Official MJC Rules:
There are two ways to achieve the Official LRSu Milk Jug Challenge.
- Attend a live event
- Submit your own video for review and approval by LRSU.
Rules for each are outlined below.
General Rules:
1 - Distance must be verified by laser range finder, GPS or google earth and found to be clearly farther than the distance for the challenge that is being attempted.
2 - Each shooter has a maximum of 10 shots within 10 minutes. ABSOLUTELY NO SIGHTERS are allowed. 10 shots in 10 minutes is very generous in most cases.
3 - Shooters may attempt the challenge up to 3 times in a 24 hours period but must rest a minimum of 30 minutes between each attempt.
**Live Event Rules
1.Attempts must be officiated by an LRSU official designated by Long Range Shooters of Utah, LLC.
2. Live attempts must be witnessed by 3 individuals (LRSU official included.)
3. Shooter has a maximum of 10 minutes to take their 10 shots. Time begins when the shooters name is called.
4. Upon confirmation by the official a successful shooter is presented with their LRSU Milk Jug Challenge Decal and is interviewed about their rifle, ammo, optics and experience shooting the challenge. Video of each successful shooter's attempt is posted to the LRSU UA-cam Channel and the Milk Jug Challenge Roster (web address below.)
Milk Jug Challenge Rosters can be found here:
www.longrangeshootersofutah.co...
5. Separate challenges exist for 1000 yards, 1200 yards, 1500 yards and 1 Mile.
**Submitted Videos
Shooters that are unable to attend an official event in person have the option of submitting a properly filmed and formatted video to LRSU for review and potential approval.
(Updated Rules as of February 2016)
1. Video must follow the same format as LRSU videos.
This includes:
- Visual confirmation of the distance from the shooter to the target. ie zooming in and out, driving to the target on camera.
- Visual confirmation that all rules of the challenge were followed. ie no sighter shots, a clean target, etc.
- Shooter's interview discussing the make, model and components of his rifle, optics, ammo, how many shots it took, weather conditions and their experience shooting the challenge. (Please do not share specific load data)
- A camera showing the shooter and one showing the target is highly preferred and will greatly increase your likelihood of being approved. (This doesn't have to be a target cam per se as we'd like to see the distance as the camera zooms in and out.)
2. Completed video should be send as a link or compressed file to info@longrangeshootersofutah.com or longrangeshootersofutah.com
3. Please include in writing the name, address and phone number of the shooter. Location of the range via google map link or coordinance. Rifles, optics and ammo specs. How many shots it took to complete the challenge.

Lol $300 scope, factory hunting rifle, and .308 at a mile! This dude is a beast!
So cool. I wish I lived closer to places where I could learn to shoot like this.
Love it. Proof once again that you don't HAVE to run the latest, greatest barrel burner, to get it done. Congratulations.
Yeah you dont HAVE to but why on earth would you?
you don't have to, but it certainly helps
.308 is the most misunderstood and underrated long range round.
Underrated yes, but its been around far to long to be misunderstood. The 308 has killed everything from the talaban to grizzly bears. While there are bullets with higher BC's, ole reliable can still get it done.
R1Predator just ask Jason blaha
it is not underrated or misunderstood. it's just not used to it's potential because of the modern cartridges. and btw. the 308 as a whole is lousy for long range but the new bullets such as the warne change that a little.
i can take just about any caliber and with the right bullet, load, rifle, optic and shooter, make a hit that far. It wasnt the round itself that made it happen. with his dope, that bullet dropped about 95 meters from line of bore. Hardly what i would call underrated.
Disagree. 270win and wsm
wooooooweeeeee, just bought me a Bergara HMR in 308 yesterday at sportsmans!!!
B- Dub is your hmr 308 really that good , nice
I just recently bought one too, and yes they are that nice. I use to be a die hard Remington 700 fan, but you can buy the HMR for about the same price or less than you can the Remington 700 in a Magpul Hunter stock. It has more features a smoother action and a better trigger. The HMR for the money is pretty hard to beat.
I have one too. It's wearing a vortex viper.
A very heavy, but nice rifle.
If it wasn't on film, I would have not believe it, dude knows his DOPE😎
This is awesome! I wanna try this! I see there are 9 shooters that are quite upset cuz they likely spent $5k+ on their 1-mile rigs. Lol!!
As someone learning on a stock Savage 11 Hog Hunter in .308 this is truly inspiring. Thank you for posting this!
You can do this with a savage 11 no problem. Cheaper rifles but they dump most of the development funds into an accurate barreled action. Savage rifles have accuracy similar to rifles 2x their price
Now that is what I call bragging rights! Congratulations 1 mile is a feat for anyone less than someone running a sub $1,500 complete factory setup.
Got to love his name is 'Chance' too -- well done, great shooting, thanks for sharing with us!
Dam! That must be a badass feeling being able to hit that. Congrats.
Seeing is believing! Great shot man!
mile with a .308!!!💪yuuh
Congrets from Brazil, great shooter!
Thanks for sharing with us!
Bergara salesmen of the year. So sick!
that was no fluke / stroke of luck either.. he hit that steel repeatedly!! amazing shot, excellent shooting! makes me feel even better about my swfa optic as well, lol!
Nice job man. I got a Ruger American rifle .307 myself and wow i love my rifle. Good job man.
Thats an achievement!!!! So good!!!
You can have the best gear but you can’t buy range time and skill! Good shooting! 👏 👏
Well done for sure!!!
I showed up to shoot skeet with my old man, I had a used and abused 870 Turkey gun with 21” barrel. My fancy shell holder was my BDU shorts I cut off, out shot and torqued off a bunch of the fancy guys.

Bryce's response is the greatest thing ever
Excellent shot!!
Deadly excellent shooting
Nice shooting guys from the UK👍
60 moa base! Nice shooting
Bob Lee Swagger just sweeping up at practice
Bro, keep up the good work with that .308Win.
This proves everything I have ever preached since I started shooting.
Very nice. I hope you saved the load data on that round. One more for the 308 win ! 👍🏼
OUTSTANDING!!!
awesome job, congratulations.
well done, thats brilliant
Wow, truly amazing!
Awesome!
Nice!!!!!!!!! Gives me hope!
The shot of a lifetime for sure!
I would like to learn a thing or two in reloading from this guy! Nice shooting!
308 has been killing motherfuckers for years all around the world. Fuck more expensive calibers, if he is past a 1000 yards I will just get closer. :P
Nice shot great distance 👌
Well shit... i just dropped $3800 on a HK, 2200 on a Luepold mark5... spuhr mount, atlas bipod... sandman L can... 10 bucks I cant hit that jug... damnit.
Good job Ordax
Oh Yea! Great shot.
That is amazing nice set up
Amazing shot. Nice work, Chance.
Insane!
Comon LRSU, make some more of these great videos please!
Keep contemplating rebarreling my 308 to 260, 6.5cr, 7mm-08...I think I'll just keep it as is and PRACTICE & LEARN more. :-)
that was impressive
Awesome shooting
The perfect scope
Very, very good i,m happy for you.
I want to try this with the Ruger American Rifle I just picked up!!!
I just picked up a Bergara B14 chambored in 7mm-08. I would love to go out and shoot with you all someday. Not sure how to get into it. Thanks for the videos, pretty cool.
regardless of the hype,, the 308 is still hard to beat,,,,,
.308 is definitely no slouch, but there are far better and ballistically superior options now. Number cant lie. Id love to know how many mils he had dialed into his scope.
Nevermind, he stated in the video, 29 mils plus 60 moa base(appx 20 mil base) so call it 59 mils elevation for math sake. 1609 meters in a mile. 1 mil at 1000 meters is 100 centimeters so 160 cm at 1 mile. Now multiply 160 centimeters times 59 mils and you get 9440 centimeters or 94.4 meters. That bullet dropped 94.4 meters from line of bore. I dare you to compare that to the 6.5 Creedmoor, .260 Remington, 6x47 Lapua or another 6.5 or 7mm short action caliber and see how the numbers compare. yeah, that .30 cal got there but it dropped like a stone in between.
ontarioknivesNS7.
Yup like a sore pecker. Hard to beat!
Why would you want to do it even with a creedmoor. I’d choose a 243 win than that.
Everyone knows the drop difference. The deal is the bullet still got there as accurately as a creedmoor and honestly probably with more momentum.
Ooh! and tumbling like a 223 so that it creates a bigger wound cavity. Doesn’t matter if it was with a 45-70. If it’s accurate it’s accurate. This just shows how butt hurt 308 haters get when people prove that 308 is just as accurate as the next round.
Good work.....
this guy is amazing
Nice!
Very impressive, even by seeing the impact on the gong
Cool for the guys to give him them things for hitting that jug 1 mile
VERY NICE
Bergara+168 smk (preferably 175smk imho for elr)+swfa+2800fps plus on a 168smk...=success
Right on dude. I'm going to try that with a savage. Only 1.5 miles.. Yea...
Right.....
Hey man nice shot
Myself and a couple co workers have a bet that with a factory 308 with a 3x9 - 40MM and 150 grain bullet I can't nail a 12 inch plate from 450. Last weekend sighted in at 100 currently have a quarter inch shot group. Thinking after this video I got a pretty good chance
Good luck. You should be fine. Let us know.
@@thews9237 I think I'll be fine. Waiting on my co worker to get his ammo reloaded
Amazing
Hello you good congratulations I have never done it saludos. The Spaniards make good rifles I m getting me one
"That's why I say man, nice shot
What a good shot man."
Great song
Grandios!
i want that guy on my team!
looks like im keeping my 308 now..
Now let's not go and do anything crazy now. Look at how many more have completed the 1 mile with a 6 and 6.5 and you might put her back up for sale. He's just a gluten for punishment.
Youre a very good shooter,i,m happy for you, youre one best shooter in a WORLD.
idiot.
For what,idiot.
Congratulations is right. Holy macaroni and cheese.
Sweet
I’ve done this with my Daniel defense .308 20” barrel. My loads were 42.5g of imr 4895 with 168g A-max bullet. And 40g of N-135 using 176g A-Tips. With magnum primers.
Shot a mile or shot a milk jug at a mile?
@@LongRangeShootersofUtah I’ve shot a few milk jugs at a mile also a watermelon some with a .308 and a lot with a .338 lapua furthest hit on 24”x24” steel is at 2550 yards using a trg42 in .338 lapua magnum.
Very cool to see Chance making it happen, especially with my custom kydex cheek rest for perfect eye alignment.
Sincerely,
Matthew
#MatthewsFabrication
i have a bergara hmr in 6.5 creedmoor i would love to try this challenge.
Bergara sales after this 🤣
Agerage flight time at 5 seconds? Don't .308 travel at 2400 ft./sec.? That seems strange that the bullet would slow exponentially over that distance. Obviously it begins to slow right out of the barrel but it just seems alot. Id like to try to calculate that rate of speed drop and repost. Nice going btw. Hell of a shot
Most of the time it’s the jerk behind the trigger. He was on even before he hit the jug, watched a lot of fancy high dollar rigs not preform that well, in a fancy caliber.
👍👍
That is almost hard to believe. It would be very interesting to know what that trajectory was and what the flight time is.
flight time was 4-4.5 seconds.
All the more impressive it was done with a barrel using a sporter profile.
Nice! I noticed the hole in the jug was "round"... It was still stabilized at that distance?
Stabilization isn't so much a factor of being either Stablized or Not but rather degress of stabilization. It certainly has lost some stabilization at that distance being that I'd been transonic or subsonic for at least a couple hundred yards but the design of that bullet is so forgiving that it loses that stability less dramatically than more aggressive bullets. At least that's my hypothesis based on conversations i've had with extreme long range shooters that spend the majority of their time beyond transonic.
New Life Goal Discovered: Poke a milk jug at a mile with .308
Excellent Shooting. I'm curious about something though. It's a .308 with 22" barrel and he mentions he's using 168gr AMAX with 42.1gr of IMR4064 and getting 2840fps. 2840fps? That doesn't seem correct to me. It seems way fast for the load mentioned.
Yeah I’m using a faster burning powder on both my loads and a shorter barrel I’m getting close to 2650 with the loads i mention and I shoot a mile all the time and get good results.
What range was this at? It's good to know there are ranges with targets out a mile!
North Springs Shooting Range in Price Utah. Targets out to 2240
How large is the plate behind the jug?
I have this in 30-06
What lengh barrel an twist are you running to push those 168's so fast? Is that a hot load? I'm using 44.2g. Varget behind 168.Berger classic hunter and only getting 2,715 out of m.v. Guess I need more powder. LoL
From Bergara website The (#3) Bergara 4140 CrMo steel barrel is finished in matte blue and is available in 22 inches in the short action. The twist rate for a 308/1:10
@@AntiWatchWatchClub Interesting, but not every 308 is a 1/10.
Fokking badass
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I use a Walmart Barska scope which cost $60 and I can hit steel out to 1000 yards with my .224 valkyrie!!!!
getting a Mormon chimo vibe here...
HOLY SHIT !!!!!!!! ***********
Curious to how many MIL’s or minutes of adjustment were needed for this hit?
I’m not sure what he had dialed but I just ran the numbers with factory 168 gr match and it’s roughly 100 moa.
I was dialed at 29 MILS with a 60 MOA base
12x scope?? Here I was thinking I need to get a 25x scope for shots up to 500 yards...
Not really. Field of view is important.
Just got me a Tikka T3X in 308 win. Anyone do a mile with a Tikka yet?
outstanding sh0t
im curious how much it dropped making it out there
29 mils of elevation
+ 60 moa rail. This just proves it doesn’t matter how much “drop” around has if it’s accurate it’s accurate. If a shooter is good. And If it were a 45 acp round shooting 1/4 moa and enough elevation it’s going to hit.
I’m not trying to discredit this, but I’m pretty sure he’s shooting a 6.5 creed not .308. The 308 comes in 20” I have one that barrel looks like a 22” that the 6.5 come in. If it is the 308 then hell yeah. I just got the 308. Either way great shooting and cheers from Utah
It is a 22 inch and it is a 308. You are correct that there are only a very few Bergara 308 models that come in barrels greater than 20 inch(to my consternation). The B14 Hunter, in 308(Model B14S101) is one of them. BTW, I own the B14 Hunter in 308. Just bought it last week and went to the range yesterday to shoot it. Awesome gun.
great shot. Would you mind doing a video on proper positioning while seated? The only range I can shoot 100+ yards requires me to sit at a stool and I'm not too sure if my position is proper
I'll see what I can do. Do you follow us on Instagram or Facebook? It would be quicker and easier to post something there than here on UA-cam.
Yes! I've got you guys on facebook. Thank you so much, I genuinely appreciate it.
