Vans is the most impressive of all. Like i dont know who is behind the change but must be a mastermind. Im in mexico and back in early 2ks, during the "skateboard resurgence" they (re)entered the market hard, and they didnt dump a bunch of shoes trying to go after money like nike does, they formed a skate team, they sponsored so many FREE events, hired very famous bands, bring their international team here, it just took the scene to the next level. I was involved in a couple of those events, and let me tell you they were awesome with us and im forever thankful, i have almost exclusively been wearing their shoes since then (had a couple of adios and a pair of reissue airwalks lol) and im sure ill be buried wearing them. They never stopped, now they built a house of vans and they also sponsor skateboarding lessons. So much hate for vans because "its vanity fair!! REEEEEEEEEE!", it could be a mcdonalds subsidiary for all i care, they have done so much for us here, you cant hate them. What has nike done? what about adidas? They are also sold here, they have online and b&m stores too, but they dont give anything back.
This was actually done in a really clever and historically correct way without giving details that really weren’t necessary. As far as the Nike question, I think they reason that they’ve cut out so many of the riders and shops to sell their product is because they’ve made really (borderline crazy) moves to sell directly to the consumer. I think they realize that everybody is moving to shopping online, even skaters and that they don’t necessarily need anybody else than themselves and the SNKRS app to sell dunks. Every dunk low sells out in minutes, resells for even more and Nike knows it. Recently there’s even been rumors that Nike is going to start cutting out supply to the big chains like Foot Locker and use the brick and mortar stores as a way of testing the market for new silhouettes rather than being the place to purchase the latest and greatest. I’ve been collecting their sneakers since the Air Chode days and it’s really weird to see Nike SB go from being the ugly girl who couldn’t get a prom date to the dimepiece that’s killing everyone’s dreams. Anyways awesome video, peace and love now go hop some fences and skate

I was a complete Es' snob for quite some time.

Pretty sure City Stars had issues securing Trademark registration, so they had to change the brand to All City before it ultimately went under. So you accidentally did a pretty decent job of showing how the US economy is just an illusion of competition. And no matter what products you choose, the profit is all funneling to a small handful of conglomerates that own everything else.

After being out of... "The culture" .... for a decade or so, I went to a skate shop about 3 years back. I asked the kid there why they didn't carry any Ipaths. he was so confused and I was a old fart kook. Then I went online to try to get some and was admittedly a little shocked that they had just died out completely. Even finding a used pair on eBay seemed to be rare.... I'm old. Hey Levi, going off topic here a bit but you said muska is your fav, how do you feel about the signed decks he’s been dropping. Would be amazing if they were shortys
Another honorable mention to throw in is Black Label skateboards. Except John Lucero made choices purposely to support the company's integrity, community, riders, etc over himself. They never went out of business but they were really slow due to those sacrifices and then gained major popularity again. Jason Adams, Omar Hassan, and many others from the newer gen have really pushed it's anti-corp/industry attitude well. Success doesn't always mean competing in a food chain!
I have been wearing es shoes since I was about 14 or 15, so over 20 years. Used to get the Koston 1s, but have since settled on the Accels. When they were gone I had to buy another brand and I couldn't stand them. When they came back, it was like the world was right again.
That jason lee black and white commercial for airwalk is what made me wanna skate when I was a kid lol. No lie I loved the fact that Payless sold airwalk shoes. @@ShredzShop it's aight. Duane Peters comes out. I was not expecting that. I guess there wasn't a lot of new stuff in it If you know who he is. But it was cool.
@@ShredzShop I own one of those reissues. It's basically a pair of Etnies with Etnies Logo on the tongue and sheep logo on the side of the shoe...Not a big deal. But I really liked Sheep because it was the only vegan skate shoe company back then. I'd love to see them coming back.
I actually didn't know that CCS was in trouble. I grew up with them and it was only two days ago that I went back to them because I'm looking to buy a board to cruse around in.
Supra's story is a very tragic one. Probably the only core skate shoe brand worth paying attention to back in The Vulc Era. And with their funds they made themselves wax wings and flew too close to the sun by pandering to celebrities and getting away by somehow getting away with charging premium price (even more expensive than Jordans) for shoes made with cheap materials. Their top best seller at their peak, TK's Society, by default had leather on the interior of the straps regardless of the dominant material of the shoes. Problem was, they chose the cheapest mall brand grade pleather for them, meaning that over time it would peel off. Material which was chosen to be used for their highly sought after perf "leather" models, by the way. Their other best seller of course being Chad Muska's Skytop 2 surprisingly didn't suffer from any of this. However, I don't know who had the greatest idea of making their inner lining made strictly from leather regardless of the dominant material on the model. You can already guess which leather they choose for that. And, once again, these shoes were more expensive than Jordans. More accessible as they were also sold through mall stores like Zumiez, Journey's and Backcountry's long defunct Dog Funk, but still. And it got even worse after it got sold to the chinese, as they practically ran it to the ground by making it a lifestyle brand and completely downgrade the brand by getting rid of the brand's signature waxed laces and the SupraFoam insole, ruining the fit of the shoes and removing key features from their best sellers. Some examples of the latter being: - The laces now provided being cheap and not even long enough to lace. - Vulcanized bumper got shortened. Making the shoes rip laces more easily, if you were brave enough to skate them - The Vaider no longer featured it's signature tongue enamel slider nor detailing piping at the heel part. - At some point team riders started to jump ship from the brand. One of them being TK, so future Society's and Stacks no longer featured TK's logo. - The Skytop had it's signature stash pocket removed. - The Cuban got it's signature cuban link chain taken away and renamed as just Cuba and the fit of the shoe was worse, so much that you had to take off the insole to wear it. However, they did improve the tongue. Which now featured an actual elastic band instead of a stiff piece of cloth from The Cuban. And the saddest part, the last good things the brand would ever put out, got out on the same year of their demise. These being the Skytop 77, The Muska 2000 (which ironically was Muska's shoe with eS but for lifestyle) and The Penny Pro, a proper skate shoe compared to The Bandit. And lastly, a triple collab with Shore Line Mafia's rapper Fenix Flexin and Brooklyn Projects using the Cuba all decked out in purple velvet with gold details in all Supra fashion, and blessing it by giving back it's cuban link chain adorned with Shore Line Mafia's SLM acronym. Review coming soon.
The thing is Nike will like Addias have shoe models that if not skateboarding, they can skate in because they make Originals for Addias some of them basketball classics or old general 1970 models that work and Nike has some old Basketball models that work for Skateboarding.
I think it was the Reynolds 3's that made the Vulc Sole so popular in the mid-late 2000's. Then Leo Romero came out with his shoe and it was also a vulc too. And i think it just stuck after Stefan came out with his shoe. Then Thats when every brand had to make the same shoe basically
Not gonna lie, at first glance, that Nike shoe at 10:40 looked like Ishods pro model to me 😂(before anyone gets upset about this, don’t worry, I actually like how his pro shoe looks). In other news, can’t wait for the Vans x Crocs collab 🔥

I came back to skating a fews months ago to find that Fallen had gone under and came back so i ordered a pair of Billy Marks' shoes and they.... Just don't have the same quality i remember.
I've had this with products over the years, I always wonder how much is different quality (which has to be part of it, new factories etc) and how much is my nostalgia hyping something up in my head that I loved so much when I was younger haha.
man the wave of nostalgia that hit me is so strong
Glad you enjoyed!
Wow!, that grind was sick
I always wondered what happened to ccs I use to buy boards and wheels all the time through the free mags ,I remember mag day every month .waiting for it and my Transworld mags to get delivered.
Cool to see them back
I remember having my mom order me a hookups board and she was cool untill i opened it. She only bought me blank decks after that
I live 10 minutes away from there shop in slo and growing up I loved going there to get clothes/skateboards
Skateboarding fire 🔥 is boosting back! This is awesome!!
Great video!
Thanks Doug!
Jason, I love the videos, keep ém coming !
😂😂
@@ShredzShop Just kidding Mr Switzer, I love the videos and the old info brings back great memories, I've on and off the board for 30 years now and your videos are a great source of info for new generations, cheers from sunny México !!
Love this video! You're awesome mann!! aha My most favorite skateboard will all be Element! Right next to World Industries and Blanks.
I remember circa also came out with the Lopez 50 which is their only shoe i think but those were worn by lots of people
FINGERS CROSSED FOR A *POPWAR* RETURN!!!
My mom still has an airwalk snowboard from 20 years ago. Can’t wait to shred it.
That's epic, probably worth some money in those snowboard collector Facebook pages...
Thank you for your vid. It's great to know skateboard brand.
I'm almost 50y old, still have my Powell Peralta sk8boad. Had to steal and sell over 300 car badges at that time.
Wow I had that Shorty's Chad Muska board when it came out back in like 96 or 97
Used to look forward to the ccs catalog every month, bought my first board from them and have bought countless since. Wish they brought the catalog back but I still buy boards from them!
Just found your channel. Pretty cool. Keep it going!
Thanks for watching!! 🙏 🙏 🙏
Hey Levi, going off topic here a bit but you said muska is your fav, how do you feel about the signed decks he’s been dropping. Would be amazing if they were shortys
He was doing signed boards with Shortys for a while, not sure what happened of why they stopped. Maybe just waiting for a bit?
How about globe shoes?
Circa is dead, all they have is Damn Al50’s
Another honorable mention to throw in is Black Label skateboards. Except John Lucero made choices purposely to support the company's integrity, community, riders, etc over himself. They never went out of business but they were really slow due to those sacrifices and then gained major popularity again. Jason Adams, Omar Hassan, and many others from the newer gen have really pushed it's anti-corp/industry attitude well. Success doesn't always mean competing in a food chain!
I miss blind skateboards, hey Shredz Shop, I’m in Toronto, gonna order a new retro deck from you guys soon.
Respect! Let us know if you ever make it out this way... we'll go skate.
Imagine if Crocs made a skate shoe…. Mine are the “all terrain” adjustable strap…..
They did collaborate with Supreme & Palace in the last 2 years... 🙄
Those classic Powell boards are still super gnarly. I really love those Cab models.
I have been wearing es shoes since I was about 14 or 15, so over 20 years. Used to get the Koston 1s, but have since settled on the Accels. When they were gone I had to buy another brand and I couldn't stand them. When they came back, it was like the world was right again.
Awesome video boys!
🙏🙏thanks for watching!
Ipath needs to come back and claim the Cariuma territory they ripped off.
I always wondered what happened to the lower-end 1980s brands like Variflex Skateboards, and Pacer Skateboards.
That jason lee black and white commercial for airwalk is what made me wanna skate when I was a kid lol. No lie I loved the fact that Payless sold airwalk shoes. Growing up we didn't have a lot of money so it was dope to go into Payless and buy cheap skate shoes. I was in the blank boards and airwalk shoes gang 🤘🤘🤘 hey levy have you watched "until the wheels fall off"?
Haven’t watched the Hawk doc yet, is it good?
@@ShredzShop it's aight. Duane Peters comes out. I was not expecting that. I guess there wasn't a lot of new stuff in it If you know who he is. But it was cool.
@@loscrows1836 I wanna watch it, just haven't found time yet!!
Love Es. What about sheep shoes? I had a pair of those too. I think they’re also coming back.anyway great episode
Seems like they release Sheep just every few years, but doesn't really stick around and have a team or anything .
You should do a video on fingerboarding 💯great video by the way! I always loved ès shoes🔥
Woah woah woah, cool it with the mustache hate big guy
😅
McSqueeb! That is from ‘87? Your history show is a lot of fun to watch.
Actually Fallen started with Jamie Thomas, Billy Marks, Josh Harmony and Jon Allie!!! 🙌 #RWTF
Great video, thanks
There was a time in '05 that I was lookin forward to the next Plan B vid titled 'unquestionable' with Pat, PJ, Darrell, Ryan Gallant and PRod
Can’t wait for TJs shoes , fav skater, best guy so humble . And Tony Ferguson as in the ufc ? Lol
The new TJ shoe should be dope!! 🔥 haha no Tony Ferguson that rode for Girl.
All i want is to have a pair of Fallen Apache shoes again. Those were the besssst
Agree!!, I'm wearing them right now!!
We need a part 2!!
could you do an extra vid telling something more about the background stuff? just an idea.. btw the croc things willy?
Good idea
This video is legitimately hilarious
Muska shoes was dope I had a few pairs back in the day 💯
Levi’s fav!
old skratch grip painting, nice.
hey i have a question i dont have a local skate shop so is skate delux trust worth?
Im born in the 90's and this still was very nostalgic!!
🙏🙏🙏
I rock the Nike SB Janoski's! So many different styles, some not so great, but most are pretty dope!
I actually didn't know that CCS was in trouble. I grew up with them and it was only two days ago that I went back to them because I'm looking to buy a board to cruse around in.
You’re seriously wearing crocs??!! That’s lamer than having a maple leaf on a flag!
😂 😂
Aww airwalks☺️☺️🤓🤓 that was the skater shoe when I was in school in the 90s. I wore and skated in them🤓 plus they were so comfortable
Some examples of the latter being:
- The laces now provided being cheap and not even long enough to lace.
- Vulcanized bumper got shortened. Making the shoes rip laces more easily, if you were brave enough to skate them
- The Vaider no longer featured it's signature tongue enamel slider nor detailing piping at the heel part.
Bro I seen all this and your right supra was a good brand to
The thing is Nike will like Addias have shoe models that if not skateboarding, they can skate in because they make Originals for Addias some of them basketball classics or old general 1970 models that work and Nike has some old Basketball models that work for Skateboarding.
“Psych! Dead body’s float baby!” 😂 lol wtf
damn, I like your channel!
🙏🙌thanks!!
