I’ve been through tons of different shoe brands and skate everyday. I just got the new Tiago’s from New Balance and they are holding up SUPER WELL after a month. They look like they’ve only been through 1 session. Compared to my Fallen “The Fiend” which I went through 4 pairs in 3 weeks. Recommend Tiagos!
Also depends on the grip tape as well I stopped skating mob to make my shoes have more life , im skating shake junt , still grippy but doesnt blow shoes out fast , I have a lot of shoes but I rotate a couple pairs that seems to last me a couple months before they get worn , I could really stretch em to 3- 4 months if I had to before complete blow out , I have a bunch of es accel ogs and slims , I skate and rotate depending on the outfit , for durability go cupsole over vulc worth the extra cost
I tore a hole on brand new pair of vans in its first session. I glued the hole and have been glueing whenever they start rippin, it's been a good 4 months of skating them 2 to 3 times a week and they are still holding up. If you take care the shoes they will last A LOT more than if u just let them get sherreded
I skated the vintage blazers for about 6 months and never ripped through the leather. Had to stop skating them because I blew holes through the bottoms. Currently skating the Louie converse mid tops and I love them, they’re soggy asl but have also lasted me about 6 months now and only a have a few minor holes and ripped laces. The bottoms are starting to blow out on them as well though, a penny sized hole has formed under my big toe of my front foot and the vulc sole is starting to come unglued. I think the only reason I’ll have to stop skating these is because the bottoms will fall apart. They have great board feel and already bought another pair but also plan on skating the new balance mid tops. Highly recommend the blazers mid tops if you rip through shoes and don’t mind having a longer break in period (they can be a pain in the ass to put on). The Louie is definitely my favorite shoe and don’t miss skating vans at all. I do have a friend that skates half cabs tho and hear they’re way comfier than other vans
I do hella flick tricks, and usually a month is how long my shoes last, give or take a little bit depending whether it’s a vulc or cupsole, I’ve been skating the Etnies Marana x Michelin and it’s been 3 weeks and I’m not even close to blowing out the toe cap, and the tread on the bottom has no signs of wear
@@soundsbitter I really like them a lot, I’ve been trying to find a shoe I really like to be my go to shoe, and I think the Marana is the one, the Chris Cole Trooper from Fallen is also a good contender
It also depends on the shoes you like to skate. In my case I just love Vans Authentic and SlipOns (the Skateboarding type), I know it’s “my fault” but I really like the look and feel of those shoes. So, with the proper super glue process I can make them last for a good three months until they get soggy and dangerous cos they may stick” too much to the grip. I also only ride MOB. 🤓
They only last me 1 month for me I use vans pros but now I prob won’t be able to rip through them because I haven’t been able to do flip tricks aside from heels because of a sprained ankle I’m scared to do kickflips now that I got my heel flips better than my kickflips idk if I lost them haven’t tried them after the injury
@@orlee14 one tip don’t do that it sounds like you are saving money and you are but in reality you’re not your risking your ankle and going to the hospital I kept on shoe goin my shoe until I tried a stair case bent me ankle not that bad got back up tried it again bent my ankle again and sprained it and got out for a month I tried to heal as fast as possible and I tried everything but I still even now don’t feel the same that sh was a ball all purple I thought I broke it but didn’t want to go to the hospital
@@TOXIC-fo2bc Yeah, that’s kinda what I meant when i said about the shoe getting too soggy and bc of that: kinda dangerous for ankles. Try your kickflips wearing your ankle guard until you gain back your confidence, I had the same problem in 2009 and wore my ankle guard for over a year until I was 100% comfortable with tricks. One more thing that you made me remember is that when I came back skating months after surgery I skated the “Reynolds 3”, didn’t came back fully on Classic looking Vans (even tho I was still loving em) 💪🏻
3:26 At $65 for a deck and $80-$100 for shoes it’s pretty tough to skate very much. I’ve been using the same deck for six months and it was trash four months ago. And year old new balance 306s
Honestly that's why I've started skating Powell Flight decks. They are a bit more expensive, but can last as long as 2-3 decks for about the price of 1.5 decks. Only problem with them is that they razor tail and chip the same as a regular deck. But, the pop lasts and they won't snap.
Yeah, games tough, Fish around For Real Renewal Decks and make SURE the seller isn't upcharging in price. They tend to be no more than $50 normally listed at $44. Or price point decks in other brands. Hell even Blanks if able I'd say. Skating is beyond fucking expensive. $120 a month for me between a 60 pair of shoes, and 60 board. That last baker I got was fucking $80....And Im in the U.S. I know some ppl that was the standard for a board for whatever reason internationally I believe.
A half decent fix I'd always use was just adding like 5 layers of tape over spots wear my shoe would rub off and just replacing the tape after each session
I glue the seams on my brand new shoes and they last 10x as long. “Blowing out” only happens for me now when I literally put a hole in the shoe, not when the stitches rip
This! I found using Loctite Super Glue (not the gel) on just the stitching would make it last a lot longer. It also depends on the shoe construction. I have found that the FP Neen shoe and Jamie Foy New Balance shoe both hold up well without super glue
@@jamesreeher9040 I use thin CA to soak into the stitches and medium CA when I feel like it could use a second round. I have CA accelerator spray as well so its easy to touch them up before going out and skating since they dry instantly.
I bought some new shoes after hearing this podcast. I've been skating my current shoes for like 8 months lol. I don't skate every day, but they were trashed. 2 to 4 a month sounds ridiculous to me.
I grew up wearing Vision Street Wear. The classic suede hightops, with the rubber ollie pad. $20 from Cal Sports in SD in the 1990s. Those shoes held up better than any skate shoe besides maybe the 1st Airwalk model. Love those kicks. Funny walmart makes womens versions in 2022, but mens are all 100$ or more used. Best shoe for feel and sturdiness IMO. Hope to see VSW, re launch that model.
been skatin the fp neens for the last few years , the forever caps last a long time the Ollie stitch will rip , I’ve burned holes in some , but a good balance of switch and reg and they hold up , the soles will blow out first , depending if your pushing in the streets or skating ramps
Depends on the shoe but I skate my board and shoes until it’s done like Kenny Anderson and Vincent Alveraz. So it would be about 6 months but if it’s heavy skating about 2 months and it’s with the tyshawns and forum 94 adv.
Pair a month/3 weeks if I'm skating a thinner shoe and pair for 2-3 months if its a bulkier shoe and I like to have the new shoe feeling as long as possible. I usually retire a pair when they get too soggy or the toe is too worn down from kickflips.
This made me remember when I was a kid and used converse to skate and wore them down till I had holes on the sole. The top never wore out because we used pieces of scrap rubber from tires attached to the shoes, best ollie grip ever also. We were rad! :D I'll never forget those days around the 90s. I do inline skate now in the street at 47 and have two pairs of Twister Edge skates....absolutely love them.
@@AspiringSpaceWizard I used to think inline was meh! but is quite a lot of fun. I practice something called "Wizard Skating" I still have some sweet nice skateboards I was in and out but now that I'm getting fully fit and strong I will jump on them for some fun. I love being on wheels.
I skate every day and I go through a pair or two of practice shoes a month, but I also stock up on built shoes like Adidas and Etnies (when they go on sale) and keep up with my hot glue and shoe goo game. Of course I also have fresh shoes that I wear to impress. I think it’s essential to have shoes for grinding, and shoes for showing out.
Best skate shoes ever made.... For durability, has to be the Airwalk NTS. The amount of rubber covering the toe side was simply unrivaled. I skated those shoes 6 hours a day for a year.
I would say if you're learning kickflip tricks especially double kickflip tricks, your shoes get cut down fast. If you're doing late shove it tricks, too. Lots of griptape sliding. I find that heelflip tricks are a lot less damaging on your shoes. I'd say these days I'll skate a pair of shoes for 4-6 months, but I'm not afraid to run shoe goo on the wear areas to extend the life of the shoes.
also the suede on accel slims wears down quicker than any dunk low ive skated. every dunk low ive skated with suede never rips or gets worn down. on the es accel slim they defo wear down at the front. also i found my first dunk highs truck it. to be low quality suede too that wore down quick. i have wheat and mocha dunk lows that has good suede. ive got murasaki ride life navy blue dunk lows and the suede on thats just as durable as the wheats and not worn down. i wish accel slim was a more solid construction just like a dunk low.
I feel like some pros just go through shoes quick because they’re able to get new shoes all the time. On top of that, they’re probably just used to the feeling of new shoes.
I flip my board a lot, im 39, lately being into adidas mostly. They stay perfect for almost 3 months. Choose wisely and your pocket will be happy. If i was wearing canvas then yes for sure 2 pair a week
The DC lynx had a heavy rubber lining around the toe. My first pair of DC's lasted forever even when I was learning kickflips. I can't even find a pick of them they all have suede on the area that had rubber on my old pair.
as a total beginner whos in all likelihood going to be doing an obscene amount of ollies, kickflips, whatevers, just flat ground and street stuff as im still trying to learn, what might last me the longest/be a better bang for my buck? or tips to maintain shoes to get the most out of them? price doesnt matter much, but if im spending 100$ on superstars or something id like to keep the fuckers around for a bit longer than 3 weeks lol
I go through a pair a month. That's skating 2-3 times a week. The main thing that wears out is the sole. I always dig my toes in when I do flip tricks and thats where the hole always starts. I'm not doing no Flintstones stuff.
I buy bulk on sale shoes once a year usually 4 pairs and it lasts me through the year. I have big feet (size 12) and live in a remote area so I just stick to the brands I know fit me and I can get 2-3 months on average skating and more in the winter as I skate less.
I skate a couple hours hard almost daily. Been skating Van's Aves as much as I can and I easily get a month or more out of them while doing lots of kickflips and tricks that will wear them out quicker. I'll wear them till they are in really bad shape so maybe 1.5 months.
I had the opportunity to skate some of Lizard Kings Supra shoes that where “Samples” TOTALLY different than the “mass produced” shoe and they fucking ruled!
Seeing that accel in the thumbnail... im not sure how many of those I've gone through. Fking love them, especially the original model, even though they look more like barock furniture than shoes, still fit my feet perfectly ♡♡♡
I get annoyed if something doesn't last at least two months. I'm no pro, yes I do flips, but I guess I am just stingy :) Also, not sure what changed but I used to go through SO many decks compared to what I do now (been skating on/off for 20 years).
I straight ripped right through a pair of Globes shoe The MoJo. Boardslide bail on a 9 rail and landed so hard my foot just broke through the left shoe. This was around 2004 , I wore those shoes to death!
I go through one pair of shoes a month skating about 10 hours per week, and even that seems overly decadent to me sometimes. 4 pairs a week? That's mad wasteful. I can only hope they're donating all those old shoes and not just throwing them away...
All sports teams have multiple jerseys they wear and get cleaned for them. The have like 5 of each style but get charged for additional jerseys if they give or pass out. Like kd gives his jersey to zion. Or to a fan. After so many they are charged for new ones.

Recommend Tiagos!
loved the new balances, only weakspot i found is the bottom, always blew a hole in my front foot right below my big toe
Also depends on the grip tape as well I stopped skating mob to make my shoes have more life , im skating shake junt , still grippy but doesnt blow shoes out fast , I have a lot of shoes but I rotate a couple pairs that seems to last me a couple months before they get worn , I could really stretch em to 3- 4 months if I had to before complete blow out , I have a bunch of es accel ogs and slims , I skate and rotate depending on the outfit , for durability go cupsole over vulc worth the extra cost
as a brazilian who skates a lot (and shoes are hella expensive down here) i only skate Dc's and they usually last for 2 to 3 months
I tore a hole on brand new pair of vans in its first session. I glued the hole and have been glueing whenever they start rippin, it's been a good 4 months of skating them 2 to 3 times a week and they are still holding up. If you take care the shoes they will last A LOT more than if u just let them get sherreded
"Emerica Reynolds 2" for me is epic tough shoes. I remember killing them about 2 seasons, but they were in action all the time.
Been skating the same shoes for over a year now. Dkl griptape is a shoe saver and the way of the future. ;)
skateboarding is like taking a belt sander to your shoes.
That why i skate jessup, mob means your shoes dies way faster
Without a doubt. Blew threw shoes wayyy quicker riding mob lol.
Facts.
💯
They last a long time with the DKL grip
I do hella flick tricks, and usually a month is how long my shoes last, give or take a little bit depending whether it’s a vulc or cupsole, I’ve been skating the Etnies Marana x Michelin and it’s been 3 weeks and I’m not even close to blowing out the toe cap, and the tread on the bottom has no signs of wear
Yeah maranas are my next shoe. They probably last forever
@@soundsbitter I really like them a lot, I’ve been trying to find a shoe I really like to be my go to shoe, and I think the Marana is the one, the Chris Cole Trooper from Fallen is also a good contender
Roger looks like Steve’s cousin from Blues Clues
Always thought the nike zoom tre held up forever ...loved the Emerica kirtchart 3 and especially accel plus favorites
Tiagos have the best durability. New balance has been on there shit. Even the foys are great
Etnies Marana or Joslins will last almost anyone 1-3 months at least! Some of the most durable shoes ever made!
Same here slip ons i put glue on the stitching and it last me forever best looking shoes!
Skate shoes, no matter what brand last about a dollar a day. hahaha!!!! Over the years I have found that to be very accurate.
Shoe goo is a skaters best friend
I feel you
A half decent fix I'd always use was just adding like 5 layers of tape over spots wear my shoe would rub off and just replacing the tape after each session
Iv done that a bunch with electrical tape works good
I glue the seams on my brand new shoes and they last 10x as long.
Need Mike Mo to weigh in on this one!
12 pair in three weeks? Cap.
Nine club needs a boxer brief discussion
My Nike SB’s lasted about 2-3 months, VANs seem to go in about 2 months, but it really depends how many flip tricks, how much flicking, etc you do
KELLY LMAOOOOO🤣🤣🤣
I grew up wearing Vision Street Wear. The classic suede hightops, with the rubber ollie pad. $20 from Cal Sports in SD in the 1990s. Those shoes held up better than any skate shoe besides maybe the 1st Airwalk model. Love those kicks. Funny walmart makes womens versions in 2022, but mens are all 100$ or more used. Best shoe for feel and sturdiness IMO. Hope to see VSW, re launch that model.
Yes they were made to last
Shoe goo baby
That thumbnail takes me back. Es' Accels are the greatest skate shoe ever made
start making this another recurring question on the show to go along with board madness
Now the real question is what do i do with all my torn up shoes 😂
been skatin the fp neens for the last few years , the forever caps last a long time the Ollie stitch will rip , I’ve burned holes in some , but a good balance of switch and reg and they hold up , the soles will blow out first , depending if your pushing in the streets or skating ramps
Ive learned that HeelFlip flips and tres preserve ur shoes pretty well if ur just wanting to film something for fun yk
The theory 1.5 was my first favorite skate shoe!!! I need them back!!
ES 1.5 OR 2.0
until the soles are dead - i use non-abrasive grip ;)
i just skate rubber grip, and i have yet to change my skate shoes this year. and my shoes are canvas
Why is it a skate shoe cost $100+ but last barely a month? Never fully understood
Traitor lol
@@AspiringSpaceWizard I used to think inline was meh! but is quite a lot of fun. I practice something called "Wizard Skating"
I still have some sweet nice skateboards I was in and out but now that I'm getting fully fit and strong I will jump on them for some fun. I love being on wheels.
@@SaccoBelmonte haha all jokes brother ! Do what makes you happy. Life is to short to give a fuck !
I buy 6-10 pairs of shoes every year on black Friday. Try to find them for around $30-$40.
Shoes normally last me around 2-3 months. I skate Vans and usually skate around 3-5 days a week
Why did you all take down this episode? I was never able to finish the whole thing.
A pair a week hurts my broke ass. Hot glue and not riding MOB griptape anymore has me at 1 pair per month now.
I wear mine until they are absolutely dead, I skate 2-3 times a week and they last about a year usually. I skate Adidas and dcs
I skate every morning before work 2hr sessions. 1 pair usually lasts 3 weeks max especially if im doing lots of flip tricks
Yeah as a daily skater 3-4 hours a day and yeah if I break more than 2 boards a month it's so expensive usually try to stretch shoes out for a month.
i be skating the clearance shoes jsut cuz i kno im finna destroy them. ill make 15$ vans/nikes last months with the glue.
I'll wear them till they are in really bad shape so maybe 1.5 months.
skating 2 shoes a week, travel by plane for a spot and then show your face for a save the planet ad. dahmm
I had the opportunity to skate some of Lizard Kings Supra shoes that where “Samples” TOTALLY different than the “mass produced” shoe and they fucking ruled!
I wanna know why my vans A.v.e. already have a hole not in the ollie spot but my other foot along my big toe. I only wore them 8 times
Can’t find an episode on the 9 with Chris Miller … please have my favorite skater on ! He is style for days
Seeing that accel in the thumbnail... im not sure how many of those I've gone through. Fking love them, especially the original model, even though they look more like barock furniture than shoes, still fit my feet perfectly ♡♡♡
Superglue all seams you need to, after session 1! Every shoe needs that somewhere.
I get annoyed if something doesn't last at least two months. I'm no pro, yes I do flips, but I guess I am just stingy :)
Also, not sure what changed but I used to go through SO many decks compared to what I do now (been skating on/off for 20 years).
Learned to properly distribute your weight when landing?
@@nullbyt More'n'likely :)
I epoxied a strip of rubber boot onto my old Axion Kareem's...never wore through it after that!
40 hours from one pair wtf shoes do u wear they must suck
Living in the UK back in the 80s remember buying stick on soles from Woolworths to make my Airwalks last a bit longer. Good days!
All sports teams have multiple jerseys they wear and get cleaned for them. The have like 5 of each style but get charged for additional jerseys if they give or pass out. Like kd gives his jersey to zion. Or to a fan. After so many they are charged for new ones.
I haven't skated in 20 years and I still wear old school DC Courts. Always white cuz they match everything lol
I just buy 4 a year and keep ‘em in rotation works just fine for me keep on on till the wheels 🛞 fall off xD been skating like 12 years now long live shredding

About a month I think typically. All tho. When the Joslin is advertised as 3x more durable. They don't lie. They really have lasted me almost 3 months maybe 3 4 days a week. 3-4 hour sessions
i like worn shoes better, but i like them to last too. so i'll go over the stitches with glue first, shoe goo high wear areas before they wear all the way through, even patch the soles from the inside with bike tire tubes. as long as they have structure and can skate comfortably
Airwalks from the 90's lasted longer than the shoes of today
Shoes have gone Up in price, down in durability
I would rip through a pair of suedes in a week once as a kid. I’d usually get my parents to buy me a new pair each months . Sounds about right .
It's the fucking laces for me. Done every few days
I feel like skate shoes used to last me about 4 to 6 months. I skated everyday. I'm talking 2003 to 2008. Now the same brands wear out in 3 months..and I don't skate close to what I used too.
És are thinner.. i hated my accel slim; got heelbruise the first day on flatground...my adidas last a year but i didnt skate no more everyday.. like one session a week and here in Canada we got snow time.. when i was younger it was more a pair of shoes by 2months... depend what i bought.. lot of shoes didnt last long
The Og És accel last really a long time without heelbruise. No offense to És i still love the brand
Agreed. I couldn’t skate my Accel slims without FP insoles.
