In this video, we convert the original shipping container doors into 8' glass doors on the first level of our container house. It took about a week to create these doors and a lot of hard work, but I think the results were worth the effort.

For two first timers doing this kind of construction you guys are killing it! Amazing work!
Thank you so much!! We are learning as we progress :)
Just a little thumbs up to help with the tube algorithm, I really like the fact that you are taking the time to answer all the questions from your viewers and subscribers, a very important step that a lot of tubers forget , 👍 really great work guy’s.
Thank you so much!! 😊
Watched all your vids in one rush after finding your channel! Unbelievable work of you 2👥 like the way you think first beforsten you do something! What I like most on your channel is the fact that he is a real worker, and did not want to speak in front of the camera. No acting there, just real craftsmanship! Also I like your way of presenting, not overwhelming or overacting, you show the reality of doing hart work by day and living in an RV all the time. There is a couple that shows the way it goes, not the easy dreamer way so much others try to show... go on, can not wait for more!
Thank you!! 🙂
Black is Beautiful... can’t wait to see the final product 🖤⚫️◼️⬛️♠️♣️🏴
Thank you! Many more videos to come :)
I agree, black is beautiful. So sleek and modern. Good choice
Thx so much! 🙂
Excellent! Cutting out the center panel of the doors and putting in glass is the way to go
Thank you! 🙂
Very good then there is no Plan B then Plan A. Just only came across ur channel first time today. Thanks for sharing ur skills.
I always wear eye protection when spraying paint just in case something cuts loose. Did you look into using HLVP sprayers? I have an Earlex HLVP sprayer that I like to use to spray enamels as here is not much over spray like you get from a compressor set up.
Those end doors are absolutely stellar! 😎 I will be adding the taping of areas for sealant to my toolbox of skills. 🧔🏼👍🏻👍🏻 Keep rockin' the build!
Thank you!!! :)
The large glass panels installed in the original container doors look great! I really like that look - both from inside and outside. Two and a half years later wondering how the large glass panels have held up in the steel frame container doors? Have the steel frame container doors provided enough support for the glass panels to prevent the panels from twisting and cracking when the doors are operated?
Thank you!! The doors have held up really well over the years. The frame is super solid and heavy. :)
That looks amazing....great work!!!!
Thank you!!! :)
Love the Wine Glasses, so practicable, they can double up as coffee mugs, Bo Yeh!
Lol exactly! We try to get things that have multi functionality 😊
Resultado final excelente. Congrats
Thank you!! 🙂
just thought id comment and let you guys know theres huge gaps around the doors.... glad i could help :)
good to see you guys got a good sense of humour lol .... your doing a great job....im in the process of build a container build here in NZ using 36 40ft high cubes.... similar design to the puma container store that was in boston so same design but were going 6 wide... and all walls 20mm acrylic floor the ceiling smoke back tinted windows, gonna be awesome!!!! and you can get containers for 800 bucks...... yawwwza
Love the Italian coffeee at the end
My favorite way to end the day 😊
Awesome result. Congrats! 😁🤩
Thanks!! 🙂
Great job guys, they look amazing. I'm curious how well these doors open and close with the big seals and hinges? I've heard they can be a bit cumbersome and am working on planning our design. Thanks for any info you can provide. I really enjoy the step by step narration of your build. Cheers!
Thank you! The difficulty of opening/closing the doors depends on the container. Some can be a little out of form and be very difficult to open/close. We had to tweak ours a little bit to adjust them, but other than that they are good. To avoid these issues completely you could install custom door seals that just go around the exterior and then they would be super easy to open/close. 🙂
This is amazing, thank you for posting this video. I def want to do some glass on my container doors now.
Thank you!! 🙂
hi, very good and fine work. The view to the west with the colors of the sunset gives a particularly aesthetic atmosphere to your (future) interior. Thanks for sharing ! (and sorry for my bad english from France) :-D
Merci beaucoup!! :)
Top job geweldig gedaan ziet er goed uit 🤩👍👌✊ Groetjes uit Holland 👋🏼🥰🌷
Thank you!!
Nice work, guys! BTW, how do you plan to insulate the doors (metal part of it)?
We will do a little bit of spray foam on the recessed parts & then cover it, but the tubing will stay as is.
Hello what did you use for a foundation?
Was that a 55gl drum filled with concrete?
We set up multiple forms and poured concrete. I have 3 videos about it all labeled “foundation” part 1, 2, & 3. Here is a link to Part 3:

Hello. Can you tell me which door gaskets you used after the conversion of the doors?
The standard 2 piece “J” door gaskets that are used on containers.
Super!
Hello from Russia!
Spasibo!! :)
If I have seen it right, you did not secure the glazing to the door leaf with glazing beads. The glazing is holden in place by the structural sealant only. That would mean it is not mechaniclly fixed to the leafs. With this, the glazing is not secured against vadalism or burglary attempts. Also it may not withstand a strong storm with high wind pressure. If that's the situation I recognized you could solve the matter by using steel metal flat stripes on the inside of the leaf 2 inches wide covering the glass edge by one and the leaf section with the other one inch of the flat bar which should be 3mm thick at the minimum.
You could install an interior steel lip, but it’s not an obligation. The doors are glass so not much can stop burglary, but we don’t have to worry too much about that where we are. The sealant is structural so the panels aren’t going anywhere. We’ve had them in for 2 years now with many coastal storms and they are fine. If you take apart a standard sliding glass door you’ll see that it’s installed very similar and has less strength than our design.
Agreed! The sealant is great but you'll definitely have issues if you don't screw some flat bar to the back side so the glass is sandwiched by a metal frame on both sides.
@@MyWillDAbeast The sealant/adhesive is structural (ASTM D412) so it’s not necessary to put anything behind the panels. There’s a lot of sealant in between and around the panels on the inside and outside, and it’s been about 3 yrs now and no issues. You can see how a typical sliding glass door is setup at the end of this video:
ua-cam.com/video/iE0Abgg2SHQ/v-deo.html
There’s no sealant at all and the only thing holding them in place is a plastic clip & double sided tape, so what we did is beyond what is done in a typical glass door that you find in almost every house. It’s crazy when you see how they put together something so common! 🙂
Looks really good!
Thank you!! 😊
You could use car body filler to repair any dents and imperfections.
We thought about that but decided against it because we didn’t want to spend the extra time to do that. We still have 5 more containers to convert so we have to be careful with our time management. 🙂
Stunning!!
Thx!! :)
Beautiful work. I would like to see the completed home. Please let me know how. Where are you located?
Thank you! We’re in Oregon.
Looks great! Can you please share more details about the glass itself-type, dimensions, source..? Thanks!
Thank you!! They are 1” insulated glass panels and we got them from a local door/window store. 🙂
@@PacificPinesRanchHow much did you pay for the glass panels? I'm looking at doing the same thing for my container build but i'm finding prices in the $1k plus price range.
amazing as usual, small detail important
Thank you!!! :)
Great video! I will be building my own steel window frames and windows for my container project and it was interesting to see how you placed the glass. Did you use VHB tape?
Thank you!! I don’t know the brand of the tape. We bought it from a window/door store because it is what they use to replace glass panels in sliding glass doors, windows, etc.
Great video. What did you do to seal the top and bottom of the doors, you can see light coming through.
Thank you! We didn’t film the installation of the door gaskets in this video, but in later videos we did. Like this one: ua-cam.com/video/iE0Abgg2SHQ/v-deo.html 🙂
@@PacificPinesRanch Thank you. So, what are your plans for Pine River Ranch? Will it be an Airbnb?
@@RoadTripTravel of course! It will be our home when we’re finished 🙂
What's holding the glass in the doors? Thanks! Beautiful work, super exciting to watch your videos.
Thank you! There is a metal edge on the exterior and the rest is held in place with double sided tape and structural sealant/adhesive.
@@PacificPinesRanch Thanks for the explanation!
По тихоньку дворец построится 👍👍👍
Looks great! Our of curiosity: will you post a video on how exactely you closed the gap? I would be really interested to see that! Saludos de Chile!
Thank you!! We did these glass doors on 3 more containers so I think I have more in depth videos of us doing the sealant that I will post in the future. 🙂
@@PacificPinesRanch I already subbed your channel! Thank you so much for all your efforts! Saludos de Chile! Michael
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!! :)
Could you tell us the dimensions of the glass please? It would be great to get an idea of what they would cost in my area.
ua-cam.com/video/iE0Abgg2SHQ/v-deo.html
I have all of that info in this video^ 😊
Did i get it right that the sealant/adhesive is the only thing keeping those windows in place on the interior side? I see a little metal cutout strip on the exterior side preventing it from falling out, but dont see anything on the interior side.
Yes you’re right. It’s similar to how a windshield is installed. The sealant is structural so the glass panels aren’t going anywhere. :)
the epoxy colour for the doors, this looks really good and it seems
it fills holes and bumps, what kind of epoxy colour is this? i know
1000nds endless questions.. Sorry for that! 🤭👍
The primer is sort of a beige/purple and the top coat is black 🙂
@@PacificPinesRanch i must look where i can find a similiar product cause it looks good.. !
You look great with hejab
Invest in an oxy torch. Gas axe cuts metal good ! or even a mini plasma cutter.
Now we have a plasma cutter and we use it ALL THE TIME! What an awesome tool. I’d still like to get an oxy torch though. 🙂
I was just about to ask what is faster
That black is nice its going to look dope, also did you know there is a huge gap between the door lol
Lol thank you!! 😊
LOOKS FANTASTIC ‼️👍👍 Do the doors sag at all. You removed 90% of the steel on each door? Great Color, Better Design Guys‼️👍👍. Vinny 🇺🇸 PS NEW SUBSCRIBER
Hi Vinny! Thanks so much! The doors didn't sag at all after doing the cutouts. The frame is pretty solid. :)
I'm going to do the same thing only just use plywood to make the doors lighter instead of glass. I want to install a garage door opener to open/close them.
Sounds like a cool idea! :)
Great job
Thank you!
Curious. The glass installed directly to the door? No aluminum frame?
The frame is the door. Basically the glass is installed inside of a steel frame which is part of the door.
Great 👍 job
Thanks!! :)
You forgot to mention to leave a reveal around the door cut opening for the glass to seat against???
Is there a reason you did not do this type of work off site before it was so high off the ground?
Yes, we didn’t have anywhere off site to do it unfortunately.
Love it
Thank you!
You both work so fast!
Great UA-cam sensations... congratulations 👏
Lol thank you David!! If only we were that fast in real life 🙂
Great video
Thank you! :)
Where did you order the glass panels and what was the cost?
The cost breakdown is in this video (but the price of glass has went up like 300% since we did our glass doors, so keep that in mind): ua-cam.com/video/L0pgwY2Nok8/v-deo.html
You can order glass panels from any door and window store.
We also have the plans (& all the sizes/specifications) for this conversion for sale here: www.pacificpinesranch.com/product-page/glass-door-conversion-plans
Thanks for the sharing.
BTW, insulating container house might be one of the biggest challenge comparing with other tasks.
So did you test you door to see their thermo performance?
You keep talking about sand blasting for hard to reach areas. Can you please post a link to where you got that from and if you think it is a worthwhile purchase?
I will be doing a video very soon explaining the different ways to remove rust from a container, and sandblasting will be in that video. We got our sandblaster from harbor freight. It’s a gun that attaches to the air compressor & we use aluminum oxide or coal slag.

@@PacificPinesRanch really appreciate the quick reply. I’ll hang fast for the episode.

Awesome...
Thank you!
Hi we're do fine the glass panel
We're did you fine glass panel and how can I get them
You can usually order them at any local window/door store.
Did you know there’s a huge gap around the….just kidding Great job!!!
Lol Thank you!!!
Great job on the glass doors. What was exact time it took to complete doors?
Thank you!! I’d say somewhere around 5/6 days. 🙂
use bondo to fill any holes or divets in the doors......
We thought about that and then decided against it because of time. It’s a great idea though and if we didn’t have such a short building season we probably would have done it. 🙂
Muy bien
Gracias!
Hey, you have gaps! Just kidding! What a spectacular job you’ve done, one inch thick glass? Holy cow! Please don’t apologize for being a working woman, what kind of creep would point that out? We are boat people who now are Houseboaters, our boat has steel pontoons and solid steel frames on the bottom and roof. We spent August thru October in the boatyard grinding and sanding steel before we could paint with rust protection, primer then paint, so I feel your pain and the cruddy work look! Thanks so much for the episode, your channel is just so damn good, your taste is gorgeous! Did the inspector pass your wonderful work?
Thx so much Nena! You sound like you definitely have experienced life on the “grind” lol. We just got a Maxum 2900 boat that we are going to be renovating and rebuilding & I will be sharing the process of all of that too. So cool you have a houseboat. Sounds like you’re living the good life. 😊
How thick is the glass 👓your using
We used 1” insulated panels
Bondo for scuff and dents?
We thought about that but decided we could live with the small imperfections
@@PacificPinesRanch starting to take shape.cant wait to see the interiors.
This would never work in Minnesota. No insulation or thermal break in the frames would mean massive amounts of heat loss and they would frost up in the winter. Good luck. Great video.
Thx! It’s definitely tricky building in harsh or extreme climates such as Minnesota. If we were building there we would have designed the house much differently but luckily we don’t have to deal with extreme temperatures, only excessive rain. 🙂
There's a huge gap around the door
There is?!?!?! 😜 lol
@@PacificPinesRanch I cant believe those glass slabs are kept up merely with sealant. Care to divulge the price of the window pane and its dimensions? Thanks so much for the how-to.
Of course!! There is a border of steel around the exterior of the doors that helps keeps it in place, also double sided tape and then the sealant. The sealant is pretty badass stuff. The glass was somewhere around $300/panel and I totally forgot the size of the panels because it's been a long time since we've installed them. (This footage is from 2 years ago)
What are you guys using to secure the glass panel to the metal frame? Is it just the double sided tape and sealant?
@@jonathanescalada1584 There is a border of steel around the exterior, double sided tape, and adhesive/sealant around the exterior and interior. Very similar to how a windshield is installed. The sealant is structural so the panels aren’t going anywhere.
do you recall the brand of bolts?
The locking system we used is National Hardware (if that’s the bolts you’re talking about) 🙂
@@PacificPinesRanch thanks so much. one question more, if i may: do you recall how much sealant was needed per window?
@@r3horst I think it took about 4 tubes of sealant per glass panel (2 for the exterior and 2 for the interior) 🙂
@@PacificPinesRanch i hope you dont mind these questions as I will try to do precisely what yv done, and done beautifully. here goes one more: the stop gap (narrow section of steel where glazing tape is applied) against which the panels rest, what width are they?
@@r3horst It’s just under an inch but you can do that section to whatever you prefer. I wouldn’t go any smaller but you could definitely make it larger. 😊
I just decided what you need . You need a little girl . Just think of all the fun you can have .
That would be fun! :)
I’d pay you guys to do mine lol
Thx!! 😊😊

I will look into that! Thx for the suggestion
Where did you get the glass for these doors?
local window/door store. You can order them at any window/door store usually.
@matt Harvey Thank you! We love that look but we wanted to use marine grade paint to handle the environment and resist against corrosion. 🙂
