- Amazing example of the forgotten tradition of placing female idols (sheela-na-gigs) on churches, castles and wells - which seems to have been particularly popular during the Dark Ages as well as the Norman period but is believed to stem from the Celtic/Pagan times and is certainly shrouded in mystery.

Stunning.. Bruce goes to meet Sheela in Hereford? Pre-australian karma sutra maybe. Interesting figure next to na gig with the four eyes not watching. I seem to remember that Selenium red glazed ceramic tiles, like the ones gilding that apse were mentioned by HG Agrippa for use I think in a practice similar to remote viewing.. wonderful example of technology beautifully maintained Thx for sharing
Despite being a horrible, heretical atheist, I still really appreciate and enjoy the architecture of old churches. Super fun and incredibly insightful video!
Regarding onomatopoeia; "Sheela-Na-Gig" sound very Lovecraftian and invokes imagery of some otherworldly eldritch creature.
Next time I go to visit an old church, I will certainly look up to see if I can find other fun grotesques.

Fascinating, I’d never heard of this before, although😅I did know that pagan traditions were incorporated Christian festivals such as at Christmas, Easter and harvest festival. I subscribed for the mine explorations, but this is equally as interesting and engaging, if somewhat different 😅
