I can understand why vans ventured to make other kind of shoes in the 80s. Skateboarding was almost dead in early to mid 80s. The sports shoes market was dominated by other brands and vans almost went bankrupt. When I started skateboarding in the early 90s, airwalks were the choice as they were affordable. A pair of vans could buy you almost two pairs of airwalks.
Dude, when I was in 7th grade (2002) Vans released a "Pro Model" line. The logo was a circle graph divided into 5 areas, colored in fade from black to white. I can't remember the name of the model, but I am sure it was Vans' answer to the Osiris D3. It had the same super puffed profile, three black stripes going down the side of the shoe and an air bubble cap on the toe. I'd give *anything* to have those bad puppies again, or find any info about them at least. Hell, I'd be happy by just watching a picture of them.

The air walk office’s were in my hometown in the 90’s they would throw out garbage bags full of brand new shoes in the dumpster. I would sell the ones that didn’t fit me at school . I had snowboard boots and and bunch of shoes. After a while they caught on and started drilling holes in the souls or cutting them up

I had to decline the offer because it took about three weeks to assemble properly with function and skateability. I used to mend dress shoes and boots for Red Wing. 🏆

I had the all white gym low. Flimsy sole. I broke the nose off my board kickflipping a bump and my front foot rolled forward. My foot folded completely in half. Broke 5 bones in my foot and had a cast for the summer and the fall semester Jr year. I never owned another pair of airwalk.

The only thing Vans did good, was the Rowley line. I've had the privilege to skate the Rowley xl2 and Rowley xlt shoes. Fuckin unforgettable experience... I don't know what went wrong, but since then all the vans shoes i've got were piece of shit, and pushed me straight to the wide opened arms of 'es :) And it was the best choice i could ever make
