Tony, make sure your gear ratios are the same in the front and rear differentials, if not that will tear some stuff up! I figure you would check it but just in case it was an oversight.
I have the same setup in my Denali. Make sure both diffs are the same ratio and front and rear tire diameter are the same or you'll tear the clutches out if the awd transfer case.
I had a buddy in high school that dropped a 350 into an early 90s S10 with an off-road setup. It was decently fast and really loud. This truck build is sick!
I did a 96 & built my own wiring harness from both trucks to make everything look stock, until you saw it had no fan it looked like the 4.3 in it. I put 2 smaller fans behind the grille pushing air through & it only ran hot if you went to the drive through in the summer. That thing was insane.
When I was younger, I spent a fair bit of time at the drag strip. There were a lot of guys that would drop 350s into 2wd s-10s and Chevy luvs. They were pretty quick with even with minimal motor work.

One thing I will say, a boat Intake manifold to get a normal fuel injection setup instead of the TBI. Boat manifolds for a 4.3 look like a mini tpi....... Just FYI, I own 3 bravadas and specifically the bravada with "smart track" 98 and up isn't really the good setup, before that has a really good AWD transfer case(the one you have) that actually splits torque front to back, where the later model bravada with "smart track " has a borg Warner single speed 231, automatic 4x4 with no low range, that operates the same as full size automatic 4x4 (using all the wheel position sensors to monitor difference front to back and automatically engage the transfer case with the body control module when it detects slip) They do however have the full time locked front diff. Any of the normal 4x4 transfer cases hold up fine, but it's not the traditional viscous coupler AWD that "splits torque". Just for anyone looking to do the same.

Cool project guys. If I’m not mistaken the engine that you’re installing is a “W” engine which has a balance shaft and has some different things going on. It should use the 2114 intake because it’s a vortec engine. You mentioned that you were using a 2111 which is for the non vortec engine. You may want to check out the gear ratios for the front and rear. They have to be the same otherwise you will have issues, so you may want to steal the rear differential carrier from the Astro. Also I think that the frame mount will need to be changed out to accommodate the mounting of the engine. Maybe from an earlier model S10. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Good luck

I mentioned it back when you sold the Porsche but its worth saying again. Those wheels would look sick in some black PVD Chrome! Would cost a bit of money to have the wheels redone vs some paint or powder coat but not a lot more.

Gotta love the GM lego kits, little bit of this one and a bit of that one. Pretty sure you are going to have to get that carb built specialy for the blow through though, I could be wrong but I don't think a normally vacuum driven carb likes being pressure fed and there is some special stuff like shaft seals that need to be modified. The other way is to put the whole carb in a pressure box with just an external throttle linkage and fuel pass through, or just go Holley EFI, hope that helps.

A friend back in the day had one of the Chattanooga Custom Astro vans that could be bought at any Chevy/GMC dealer and I don't care what anyone says that thing was the banger. Super plush seats, raised roof, dual A/C, it had TV and sweet paint and wheels. Very nice.
I love that this is just sooo focused, proper sweaty, everyone up to their elbows in dirt smashing the shit. You've got more done in 2 days than some shops get done in 6 months. It's usually when you really problem solve properly and get clear simple inventive fixes to problems because you have that 'giterdun' momentum behind you. Ace work!! Knocking it out of the park....;D
I like how you guys just make sure the shit works, clean it up a little and slap it together. You're not completely rebuilding everything and spending 70 grand on performance parts. It's a lot more realistic and achievable for a backyard mechanic like myself. I've personally owned 10 s10s and blazer/Jimmies. I love those little trucks and Syclone in good shape is one of my dream cars. Now that I know I can throw one together by cannibalizing an astro van, I think I'll just make my own. Thanks guys.
Love this build. Watching all the modern boosted-LS GMT’s with factory AWD traction really makes this project seem amazingly bang-for-the-buck. Looking forward to more.
My first project messing around with a megasquirt as a kid setup years ago was a 4.3l turbo swap into a manual 98 firebird. It's liberating to have something as a teenager that was affordable to the point of not being afraid to just thrash it to learn this and that. My daily was a 99 Trans Am Firehawk that I kept pretty much stock outside a conservative tuneup along with the first owner's built transmission and suspension setup (late 50s gentlemen had it to take to car shows to avoid putting miles on his collectable corvettes, lol) so the 4.3l turbo car was something a friend and I learned a lot about wiring, setting up fuel injection, coils, the computer itself, tuning, etc. The junkyard owner local gave us all kinds of parts to mess with in exchange for me redoing their computers/database to move up from a 386 machine in the 00s.
This is gonna be a great build! Can wait to see the results. Know it’s gonna be better than that Cyclone you looked atBeer and a Slice Time! Ready to Stay Tuned 🤘🤘🔥
@@StayTunedTA back in mid 90’s I built a 4.3. Summit used to sell aluminum heads for them had a 4 barrel 2 pc intake from summit I’m sure there are many more and much better parts now

Respect for the build , my dad purchased a 1993 grand caravan with the 3.3l , my friends dad purchased a 1993 safari 4.3 vortec RWD , we just got our license so we ran from a dig and roll , safari outperformed evry time.
Fun project! Wife had a 92 GMC Sonoma with a short bed when we met. 4.3 throttle body injection with a 5 speed, 4wd. That thing ripped! So fun to drive!
this has been a fantasy project of mine for years! Donor cars you didn't mention is the awd GMC Safari van, Jimmy, and Sonoma - basically rebadged Astros, Blazer, and S10
I like how Tony was commenting, how this kind of project, building something fun and fast for cheap, gives him more excitement than just whipping out the credit card and paying out the wazoo for super high end parts for everything... though of course expensive speed stuff can be fun too, just not in the cards for most mere mortals. This, is the essence of hot rodding. Fun project you can throw things together for cheap. Can't wait to see how well the Sike Clone runs.
Back in 2004 I got the pleasure working on one of the Cyclone's, except for it had a slightly bigger Turbo on it. Endless four wheel drive tire smoke for sure.
The vehicle i learned to drive on is that exact starting s-10 but in a 2 tone tan and brown. Regular cab 4x4 5 speed with the 2.8. Sooo slow but also unbreakable.
Haven owned a bunch of s10 trucks, this 4x4 truck was in great shape and a steel at the price paid for it. They had rust problems and not many are in this kinda shape still. This makes me Wana find a good 1 and do this.
I had a clapped red 94 s10 single cab short bed with a 4.3 v6 when I was in highschool. It was 2wd but I drove the dogs outta it. Confirmed ripper even with an auto. S10/s15 (Sonoma guys I see you) is a slept on platform. I always regretted not keeping it and wrenching on it more but it was early 2000s. I'll live vicariously here.
My uncle had an 89 s10. That thing was pretty gnarly out of the factory. (At least to a 16 year old in 1993) It shifted super firm, had plenty of power for a small truck, and sounded pretty decent doing it.
I just finished my fake syclon . It’s a 1991 s10 4x4 but it’s N/A only. Some day I’ll boost it. I had to shorten the front drive shaft. It came out of a Astro van as well.. Mine measures 27” . The Astro is much longer. Hope all goes well with it.
I had a 1991 AWD Safari that I lowered, put wheels on it, put a customized Mustang spoiler on the roof in back, painted it up with typical 90s graphics, and then best of all.... I replaced the wimpy V-6 with a healthy 406 sbc. I removed the grill, radiator, and core support, and I was able to easily R&R the engine through the front with a common engine cherry picker crane. The V-8 fit right in, and all I had to do was move the frame side engine mounts a few inches forward on the cross member, and then reinforce the edge of the motor mounts that then hung slightly off the front side of the cross member with a 4" long piece of 2"×2" angle iron welded on the front side of the cross member right under the mounts. No big deal, then I was able to get bolts into the 2 front holes of the mounts, and through the angle iron, which would have otherwise been hanging off the frame and going into nothing but air. Held the 450 h.p. engine in there just fine. I blew the factory rear diff carrier several times, until I installed a G-Force posi unit in there, and that cured that issue. The rest of the drivetrain components held up to the copious amounts of beating that I put it through for the next decade. I could put it into low gear, rhythmically tromp on and off the throttle, and get air under the front tires after a few bounces. It ran mid 13's at the track, and was the ULTIMATE bachelor party wagon. We had an absolute BLAST with the thing, ESPECIALLY when we would blow away, and completely embarrass, a Mustang GT from a stop light with 8 passengers in our vehicle. 😆 The looks on those Mustang owners faces was priceless EVERY time.... the shame and embarrassment. 🤣 What a FUN vehicle it was!
My first truck in 2001 was a 1982 S10 with a 350. 22 years later and I still have it in the same condition. With a little power and some fun suspension bits these are very fun sport trucks.
Old guy story here. In 1990 Flint, Michigan, I spied what I assume was a syclone test truck. Every panel was a different color. It was all nice paint, just all different. No back bumper. Manufacturer tag. Obviously a 4wd chassis, but low. Exhaust looked like a 3in straight out the back where the bumper would be. I could hear the whoosh of the turbo as he took off. Had what looked like bravada wheels without center caps on the back, but with some aftermarket looking gold mesh wheels on the front.
I'm excited for you to see the potential of the 92-94 4.3 which shared the Mahle internals with the Syclone also. Only because the Astro has been my dream vehicle for decades, I must share some missed opportunities. The radiator support unbolts out of your way with this older body style. The hydro-boost brake system you junked is shared by the 1-ton trucks of the era. Why lose the advantage of the Astro's lower center of gravity and lighter/wider frame? The rocker panel pinch-weld you attempted to lift from is a facade, and not structural. Notice where the rear suspension bolts, and you will realize the unusually strong unibody. Sub-frame connectors to the artificial frame-rails under there will allow substantial abuse. I say put some new body mounts on the old Astro if you still have it to compare performance with the heavier/narrower S-10 platform. Thanks a million for even giving the best Astro power-plant a chance to shine!
As a guy thats owned 5 or 6 s10 truck's so ar in my 40 yeas, i love this build. Everyone and his brother wanted the syclone if they liked the s10. The v8 swap is bad ass, but ye 4.3 turbo is way more interesting. ❤
I had a 1996 GMC Jimmy Santa Fe Edition (with the conversion van tuft interior) that was PPG Platinum Pearl White with a body kit, Lexani 22s, slammed on bags, it had 12 10" subs, 8 TVs, and it won Best in Show at NOPI Nationals back in 2003. It was fairly quick and a BLAST to drive in the snow in 4WD because I would literally floor it and drift it. Also, when I first turbocharged my 1997 EJ8 Civic coupe I bought an eBay turbo/manifold/downpipe/wastegate kit for $400 and it used that same turbo. It lasted on that VTEC single cam for 15,000 miles with no issues, then I swapped in a non-VTEC B series and used that same turbo for 20,000 miles of absolute abuse, then I rebuilt the engine and cranked the turbo up to 15 psi, made 412 whp, and I gave it to my buddy when I bought my Turbonetics and he used it on his 500 whp EG Civic hatch with a B18C1 in it. If you get a good Chinese turbo, (one in 10 are good), it'll last forever.
This is kind of like Grindhard Plumbing where they just come up with crazy builds, high quality content. Gets me a little more motivated to tear down my parts truck so I can get what I need for my real build, an LSA supercharger in a 2500HD Sierra
I own a 4.3 liter V6 1989 Chevrolet Tahoe edition S10 with only 50k miles on it. I've never been beaten in a half mile ever. There is nothing more fun to drive.
Damn, watching you guys make stuff happen, was AWESOME. And PIZZA! Back in 1991 I saw a Syclone and a typhoon on the showroom floor in Corpus Christi, Texas. It was tempting but !!
This is going to be cool! Next shirt is “Batten down the hatches!” with an image of the truck, “Psych-lone” below it and lightning bolts around it. Very 80s Rock vibe. 😎
Stick an E85 carby on there and feed it some corn juice to help counter what I assume will be the higher compression of the NA motor. Honest, that's the reason I'm suggesting it. It has nothing to do with making it faster. 😁
Love this build. Just a tip, instead of oil dry, use a smaller squeegee and a big dust pan. Take the oil into the dust pan with the squeegee. Spray some degreaser on the floor and mop. Much quicker, and way less of a mess than oil dry/cat litter. That shit gets everywhere. Hate oil dry in my shop.

I was kinda losing faith. Finally a show that vibes like u and Lucky. There will be no more S10s or Astros in 3mo.
I love when tony uploads for the weekend. You guys rock. Keep up the content it’s the best.
Thanks so much! Appreciate it!
That cpi 4.3 mad just over 200hp factory should be a really good start
Can’t wait to see how this turns out
Us too, thanks for watching!!
Hell yea man! Thanks for watching, enjoy!
HellYeah! Always will 🤘🤘🔥🍺🍕
@@StayTunedTA back in mid 90’s I built a 4.3. Summit used to sell aluminum heads for them had a 4 barrel 2 pc intake from summit I’m sure there are many more and much better parts now
Clicked for the Syclone tribute, stayed for the absolutely hilarious back-and-forth dad banter and clowning around from Tony and his buddies!
Nice!!so glad you passed on the Syclone before, really glad you're doing this the way you are.Been building these for 20 years because I am poor project wise and hope to see how you guys evolve from here.Love your content and am always looking forward to what you guys are doing.
Really appreciate it man, we’re having fun and building it our way!
Lucky Costa would be a big help! Both Tony and Lucky are both great tech instructors!
what oil pan did you use the one on the 4.3 i have is to big i need one to clear the tcase i literally have the exact same truck same color and everything lol but oil pan is the only thing holdin me back let me know
Yes me too I just need to clear the front pumpkin
Same what kind of oil pan
Respect for the build , my dad purchased a 1993 grand caravan with the 3.3l , my friends dad purchased a 1993 safari 4.3 vortec RWD , we just got our license so we ran from a dig and roll , safari outperformed evry time.
Some real Angelo's Gym content in this one! Def a fun project.
Fun project! Wife had a 92 GMC Sonoma with a short bed when we met. 4.3 throttle body injection with a 5 speed, 4wd. That thing ripped! So fun to drive!
When the sawzall and grinder come out you know Tone & Crew mean business.😅 Besides the Firebird, this is my favorite Stay Tuned build yet! ❤
So much appreciation for showing real rust belt work. I feel seen!
Make sure that you check the gear ratios between the diffs sometimes awd stuff has funky ratios
Will do, thanks for the heads up!
this has been a fantasy project of mine for years! Donor cars you didn't mention is the awd GMC Safari van, Jimmy, and Sonoma - basically rebadged Astros, Blazer, and S10
I'll add that 4.3 and sbc trannys may or may not be interchangeable due to varying bolt patterns so do your research!
Tony this is amazing as usual, you're knocking it outta the park dude. Rock on. ❤
Wanted to build one of these for over 20 years! Ever since high school when had S-10 with 350 5 speed. Street legal go kart!
Loving the fresh content and builds!! Excellent job guys!
Those 4.3 AWD mini vans were so cool. Need to build stuff like that again
This is wat every video should be!!!! Mad progress of the process 😀😀😀
Thanks! Appreciate it! Cheap nasty speed is the best kind of speed!
I like the story of the japanese crazy all wheel drive guys, gives a good image 🤙
Tony making work fun!
What a FUN vehicle it was!
Content is good, build is great, and with Pizza.
I love that you don't do an intro that I have to skip past.
That's so cool you got to see that! They are the coolest trucks ever.
C4 wheels are sick on the truck.
"Feeding the chickens!" - solid gold. That one is going in my repertoire!
well shit.... "Pepperoni and Cheese... that all you need" solid 2nd place
I for one really appreciate the fact that Tony is wearing PPE during the tear down. Keep up the good work!
This is kind of like Grindhard Plumbing where they just come up with crazy builds, high quality content. Gets me a little more motivated to tear down my parts truck so I can get what I need for my real build, an LSA supercharger in a 2500HD Sierra
You guys are not afraid of hard work!!!! Bravely just dive in and go to town!!!!
Now that's some real hot-rodding right there
I own a 4.3 liter V6 1989 Chevrolet Tahoe edition S10 with only 50k miles on it. I've never been beaten in a half mile ever. There is nothing more fun to drive.
I'm building my real syclone at the same time you're building this. Gotta love turbo 4.3s!❤
Damn, watching you guys make stuff happen, was AWESOME. And PIZZA! Back in 1991 I saw a Syclone and a typhoon on the showroom floor in Corpus Christi, Texas. It was tempting but !!
When Tony was over the oil pan and it cut a way with oil dry all over the floor was classic, but you robbed us of that shot!!!
This is going to be cool! Next shirt is “Batten down the hatches!” with an image of the truck, “Psych-lone” below it and lightning bolts around it. Very 80s Rock vibe. 😎
Heck yeah! Those 4.3L w/5-speed S-10's were fun years ago.
Stick an E85 carby on there and feed it some corn juice to help counter what I assume will be the higher compression of the NA motor. Honest, that's the reason I'm suggesting it. It has nothing to do with making it faster. 😁
Could have grabbed a 97 ish olds bravada with 50/50 awd. Or an Astro van and body swapped it. Either way badass fun build to watch
I wasn't super hyped on this build until you bolted those old Vette wheels on. Now I can't wait for the next upload!
Very cool Tony! I knew a cpl people back in the day, one had a syclone the other a typhoon. That 4.3 turbo will scoot!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
This build is great! Thank you so much for keeping the V6!
heres a fun tip. If you weld on old caster to the bottom on the vehicle, you can pull it on a flat bed without the subframes
