Great content. The left side of Arsenal's attack was lacking in combinational play last season. It was easier for opposition to focus on Saka, Odengaard and Cedric/Tomi. The left side was predictable and direct...always heading to the byline. I believe Arsenal is trying to fix the combinational play on the right in the transfer window and add some technical players. Zincheko is a wonderful addition, waiting for that LCM to make that side tick.
i’m currently most excited for whatever Mikel was trying against Orlando. in attack, Tavares was pushing up to winger, nketiah moved up to become a second striker, and saliba and ben white moved round to become a back three with gabriel. i think this shape is great, because it gets Eddie closer to goal (and to Jesus for that wonderful link-up play), adds another player to the attack (hopefully tierney or zinchenko as opposed to Tavares) and it also holds great defensive cover in white, gabriel, and saliba.
I always tell my fellow arsenal peers that arteta has surely improved our team and they always I just like him too much. Am gonna make sure they watch your channel.

He makes the most dreadful mistakes that cost Arsenal terribly. Last season he caused the exit to the FA Cup and lost out on top 4 because of really pathetic mistakes. How do you play Xhaka at CB, don’t change it the whole game and lose to Southampton? How do you play a player who is out of form in the FA Cup, knowing this, and then taking him off after 18 minutes? He may one day have that, but Arsenal is not a place to learn to manage. Arteta has had now £400m to spend on players, and it looks like this spend gets the expectation of top 4, which I seriously doubt, and would be shocked if it happened! Think about this, give £400m to Conte and guaranteed Tottenham are challenging for the title. He took over a very poor team with 2 world class players half way through the season and ended ahead of Arteta who’d spent £250m. It's not the quantity of uploads but the quality and you have stayed at your high level again here in my view. I would only add "Confidence" somewhere into your analysis, Arteta has provided that essential ingredient, for the players to have confidence in themselves first of all, and their team mates plus confidence in what they are being asked to to, the system, the tactics, individual roles, that is another noticeable difference to me since the FA Cup Win. Confidence not to be confused with cockiness by the way.
Amazing and comprehensive analysis, I really enjoyed it. Small request: please add more simplified graphs because it helps to communicate the insights.
Thanks - I thought about this, I’d prefer to encourage people to pause and look themselves than make them less complicated. They’re not actually mine. They’re usually from Scott Willis on Twitter. Appreciate the support!
Arteta in the first season set him in the high level standard by winning the FA cup. Then IMO he bring revolution, process and progress. I see formation, tactic and players evolve. Last season we lack of backup players, make us out from UCL spot. Great content mate, greetings from BALI. #COYG.
also plenty of unlucky events last season (again, especially with injuries to Tomiyasu, Tierney, and Partey, arguably the most important Arsenal player last season).
Your points are spot on, and completely showed last night in our demolition of Chelsea! The press was flawless, new players like Jesus, Saliba, Odegaard have given us more pace, stamina, pressing ability and technicality, and we are far more direct - shooting more often, always looking forward - I can count on one hand how many times we were actually in our own half! COYG
Great analysis. I also think there's something to be said for the measured increase in aggression as well as some use of the dark arts, punctuating games with beneficial moments. ;-)
Good players and vibes arguably won Real Madrid the UCL last season. They did have a clear tactical plan, one that had clear tweaks and adjustments that were consistent throughout their run but the greatest factor in their win was most definitely the fact they had great players that vibed exceedingly well and refused to quit no matter how bad the situation was.
This is a quality breakdown! Off the back of your analysis, I can't help but agree that the future is bright... BUT... In my mind, there are a few places where this breaks down. Teams have been able to mentally unsettle us quite a bit over the course of last season (thinking more recently of Newcastle and Crystal Palace). Also how do you think this works out in the long term if we don't get CL football? Bigger teams are already applying pressure to buy our players because we don't have CL allure, and it's only a matter of time before players like Saka, Martinelli, Saliba, Gabriel etc. get offers to play for CL consistent teams
Arsenal fans are too easy to please. Arteta failed miserably so far, hasn't won anything apart from a fluke FA cup win in his first season. The point is to win trophies.
