating visual scenes in both movies that are done in such different ways, and I CAN’T WAIT to see you dive into how both were done!
"We shoot as much real as we possibly can."
Me: Thank you.
7:04 I actually was like "bruh no way Shang Chi just killed all of those people" while watching the movie and no one else was bothered by it
That bus sequence was top notch not by Marvel standards but by classic martial arts movies and action movies in general
This movie was great to see in theaters after all that isolation
You need to get out more.
@@DavidLopez-qi8hb Did you forget people couldn't go out in some places for the past year and a half?
Way better movies came out before this.
@@DavidLopez-qi8hb the movies I've seen in theaters in the past 2 years have been shang chi, black widow, and tenet so...
Theres a pandemic for 2 years and this dude says "you need to get out more" lol okay bud
If y’all keep doing this, expect people to take notice.
a breakdown of oats studios-Zygote would be really cool. The asset is even available to use or poke at
Dude, THIS.
Why so bitter lmao.
@6:27 You'll notice Razors weapon goes right through the pole in the bus. Thought that may have been a dead giveaway that it was CG.
shoutout to all the roto artists who did all that painstaking reflections, blurs, greenscreens, whatever, mad respect for them.
His name is Jackie Chan not Chackie
Chicka-chicka-Chackie Chan in the houssssse.
And it’s Andy Le
Not Lee
He and his brother did get to meet a Jackie Chan a few years ago, I think. But they’ve never directly worked with him
It is Andy Le and Jackie Chan, and it takes literally 2 seconds to research. Smh 😑 ua-cam.com/video/jmH9p2djlPQ/v-deo.html
Andy Le played Death Dealer also
I would love to see you break down "Army of Darkness" 1994. The 3rd movie in the "Evil Dead" series. The mini Ashes in the windmill scene is really good and bad at the same time.
I love to see them break down the RV fight scene in kill Bill vol 2.
There is so much more in this movie we need a part 2
I may not love most superhero films, but the insane amount of work and problem solving by thousands of people that goes into them is stunning.
I've got an idea for a topic, audiences or everyday people react to good and bad VFX, to see if people are smart enough to know what's looks fake and what's real, what's looks like it's been done on a computer vs a real practical effect.
I love it when you can get in people that worked on the film. Awesome video!
After talking a little bit about this film coming out on Disney plus and rewatching this episode I realize that it's one of the most intricate videos on a movie you made so far! Super interesting and makes me even appreciate it more watching it a second time! Hope you can invite him more often in the future!
You guys should react to "K/DA - Villain" - it's definitely the most interesting and well made music video in terms of CGI and cinematography
You guys should take a look at Master and Commander, Far side of the world. I bet you would enjoy the effects in that film
This episode is probably one of the best episodes they have ever done! 💯
The unfortunate reality of the phrase “you need to be passionate, or you won’t survive”, is that it means you need to be willing to break your heart for the work for nothing in return. It’s passion for what you’re working on being the only thing that makes you willing to suffer through the exhaustion
I work in the previs/vfx industry now and between unspoken outsourcing, poor scheduling and classifying 90% of the workers as freelance/gig workers I wouldn't recommend anyone getting into this part of the industry right now
Please do:
Stargate Continuum: especially the F-15 flying shots and those of the ship and arctic (basically do the movie, it is amazing!)
Star Trek TOS (the enemy within and other times there were two Kirk's) and Stargate same actor two people
Door monster self fulfilling idiocy 2
Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy
Also, please do Stargate (SG-1) as a whole, the show was amazing and had since pretty good effects and stunts, in particular I should like you to try to work out how they did the Stargate lighting (you've now done the kawoosh but this is kinda funny).
This sounds great!
They should do an entire Stargate series.
@@gabor6259 absolutely.
I really wish you guys talked more about the climax of the movie, with the big battle and the dragon. It was such a cool part of the movie
I can’t be the only one who thinks the color grading in this movie looks a little off? It’s sort of …grey
You credited the wrong Andy as the fight coordinator. It should be Andy Cheng* (the guy holding the phone @ 00:01:40); and it's Andy LE, not Andy Lee. Honest mistake, I hope.
*Art of Action interview: ua-cam.com/video/slY2uJJZQKE/v-deo.html
Not an honest mistake. More & more lately they're focused on asking you to sub & continue to make more simple mistakes that viewers call them out on, rather than spend a little more attention to detail.
you want youtube videos? freaking review Buttered Side Down, I've been asking y'all multiple times and I will keep asking until you finally do it
how does this only have 2 likes it’s funny comment man that’s everywhere

The Shang-Chi bamboo scaffolding was a terrifying experience for me.

I love how Corridor Crew has become well known in the industry and you guys are just chilling with the pros from Hollywood now.
Have you done a video on all the practical VFX shots in the Evil Dead trilogy of films?? The first film in particular is frankly incredible, considering their budget and limitations. As I’m sure you know.
I’d be really interested in some bond movies being looked at.
I'm so proud of Martial Club, I just kinda watched them because I thought they were dude bros making martial arts videos but lately they're really breaking out
As someone who watched Jackie Chan's movies growing up, I got giddy in the movie threatre when he started using his jacket and saw how he moved around the bus!!! I knew it felt familiar!!!
TBH i fell in love with SHANG-CHI from the bus sequence 🔥
"Dont get into it if you are really passionate, other wise you wont survive." This sort of advise is way better than "you can do it."
Wait what? I think you meant to say “don’t get into it unless you’re very passionate, other wise you won’t survive if you’re not”
it’s Andy Le, not Lee
he’s one of the brothers that run the Martial Club channel on UA-cam
great channel if you want to check out martial arts short films
A collaboration between Martial Club and Corridor would be pretty cool
Fight on the side of the building was my favorite
The helicopter "virtual camera" story made this video for me. More details like that in future, please!
I worked on shang-chi previs at The Third Floor. One of the funnest shows I"ve worked of so far. Also, first film with my name in the credits.
