As a blues man for about 50 yrs, I have seen some talent come and go. Dianne Allman, Clapton, BBKing, Buddy Guy, all the big names. I still remember the night I cried when SRV died. Part of me died, too. I couldn't see a future. It was over. Clapton wasn't too g much blues, BB was playing from a chair the past 2 times I saw him, and age was catching the masters. Then these three kids showed up, KWS, Joe Bonamassa, and Johnny Lang. They were upstarts, showing promise. I figured them to fade after the "wunderkind" wore off... and they did. Still looking, I caught Walter Trout in St Petersburg, and my heart mended after 20 years of despair. I had hope again. The blues would survive. I saw Joe in Tallahassee in 2012, and saw the future was getting brighter. He wasn't as raw as Trout but he dressed better. This is a "coming of age" for these guys. The kids have become the masters. They own this now. KWS sure scratched the love out of that ax. I was waiting for him to mature into his own. He did.
Me too, shame he doesn't sing very much though, then he would be the whole package. Half a package will do though with playing like that, hats off to him, but he looks better with a hat on.
Whomever gave this a thumbs-down only watched because they incorrectly assumed this was only Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) and this brilliance is beyond them.
I knew Kenny when he was like 19. One minute you were having a normal conversation with him, the next he was on stage, almost in a trance, just tearing it up. He was phenomenal then and still is today. The way he channels Hendrix is amazing. Noah and the band still sound great too.
@@gerrett108 Wow, never knew that! Now for the unfortunate part - I now better understand why he has significant hearing loss (my diagnosis, not based on anything I’ve read or heard from him)....
This fella is legit. Always did enjoy his playing but never in a million years would i have expected him to make such strides in finding a balance between his influences and himself. Saw him live a few years back for the first time in nearly two decades and was thoroughly blown away at how beautifully his playing has matured. saw him again shortly after on the experience Hendrix tour back-to-back nights in Milwaukee...... Sharing the stage with Eric Johnson, Zach Wilde, Doyle Bramhall , Jonny Lang, Buddy Guy..... All of which would make for a humbling lesson in humility for 99% of us guitar players......... KWS was the easily the standout player in my opinion. I was blown away, which doesn't happen too often.
I think Jimi would be proud of this young man actually doing justice to his song and carrying on the legacy of Jimi. I've been listing to KWS for over 20 years, since he was a young kid at 18! He has developed over the years into truly a great musician. Again, I think Jimi would approve of this young man and his interpretation of his music. May he have many more years to develop his skill so that we fans of his music will be able to hear for long after I've left this earth.
I got to see KWS perform just last Sunday & he played Voodoo Child. AMAZING!! & VERY EMOTIONAL!! I'm 1 of the LUCKY ONES to see HENDRIX perform the SAME SONG!! I still have my ARE YOU EXPERIENCED tee shirt!! I'm 67. THANKS KWS!!
I agree. He’s doing respect to it. Hard work. Lots of Hendrix and SRV impersonators out there. Or should I say tribute players. I want to cry when I imagine what Jimi would be doing now. Maybe something with Apple? Maybe changed styles 2x by now? Maybe became an astronaut and worked with Richard Branson ? “ Who Knows “ ? But not playing Voodoo Child for 40-50 years
Awe stricken by this performance. Just beyond beautiful for this old blues lady. Think you Missmoke007 for recording the history of one of the best renditions of this song ever.
This starts out with "Voodoo Chile", the more straight-ahead, slow blues. And then rips into "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" about halfway through the video. And Kenny Wayne just kills it. Strat Slayer. Stratomaster. Gets that Jimi Hendrix by way of Stevie Ray Vaughan tone that Strats are known for. Great cover. Noah Hunt's vocals are on point.
Always liked KWS, listened on radio all the time. But he is way better than the blue on black days! You can hear jimi, srv, muddy waters and a lil bit of albert king. THANK GOD he is keeping them all alive in his playing. Damn that boys good.
This has become my favorite video on UA-cam. Every time I watch it I get inspired. Thank you Linda, for the amazing job capturing this, and for sharing it with us.
Damn! Kenny sure can jam the hell out of that guitar. I thought it was going to burst into flames. The vocals are smooth and the whole band kicks major ass.
Good to see Chris Layton (Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble) still playing drums, & playing with KWS. I saw Mr Layton play a few years ago on the "Experience Jimi Hendrix Tour".
love watching you wail outt Kemny! yer an amimal lol Get in your own world when yer playing like that intense. No drug can match it. KENNY ID LOVE TO JAM WITH YOU GUYS! I KNOW FROM JAMMING WITH COREY AND LISTENNING WE WOULD HAVE FUN! PLEASE LOOK ME UP IF U COME TO TORONTO!

Thera was couple of chicks to the right of us saying they were going to grab the set list taped to the stage, I had that in my mind already. So Kenny finished up on Voodoo child he dropped his pick,it bounced off of his boot right in front of me,I grabbed it stuck it in my pocket. That was the last song so I was watching those chicks thinking about grabbing the set list. I said nope! I jumped on stage, peeled the set list up and it's now framed with the pick.
Just saw this. As a Jimi and a Voodoo Child fan this is remarkable. This is still a standard for great guitar players. KWS is certainly that. I have been appreciating this for decades now. All I can say is wow. I think Jimi would have liked it.
On FIRE for sure! Another great version. I got chills! He really is like Jimi, I don't think he can play the same version twice even if he wanted to. Truly a great Guitarist!
KWS is really great! I think it was early 90s my daughter was in high school and she brought home a CD by KWS and she said, Mom you gotta listen to this! I was blown away, because he was still in his teens! He has only gotten better through the years! Every great blues player, including SRV, has done Jimi Hendrix, and they've done justice. But all the videos I've seen of Jimi doing Voodoo Child, I still can't see how he does it! Every time I listen to this one I get chill bumps, KWS is, in my opinion, one of the greatest guitar artists alive. He just wales that thing and it does magic.
THE best version I’ve ever heard. KWS can play a broomstick if it had a string on it. He just absolutely killed it. His band was very tight on the stops/starts they did. 7 stars on a 5 star system.
This performance and recording are so deliciously, incredibly good! He's still young and willing to improve. How much better can he get? OMG watch out!

It can't be emphasized enough how important that is to the musicians shredding their souls into the sounds we listen for. God bless whoever made this video. Joseph Bridges yes sir I agree 100%. This nonsense I keep hearing about rock music being all satanic is a bunch of annoying bs. Yes there’s the death metal idiots and sadly the current day pop/rap stars who are forced to bow to the evil one for stardom since he’s in control of the entertainment industry (practically flaunting himself now) BUT.. good old blues and rock and roll such as kws is far from satanic in my opinion. Although I listened to Black Sabbath and such for the heavy sound and didn’t pay too much attention to the lyrics honestly. We have to admit it’s always probably been worse than we were aware of. Jimmy page buying alaister Crowley’s house and living in it for example. Wtf I’ve always claimed led zep was the greatest of the great but that shit sorta sours it. @@freeryder4891 jus to let you know, the record label wanted the crucifix upside down on Sabbath's debut album and they told them to stick it where the sun don't shine. FYI. Just four brummies who created heavy rock which sounded so damn heavy coz the guitarist had to learn to play without the tips of two fingers due to an industrial accident.
This was THE BEST CRUISE YET !! Great surprise to see KWS is joining us on the KTBA CRUISE in August on the Mediterranean !!!! Thank you linda for capturing this awesome moment.
Now THIS is a cover I've never heard. Everybody who covers Jimi does VC Slight Return - hell we did it in my band. But this was fabulous. Excellent rhythm section. Everything.

Never give up an opportunity to see this band live. Kenny is one hell of a player, full of energy and feel.
Yes I have seen them live twice and getting tickets today for the Feb 12 shreveport show. Noah is a great vocalist but always mesmerized by KWS
One of the best modern blues performances I have witnessed.and Noah's vocals are totally amazing
When your heroes are guitar legends like SRV and Hendrix, and you work your ass off to become one yourself, hats off to KWS for this one holy sh*t
I've been burning up guitar for along time and I have to say Kenny kicks some serious ass.
best comment of the year ... happy 2023 mate from australia

A true masterpiece that it really doesn't matter who's playing it or how it is played just so long that someone is playing it
Mah boy from Shreveport! Outstanding!
It doesn't get more intense then this, Kenny deep in the Voodoo, perfect band,
very nice vocals from Noah Hunt.
Jimmy brought it to life. Kenny picked up his ax and Killed it... in the best way possible. Damn, that was GOOD!!!
