Instagram as finally enabled RTMP livestreaming, which allows us to use OBS Studio and other RTMP livestreaming Software to livestream to Instagram without needing the Instagram app.
All you need to to is set-up OBS Studio on your computer, log-in to Instagram, click on create then Live video. Instagram will then provideo you with the RTMP URL as well as Stream Key needed for OBS studio to directly livestream to Instagram.

Important: Use h264 codec in OBS video settings. Instagram cannot recieve h265

Im facing a weird issue where my stream works great for about 30 mins or so, and then ends by itself
I'm doing a live dj set so I have to open up another apps while I stream at the same time but my network is strong and stable.
Do you have any idea how to fix this issue?
is there a way to put the chat feed of Instagram on OBS??? Im livestreaming Twitch and Instagram at the same time. But it's a pain having to leave chrome open and to look now and then the comments there, sometimes I just forget. is there a workaround?

I only received a small feedback from the audience and that was about the broadcast sound being mono. İn my signal chain evetything looks like normal but if you have an idea about it thatll be precious for me. Peace✌️
If OBS indicated Stereo in the mixer this must be a Instagram issue. To make sure double-check the audio portion of the OBS settings menue.
@@GreenBoxMedia yeap i find the answer; all about instagram. if you go livestream its mono, but you can upload reels and post with stereo sound.
Hey, Im trying to do a live set too but apparently the live stream gets ended by itself after 30 mins or so...Any idea what the issue can be?

RTMP Streams are always delayed. That's how they work. The Audio loop probably comes from your OBS picking up your own stream when previewing it with audio on.

There is a delay, have you tried waiting for about 2 minutes?
What's your stream set to because it's telling me that recordings cannot be paused if recording quality is set to "Same as stream".
This doesn't really have to do anything with the content of this video. - If you need to be able to pause and resume a local recording, you can switch to the advanced output settings.
There is a big issue with using OBS. You can not accept guests on your instagram feed. But great video. I really appreciated it.
I've been looking for a solution to streaming live on IG and be able to have guests. Can it be done with OBS? Is there another tool that has figured it out?

preview is not working idk why since yesterday
My laptop started whirring after starting stream. I would suppose streaming audio only would get rid of that. Or I just need to get a new PC.
Streaming is a high-performance task. If you have a low-end or older PC your laptop might reach its power-limit
@greenbox I can't make it work. The stream stops or the signal isn't strong or stable enough. :(
Do you get any error message in OBS? Or what does the Activity log in Instagram show?
How to screen share for live stream?
When I log into my Instagram account the only thing I see under Create is "Drag From My Computer." There is no "Live Video" option. Do I have to turn that on in my Instagram settings somewhere? (Running macOS Ventura, using Brave browser (Chrome-based).

Yes in the sense that your OBS needs to have access to the internet in order to reach the Instagram servers.
You can also use the FREE vertical plugin for OBS and stream to both UA-cam (horizontally) and IG (vertically).

I have one problem. it doesn't work for me and it is asking me to go live on Facebook when I click on find stream key even though I have the same URL as Instagram.

I am not sure if this supports duos yet, there is a good chance it does not. You might have to test this with someone first.

The max resolution is 720p as described in the Instagram Blog post.

Not really, you can try to take away any processing work on Instagram's end by getting as close to their recommended settings as possible.

What equipment do you use or recommend?
It depends what your goal is and the produced content is. For smooth operation of OBS a basic entry gaming computer with dedicated graphics card is fine. For your audio an inexpensive USB microphone can be enough or if you move around a lot a wireless lav mic might be the right choice
For the camera anything from a inexpensive USB webcam all the way up to the more expensive vertical camera with 20x optical zoom I used can work. You technically could even hook an entire TV mixing setup up to this.
It really depends on what you want to do.
On my channel there are some Videos about equipment maybe you get an idea of what you want there.

I’m using my iPhone as a camera device, I’ve followed all of the instructions and it’s working great EXCEPT, one problem I’m having is the preview/footage Is always defaulting to landscape in portrait,
So to footage is always sideways, even when I rotate my iPhone no matter which way it’s being held it adjusts itself to stay sideways

I can't live stream on Instagram. there is no option to Live Video in Instagram Web or in PC ver.

What do you mean? Chat appears on the website as soon as you go live and is displayed over the video in the instagram client for viewers.

No, this is how to stream to Instagram.
For TikTok you need to be a verified creator that gets access to the RTMP Streaming first before using OBS for streaming.
