It's weird to think that she hulk, the comic character, was originally created to prevent a rights issue if The Incredible Hulk TV show made a female hulk character that marvel then wouldn't own, and is now being used to put out hulk material marvel doesn't have the rights to yet.
Nobody but Marvel has the rights to the Hulk.....The only thing Universal has is a right of first refusal on distribution of a movie....All Disney would have to do is ask Universal IF they were interested in distributing a Hulk movie, IF Universal said no than Disney would be free to distribute the movie on their own. But because there have been 2 Hulk movies that flopped Disney doesn't want any pennies if they can't have all the pennies.

At first, The Incredible Hulk got made because Marvel Studios needed a second movie, so they negociated to get the rights back a year later and, as they were partened up with Paramount before the Disney merger, there was no issue really. Disney enters the picture and as they aren't willing to share until the rights revert back, they screwed Hulk fans over.

If this is true, then the hulk's distribution rights will go back to marvel in 2023. Something must be up since marvel were not allowed to use hulk at disney land but now they can.
Rom Space Knight is responsible for Rogue joining the X-men. She started out as a villain in the comics, but became good after using her powers to read his mind and see what a hero he was. Crazy that such a defining part of a major character was all because she met Rom, who was made to sell toys and can’t even be used by Marvel anymore!

Was born in '70 and was a huge collector of The Micronauts, ROM Space Knight, Krull, Conan, Spider Man, X-Men, Ice Man, Alpha Flight .........the good days of comics.
The first 12 issues of "The Micronauts" (1979) is one of the finest comic book stories of all time. The art and story meshed so well. "ROM" is the only title from back then that I read completely, all 75 issues. It was very good throughout it's run. Micronauts had a spectacular, mind-blowing first year, but after that it lost its inspiration.
I loved the Micronauts toys long before the comic was released and when I saw the comics I was initially annoyed at the many changes Marvel had made to the characters. However, the character Marionette was one of those changes. Marionette was the only major female character, she was hot and scantily clad, and I was going thru puberty at the time, so I kept buying the comics. In time I realized the character changes were improvements and the story was indeed top notch. Marvel changed so much about the original Mego characters they were almost unrecognizable, which makes me wonder how well the merchandising worked especially since it wasn’t long after Mego went belly up. The original Mego Micronaut, Space Glider became Arcturus. Galactic Warrior became Bug. Acroyear switched sides becoming a Micronaut although the toy was billed as “enemy of the Micronauts”. And Time Traveller turned into an omniscient demigod of the cosmos. But it was Marionette, in her golden one piece and butterfly mask that kept me around to see how much better the characters were done and there was no toy of her. Did they make one of her later?

I learned a fun thing… the working title for the original avengers movie was “blue harvest” but they could not get the rights for it because the license was still under Lucas Arts.

A minor one but in universe x a human rom trapped in limbo (literally hell)not only survived for what one can only assume was years with only his chest plate as a shield and his neutralizer. After Mar-vell and captain America provided him a way out he returned the favor by giving them the only way to end the hydra parasite.

Marvel has the rights to Shuma-Gorath. They just don't have the rights to that name. That's why in _Multiverse of Madness_ Marvel kept the Shuma-Gorath look but just gave it the Gargantos name for legal purposes
Something I think is interesting is that a lot of those third-party characters are still technically canon to the Marvel Universe in the comics. They just legally can’t show up in-panel anymore. The events of the Godzilla comics are canon, ROM, Micronauts, it’s all still there. Just off-screen.

Apple TV and Legendary Pictures is releasing a Godzilla TV series next year based in the same universe as the Monsterverse movies Skull Island and and Godzilla vs Kong. It is about Godzilla fighting the various titans. Currently filming in Vancouver. Should wrap by the end of the year.

Rom Space Knight was my first comic! I had several issues my dad (very strange for an Irish brick layer with no interest in such things) had brought on a visit to Chicago in the early 80's before i was born and i found them years later.
Rom Space Knight comics and Eternals comics were always the ones you could find at church garage sales as a kid. My guess is that people who donated them wanted to keep comics from more established heroes, so those are the ones we could get like 20 for a quarter. I had a ton of Rom Space Knight comics as result.

Spider-Man, Hulk, Luke Cage/Iron Fist, Shogun Warriors, Micronauts and ROM Space Knight. Later, I found that my uncle collected Micronauts toys and we found a used Baron Karza at a garage sale.
I think theres a misunderstanding here, they can use those X-Men actors up until that date NOT that Disney HAVE to use them. Those contracts work the opposite way, the studio has carte blanche to recast if they want. It’s like a contract for 6 appearances, the actor is obligated to show up that many times but the studio doesn’t have to use them. Also the Hulk distribution is with Universal NOT Paramount.
Are you sure there's not a penalty for recasting? Depending on the actor, the way a lot of these things work is that is they're paid X amount whether they are used or not, and may get some kind of severance buyout if they are replaced

In general an entire cast being contracted the way this describes is not weighted towards actors demanding that only they can play a role. Hollywood does not do that on any film. Can an A list actor demand a pay or play deal? (I perform the role or you pay my salary) Most definitely. But not for the cast of an entire production of X films. Thats untenable AF. A few actor contracts are not going to keep them from exploiting a massive IP if they want to.
They never actually used the code name Quicksilver in Avenger’s Age of Ultron. He was just Pietro. So technically they could still call him Quicksilver. And they can use "The Microverse". That actually predates Bill Mantlo's Micronauts. The Microverse was a Fantastic Four realm. The home of the Psycho Man. Some settings from the Microverse, those specific to the Micronauts are off limits. Mainly Homeworld, Acroyer and Kaliklak. Also The Prometheus Pit and the specific Time Traveler characters. Bug falls into a grey area. With Bug Marvel is still allowed to use him in the comics, because Bug really took nothing from the Galactic Warrier toy beyond being green. But they can't merchandise him or use him in media. Similarly Marvel comics can still use Arcturus Rann and Marionette. But not Acroyer, Biotron or Microtron.
Yeah, in _Age of Ultron_ the twins were calling themselves Pietro and Wanda Maximoff the whole time. "Scarlet Witch" came later. But then they killed Pietro off in AoU, for reasons I don't get, because a speedster is powerful, yes, but compared to other overpowered characters in the MCU now? He was only "Quicksilver" in the _X-Men_ movies, in both the old timeline and the alternate prequel timeline., where oddly enough Wanda doesnt exit. But not only did the MCU cast a different actor for Pietro/Quicksilver than in _X-Men,_ the MCU versions of Pietro and Wanda are literally different people: different birthplace & backstory, different parents, not the children of Magneto/Erik Magnus Lensherr, and born far closer to/in the 21st century as opposed to the children of WW2-survivor Magneto.
While he was called Pietro on film, he's listed as Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver in _Avengers: Age of Ultron_ also Peyton Reed did state that MCU uses "Quantum Realm" because they could not secure the rights to the Microverse name. Although if what you're saying is true, that means they couldn't use it because of FOX. But now that they've boughr FOX...

For the Hulk, Mark Ruffalo's age is beginning to seem a little strange given it feels like so little has been done with him. This doesnt change much for Banner, but it will be a little weird to see a grey-haired hulk, apparently starting his solo career running around on battlefields. A good workaround could be that if the original hulk personality, or a new one, reasserts itself, the hulk (not banner) appears younger due to using Jennifer's cells to treat his arm.
I had a ROM Space Knight toy when I was a kid! Battery-powered red lights through his eyes. I used him with He-Man and Transformers all the time. Not my Joes, though.
At the time, before the buyout of Fox, Disney and Fox both had a claim to the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver characters. The compromise was that the MCU could use one of them exclusively, while the other would be part of the Foxverse. That's why Pietro was killed off in Age of Ultron.
Ryan Rynolds' DP never was officially part of Fox's X-Men film continuity. Just look at his versions of Colossus and Juggernaut compared to the X-Men's versions. DP is just in his own meta continuity.
Btw one of the most interesting continuity lockouts is Fu Manchu. Marvel licensed the literary character to be father of Shang-Chi, their first Asian title character, but the death of the Kung-Fu craze, the demands from the Rohmer estate, and probably that the character is a big old racist stereotype, for a while they killed him off (and when he was resurrected, was given a different name and a skull mask). For the movies they made the (kind of) Mandarin his father, something a lot of people wondered why they didn't in the first place.
Which is funny because comic-Mandarin was an even bigger racist stereotype, what with him debuting during the "Yellow Scare" surrounding China's shift to authoritarian Communism in the 50s.

I haven't thought about Death's Head in 30 years. Did you know that originally he was scaled like a Transformer but after a meeting with seventh Doctor ( Dr Who ) he got shrunk down to person-size where afterwards he just carried on his work as as a bounty hunter but for humanoids rather than giant robots, its a pretty wild ride! So would that mean that the BBC would also have some control over him or just Marvel as it happened in the Dr Who comic that they licensed?

ROM had some of the best stories with the Transformers when IDW did their big Hasbro Universe. Check out Shining Armour! Also the transformers universe was pretty wicked with IDW before the reboot.
You mentioned Godzilla but no mention of Red Ronin which leads to Shogun Warriors which is also an IP they can't use . I'd love to see the Micronauts done Baron Karzaa is an AMAZING villain.
Yeah I had the Shogun Warrior comics. Odd how they didnt use Great Mazinger, Getter Robo G or Gaiking.which were popular Shogun Warriors toys at the time. Instead they used Brave Raideen, Combattler V and Leie Matsumoto's Danguard Ace. Maybe they were cheaper to license I dunno...

He had groups like the PTA go after him for introducing "eroticism to children" 🙄not long before the comic came out so they most likely saw his work as a bit of a poison pill, Or he just didn't want them to soften the IP with a distinctly western re-iteration.

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds LITERALLY just posted 2 videos stating that Hugh WILL be playing Wolverine in Deadpool 3! Also, Spiderman has been in several MCU movies and Sony already did a Miles Morales Spiderman film (which is gearing up for a sequel). As far as Namor is concerned, he's primarily a Fantastic Four villain (as far as Marvel is concerned) because he always had a crush on Sue Richards. He's spent most of his time in Marvel fighting the Fantastic Four. So, he was part of the whole Fox thing. Marvel also did a Micronauts comic at one point. BUT.... The Micronauts were a continuation of a toy called Micro Men. Micro Men became Micronauts and THEN became THE TRANSFORMERS! So that's a HUGE mess. And, lastly, Marvel did do an amazing What If? story that was 'What If Thor fought Conan?'. Conan found himself in modern times, crossed paths with Thor and found himself a cache of military grade weapons and proceeded to unleash on Thor while duel wielding assault rifles. Of course, he didn't do a lot of damage, but it might have been his greatest moment.
Somewhere, I have about 60 or so ROM comic books. I was fascinated by the Dire Wraiths & just got it in my head that this comic line would be worth money, in the future. I think the whole run was less than 75 issues. It was corny & not particularly well drawn, in the beginning but at the end it was exciting.
@@chrissullivan6572 It’s not that expensive for back issues, unfortunately they can’t issue Marvel Rom in a trade collection due to licensing. If you like tokusatsu, Marvel also did a short Godzilla series and a Shogun Warriors book back in the day as well.
I think the reason Namor went back is that they never made a Sub-Mariner movie. Because they made a Hulk movie, it reset the expiration date on their rights. Remember that Marvel has continued to publish stuff with the SpaceKnight characters besides Rom. His wife and kids had a mini series, but they couldn't name their dad.
I would definitely like to see a Death's Head and Death's Head II (Minion) movie series, they were something I remember from my youth and believe they could prove interesting. In the same note, I remember finding the Ropm comics and loved them, He and his genre would definitely be cartoon worthy at the very least!

The MCU started with not so known characters, they can start the x-men with not so known mutants, just use James McAvoy as professor X and that's it
They could use the exiles, as characters that traveled from the fox-men universe. They then have an exuse to use some of the actors from te fox-men (preferably ones that could use another chance at the character, like rogue, psylocke, jubilee, havok), and a story-reason to bring over deadpool.
Namor actually predates marvel and Timely. He premiered in motion picture funnies weekly, a pamphlet promotion concept for theater patrons. his first appearance was reprinted in marvel comics number 1 by Timely later.
I enjoy whenever we're discussing anything 90s like micronauts and rom the space knight even if i don't remember these specific characters it's always fun to see the old shots of the old commercials and whatnot while the two aussies wax poetically.
Micronauts main hero was Acroyear. He had a real helmet and he was a bald black guy. Baron Karza was the main villain and he looked like a cross between Mazinger Z, Darth Vader, Hakaider, Magneto, Doctor Doom and the Beyonder.

However, the character Marionette was one of those changes. Marionette was the only major female character, she was hot and scantily clad, and I was going thru puberty at the time, so I kept buying the comics. In time I realized the character changes were improvements and the story was indeed top notch. Marvel changed so much about the original Mego characters they were almost unrecognizable, which makes me wonder how well the merchandising worked especially since it wasn’t long after Mego went belly up. The original Mego Micronaut, Space Glider became Arcturus. Galactic Warrior became Bug. Acroyear switched sides becoming a Micronaut although the toy was billed as “enemy of the Micronauts”. And Time Traveller turned into an omniscient demigod of the cosmos. But it was Marionette, in her golden one piece and butterfly mask that kept me around to see how much better the characters were done and there was no toy of her. Did they make one of her later?

A minor one but in universe x a human rom trapped in limbo (literally hell)not only survived for what one can only assume was years with only his chest plate as a shield and his neutralizer.

Marvel has the rights to Shuma-Gorath. They just don't have the rights to that name. That's why in _Multiverse of Madness_ Marvel kept the Shuma-Gorath look but just gave it the Gargantos name for legal purposes

Something I think is interesting is that a lot of those third-party characters are still technically canon to the Marvel Universe in the comics. They just legally can’t show up in-panel anymore. The events of the Godzilla comics are canon, ROM, Micronauts, it’s all still there. Just off-screen.

Rom Space Knight was my first comic! I had several issues my dad (very strange for an Irish brick layer with no interest in such things) had brought on a visit to Chicago in the early 80's before i was born and i found them years later.
Rom Space Knight comics and Eternals comics were always the ones you could find at church garage sales as a kid. My guess is that people who donated them wanted to keep comics from more established heroes, so those are the ones we could get like 20 for a quarter. I had a ton of Rom Space Knight comics as result.

I think theres a misunderstanding here, they can use those X-Men actors up until that date NOT that Disney HAVE to use them. Those contracts work the opposite way, the studio has carte blanche to recast if they want. It’s like a contract for 6 appearances, the actor is obligated to show up that many times but the studio doesn’t have to use them. Also the Hulk distribution is with Universal NOT Paramount.

Depending on the actor, the way a lot of these things work is that is they're paid X amount whether they are used or not, and may get some kind of severance buyout if they are replaced

In general an entire cast being contracted the way this describes is not weighted towards actors demanding that only they can play a role. Hollywood does not do that on any film. Can an A list actor demand a pay or play deal? (I perform the role or you pay my salary) Most definitely. But not for the cast of an entire production of X films. Thats untenable AF. A few actor contracts are not going to keep them from exploiting a massive IP if they want to.

They never actually used the code name Quicksilver in Avenger’s Age of Ultron. He was just Pietro. So technically they could still call him Quicksilver. And they can use "The Microverse". That actually predates Bill Mantlo's Micronauts. The Microverse was a Fantastic Four realm. The home of the Psycho Man. Some settings from the Microverse, those specific to the Micronauts are off limits. Mainly Homeworld, Acroyer and Kaliklak. Also The Prometheus Pit and the specific Time Traveler characters. Bug falls into a grey area. With Bug Marvel is still allowed to use him in the comics, because Bug really took nothing from the Galactic Warrier toy beyond being green. But they can't merchandise him or use him in media. Similarly Marvel comics can still use Arcturus Rann and Marionette. But not Acroyer, Biotron or Microtron.

Yeah, in _Age of Ultron_ the twins were calling themselves Pietro and Wanda Maximoff the whole time. "Scarlet Witch" came later. But then they killed Pietro off in AoU, for reasons I don't get, because a speedster is powerful, yes, but compared to other overpowered characters in the MCU now? He was only "Quicksilver" in the _X-Men_ movies, in both the old timeline and the alternate prequel timeline., where oddly enough Wanda doesnt exit. But not only did the MCU cast a different actor for Pietro/Quicksilver than in _X-Men,_ the MCU versions of Pietro and Wanda are literally different people: different birthplace & backstory, different parents, not the children of Magneto/Erik Magnus Lensherr, and born far closer to/in the 21st century as opposed to the children of WW2-survivor Magneto.
While he was called Pietro on film, he's listed as Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver in _Avengers: Age of Ultron_
also Peyton Reed did state that MCU uses "Quantum Realm" because they could not secure the rights to the Microverse name. Although if what you're saying is true, that means they couldn't use it because of FOX. But now that they've boughr FOX...

For the Hulk, Mark Ruffalo's age is beginning to seem a little strange given it feels like so little has been done with him. This doesnt change much for Banner, but it will be a little weird to see a grey-haired hulk, apparently starting his solo career running around on battlefields. A good workaround could be that if the original hulk personality, or a new one, reasserts itself, the hulk (not banner) appears younger due to using Jennifer's cells to treat his arm.

At the time, before the buyout of Fox, Disney and Fox both had a claim to the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver characters. The compromise was that the MCU could use one of them exclusively, while the other would be part of the Foxverse. That's why Pietro was killed off in Age of Ultron.
Ryan Rynolds' DP never was officially part of Fox's X-Men film continuity. Just look at his versions of Colossus and Juggernaut compared to the X-Men's versions. DP is just in his own meta continuity.

Btw one of the most interesting continuity lockouts is Fu Manchu. Marvel licensed the literary character to be father of Shang-Chi, their first Asian title character, but the death of the Kung-Fu craze, the demands from the Rohmer estate, and probably that the character is a big old racist stereotype, for a while they killed him off (and when he was resurrected, was given a different name and a skull mask). For the movies they made the (kind of) Mandarin his father, something a lot of people wondered why they didn't in the first place.
Which is funny because comic-Mandarin was an even bigger racist stereotype, what with him debuting during the "Yellow Scare" surrounding China's shift to authoritarian Communism in the 50s.

I picked up a Rom comic when I was a kid and there was a few panels of someone’s skin melting off and it terrified me. That’s the total extent of my Rom knowledge until this video.

I haven't thought about Death's Head in 30 years. Did you know that originally he was scaled like a Transformer but after a meeting with seventh Doctor ( Dr Who ) he got shrunk down to person-size where afterwards he just carried on his work as as a bounty hunter but for humanoids rather than giant robots, its a pretty wild ride! So would that mean that the BBC would also have some control over him or just Marvel as it happened in the Dr Who comic that they licensed?

Yeah I had the Shogun Warrior comics. Odd how they didnt use Great Mazinger, Getter Robo G or Gaiking.which were popular Shogun Warriors toys at the time. Instead they used Brave Raideen, Combattler V and Leie Matsumoto's Danguard Ace. Maybe they were cheaper to license I dunno...

If you've read his manga and even the anime his stories can be lewd and fairly violent not to mention just weird. He had groups like the PTA go after him for introducing "eroticism to children" 🙄not long before the comic came out so they most likely saw his work as a bit of a poison pill, Or he just didn't want them to soften the IP with a distinctly western re-iteration.

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds LITERALLY just posted 2 videos stating that Hugh WILL be playing Wolverine in Deadpool 3! Also, Spiderman has been in several MCU movies and Sony already did a Miles Morales Spiderman film (which is gearing up for a sequel). As far as Namor is concerned, he's primarily a Fantastic Four villain (as far as Marvel is concerned) because he always had a crush on Sue Richards. He's spent most of his time in Marvel fighting the Fantastic Four. So, he was part of the whole Fox thing. Marvel also did a Micronauts comic at one point. BUT.... The Micronauts were a continuation of a toy called Micro Men. Micro Men became Micronauts and THEN became THE TRANSFORMERS! So that's a HUGE mess. And, lastly, Marvel did do an amazing What If? story that was 'What If Thor fought Conan?'. Conan found himself in modern times, crossed paths with Thor and found himself a cache of military grade weapons and proceeded to unleash on Thor while duel wielding assault rifles. Of course, he didn't do a lot of damage, but it might have been his greatest moment.

Somewhere, I have about 60 or so ROM comic books. I was fascinated by the Dire Wraiths & just got it in my head that this comic line would be worth money, in the future. I think the whole run was less than 75 issues. It was corny & not particularly well drawn, in the beginning but at the end it was exciting.

I think the reason Namor went back is that they never made a Sub-Mariner movie. Because they made a Hulk movie, it reset the expiration date on their rights.
Remember that Marvel has continued to publish stuff with the SpaceKnight characters besides Rom. His wife and kids had a mini series, but they couldn't name their dad.

They could use the exiles, as characters that traveled from the fox-men universe. They then have an exuse to use some of the actors from te fox-men (preferably ones that could use another chance at the character, like rogue, psylocke, jubilee, havok), and a story-reason to bring over deadpool.
Rogue was literally in X-Men DOFP.....There was literally an entire cut of the film called The Rogue Cut.

Namor actually predates marvel and Timely. He premiered in motion picture funnies weekly, a pamphlet promotion concept for theater patrons. his first appearance was reprinted in marvel comics number 1 by Timely later.

Micronauts main hero was Acroyear. He had a real helmet and he was a bald black guy. Baron Karza was the main villain and he looked like a cross between Mazinger Z, Darth Vader, Hakaider, Magneto, Doctor Doom and the Beyonder.
Micronauts and Rom were introduced during the 1970's, not 1990's.
