See Meghan's profile at: www.megalithoma... - An exclusive interview with researcher Meghan Rice, who holds an MA in Early Modern History (King's College London) with a concentration in Irish and British history. Her undergraduate dissertation was on sheela-na-gigs, a topic she still avidly pursues, while her MA dissertation discussed why the Tudor English characterised the Irish during that period as 'pagan'. She also works as a 'doula', helping women and couples to have a more rewarding and empowering birth experience, with images of sheela-na-gigs acting as one of the many visualisation tools she employs in this role.

The British and French ones are actually classic gargoyles and not connected to the Irish ones. Hence the 'Christian' backstory. There is every chance they were also crafted in wood and other degradable materials which have been lost to time. The ones on the megalithic Standing Stone on the Hill of Tara (inside the churchyard) gives an insight into their pre-Christian antiquity.

Funny, she acts surprised the interviewer wants to talk about Sheels-Na-Gigs. All this time she thought it was going to be about her strong & thick Boston accent!

Greek Baubo, Baltic Bobo... Can't explain why the church took it up, but the archetype is very old. Likely neolithic or older. She's a gleeful crone, so the fertlity link is sketchy. She's female sexuality without the link to males or childbirth. The lusty, unconstrained, joyful crone.

Super interesting and I love it, but why wear a GAP sweater to an interview. Also, you’re from Boston and now have an English accent. That’s quite an accent shift!

Those things jumped out to me as well. I thought, well maybe she meant she was born in Boston and moved over as a child. But then when Ireland was first mentioned, she seemed to take on an Irish accent briefly.

Boston accents have a LOT in common with Irish accents actually! Especially with the high concentration of Irish-Americans. I wouldn't be surprised if she just accidentally picked up the Irish accent from being in Ireland so much. It seems like it would be a really easy shift to make. I'm from the American south and when I'm around my British friends I tend to accidentally pick up a British accent so it's more common than one might think

Except for the "Genetic Disk", which has a rather odd Sheela on it... found in Columbia. (Jaime Gutierrez-Lega ) Or maybe you are discounting its pedigree..

Theresa Lopez HA! & why not. I'm thinking of setting up as a Hysterical Paroxysm Therapist. I can't think how much to charge for it though.

Committee MeMeD have you been reading my comments on UA-cam for a while? LMAO. I'm a psych major and am always commenting from that platform. You could charge at least 50 cents a minute to start. Once you build a reputation and have people who are actually healing from your approach you could charge more. Especially if you get a licence lol. If you need your couch and room cleaned after messy sessions, I'm your gal too.

Theresa Lopez Imagine the test for the licence cert. 50 cents per hour could work well in a Spa holiday setting. Your a Psych major. Lol In the U.K. my immediate connotations are perhaps quite different to Your own. I do recall comments from Theresa Lopez as it so happens. Let me just check to see how many Theresa Lopez there are on UA-cam. Lol. I actually did. There are more Theresa Lopez than John Smith by the looks of it. That's a tough gig in standing out. But i believe You can do it. : )

No consensus? There are feminist scholars who have been documenting ancient Goddess culture around the globe for decades. "Women in Art" TV series uploaded onto you tube has some excellent discussions as well as Max Dashu's channel. I feel like this woman desperately needs to read and understand the profound works of Mary Daly.

No consensus means there isn't 100% agreement. I'm sure she has read feminist scholars' writings on this subject. Feminist scholars aren't the only ones in existence.
