How Arsenal Start Winning Again & Why Mikel Merino is So Important…for everyone

- As Leandro Trossard poked a William Saliba cross agonizingly wide in the last seconds of Arsenal's 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, it felt like another moment that slipped the Gunners by in a season marred by injury, red cards, and that notorious term, 'variance'. Mikel Arteta's men find themselves 4 points off Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, and 9 back from Arne Slot's Liverpool. So, how do Arsenal turn things around and mount a challenge for the 2024/25 Premier League title? This video will look at what Arteta can take tactically from Chelsea 1-1 Arsenal, and focus too on what a full strength Arsenal looks, and plays like.
I dive into Mikel Merino's positive cameo vs Chelsea, as well as the dynamics of Arsenal's build-up with the returning Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, and Thomas Partey; and how a shift in roles for Rice, Jurrien Timber, and Riccardo Calafiori's imminent return from injury rejigs the dynamics.
To finish, I provide an analysis of Arsenal's current out of possession set-up, why Arteta's changes against Chelsea show the need to return to the defensive dominance of last season, and why that may not be too far away in 2024/25.
I hope you enjoy this tactical analysis, as I delve into Arteta's tactics and how Arsenal move forward after the international break, where they will be looking to put together a series of wins through the help of Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, David Raya, and many more.
This channel covers the entire Premier League, including Manchester United, Ruben Amorim, Spurs, Ange Postecoglou, Aston Villa, Unai Emery, Enzo Maresca, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Eddie Howe, the Champions League, and much more! - Спорт
Harvey is easily the best analyser of Arsenal that I have seen for some time .
He is on another level and deserves a career in the game doing this type of work.
A real credit to his Dad
Graham, thank you so much for such lovely words. I am genuinely touched. I’m trying to keep it in the family if I can 🥰
You’ll always be one of my inspirations for getting into this space-and having your support is something I will never take for granted.
I hope we get to speak again shortly. ❤️
It would be an honour to see you two collaborate more often together. Two extremely intelligent and humble people who both deserve every good thing coming your way!
That’s so so kind of you. Thank you so much. Graham is genuinely the founding father of tactics and arsenal tactics on social media. Would love to be able to speak to him again.
I think you were the first ever person to comment on one of my videos mate, and I just wanted to say thank you once again for always supporting me. I won’t forget it!
Really nice to see a caster whose USP is intelligence. Good vid bud. Subscribed.
Very kind of you to take the time to comment. Welcome❤️❤️
Genuinely a masterpiece, Harv. The introduction was poignant and full of perspective; the analysis was insightful and eloquent. Another banger ❤
the best channel for Arsenal fans🎉
Too kind of you. We are all so lucky there are so many to choose from! ❤️
The best channel for weak Arsenal fans who think winning nothing for 4 years running after spending a billion euros is 'progress'

Thanks for the video and for giving us some much-needed belief after a tough patch of games and injuries. I know I’m being optimistic, but with a fully fit starting 11, I can really see us winning at least 24 out of the remaining 27 games!
You’re welcome! The league is so so difficult, it’s true. I think we’ve got a really good chance to put a run together leading up to the new year. Then let’s see where we are at. :)))
You briefly stated my biggest issue with the centralisation of Partey in our midfield. For what he gives us in possession technically, I feel we are often susceptible to Partey’s over aggression at times
at this point arteta needs to admit we lack creative players and go get some. i hope we finally something about this
Hope & Next Year FC
@@BrianConlon-ng5bwyou're everywhere displaying your low iq and glaring immaturity, your frontal lob is seriously underdeveloped. Are arsenal fans not allowed to analyze performances and take away positives from them. If you're too dumb to understand it hust say so. How about focus on your own team for once
@@BrianConlon-ng5bwcorrect 😂
Decent analysis; but illogical at times.
Every positive play you highlight involves Partey, Odegaard and Merino…yet you casually dismiss Partey as being important going forward?
You English need to get over the Rice bias and stop speaking about what he can do as opposed to what he’s doing or not doing.
Bias? Or knowing DRs incredible powers
If Rice had broken shoulder not Merino we would be up there, imo. He would also have come back fresh
You’re making me understand the football easier
Very kind of you mate, that makes me super glad❤️
I'm quite optimistic, once Merino + Calafiori get integrated i personally think we'll be able to unlock Martinelli and our right side bias for attacking and creativity will reduce drastically.
Absolutely -- all left footed /strength / duel dominance / confidence
Fantastic analysis and positive energy, you've earned my sub - sending love from South Korea 🙏🙏
Thanks so much! So glad you enjoyed ❤️
Nice one Harvey. I believe we can still win the premiership this season if we do what we did after Christmas last season
Hope so James! You’re welcome :)
😂😂😂
“IF”…. No Dubai trip this year… no Christmas break either.
You lot are doomed
Whats your take on the signings we need in January
Great question. Depends what the club sum the window up as by the time we get there.
For forwards, if we want versatility: Adeyemi, Williams, Semenyo (B’Mouth). If we want marquee, Osimhen’s release clause is very tempting (think it only comes available in the summer though).
More midfield recruits, Baleba if we want an engine room update and 6/8 depth. Basically covering a Partey departure to Saudi (only realistic bit of movement I see happening).
Defence won’t get added to, but looking towards the summer. A Hato to replace Tomi/Kiwior.
That’s where I’m at currently on first thoughts.
@@harveygration You need to lay off the pipe
Harvey i have a question, what happened to arsenal's transition play? Before any arsenal game i always predict that all we're going to do is just ping crosses into the box and no other creativity. Rice is too conservative for a 6. Never passed foward. He isn't a 10 so is he making this team better or worse?
Well I thought I was d only one who noticed Merino's impact coming in that match... It's why I rate this analysis and though I don't agree with the part of Rice being the 6 over partey to help with the incision and flow in the midfield I feel partey has more unpredictability and incisive passes to boot cause Dec really doesn't do much of that as he's more of the ball carrier as u said @Harvey Gration
Partey is the best midfielder so far so deal with it boy
He didn’t say anything bad about Partey. Lmao
I do think Calafiori is so important for that left side attack. But I worry about his knee.
Everyone is saying that he is a better CB than a LB.
We need a striker to solve our goal problems simple
When all do is just ping wishful crosses into the box I don't think a striker is the problem

We are found lacking and wanting this season, we havent added anything new in the attack, its gon me stale. The midfield has regress ever so slightly. Odegaard back shoukd aid that but he is gna have to heat up fast, i think we missed out again man
We had no central threat with Rice at 6 start last season. Fullbacks may make difference but Rice super power should be covering and sweeping up and he jas been poor at times doing that z(Chelsea goal etc) but probably cos not fit but alsnot comfortable having tobe better footballer further forward
Arsenal to win every premier league game after the international break starting with Nottingham forest 3 nil
Rice driving the ball forward is a myth.
Can you explain how Declan Rice is helping Arsenal??
He is not 😂😂😂
Him carrying the ball vs incision passes slows as so much. Plus his constant back passing
Arsenal fans are so mess up last season when rice was doing so good nobody had these negative to say and now his game dip a little everyone saying this and that give the man a break.
Saka, White, Havertz, and the Arsenal team in general, just weren't prepared for Odegaard's return. We got used to Saka, White, Havertz and Odegaard playing some incredibly intricate and shot creating football at the end of last season. That literally only happened for the goal against Chelsea. Once that returns I'm hoping it will unlock more open play shot creating chances.

Hi Harvey 👋, I hope all is good 👋 👦 ☺️ 👍 😊 🙏. Arsenal needs to press more not just keep possession of the ball and they need to score goals from set pieces like they did last season. COYG to thrash Nottingham Forest God willing 🙏. Have a good day Harvey 😂. Arsenal rocks 🏆 🙏 🤲 🪨 🎸 😎.
11 games in and everyone is in panic mode. Arsenal will come back with a bang. This video has shown why. Good job, Harvey!
Thanks Allan! Putting a run together post break is absolutely vital and will change a lot if we can start getting some momentum like that.
😂😂delusional
No winter break this season.
Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Villa, Brighton will all give you a reality test…
Oh I forgot City.
Lucky to get top 4.

Merino did well to respond to criticism by putting on that kind of display, but I also suspect the shout for Rice at 6 is more to do with how the team got better when Rice was subbed off, rather than how much better he is than the current 6, Thomas Partey. Mikel finds Partey's progressive passing from deep to be critical to his game plan, since the day he became manager.
Merino is average. We're still replace Xhaka.
Bet u will withdraw that by May ‘25
It’s Over
How can anyone in their right mind still back the assistant from Manchester aka Frauteta.
He got rid of every member of an F A cup winning team that him and his worshippers deemed a mess. He spent over £700 million in five years and is still not able to replicate or do better than what the "mess" team did. The people who are still backing the cone man have been bewitched by him.
