    Thank you for this video because no one would believe me when I told them about my two month experience trying to buy a CPO Tesla. I traded my car in with them gave them a check and took a Uber home with nothing but a temp tag and a free key chain for my trouble. No one had any answers as to when I would get my car or where exactly it was located. When the car finally arrived my delivery driver called me and said he was tired of driving my car around and I needed to get it off of his truck!!! Mind you I had no damn idea that the car had even arrived in my state, when the car rolled off the truck it was dirty and only had 39miles of charge on it and I was 35 miles away from a super charging station. This was in September and still today I have not heard from anyone about my concerns about the process. So welcome to the COP CLUB RICH! I am giving you the short story not even touching on my interactions with my sales advisors.

      This has more to do with the incompetence that the individuals employees you dealt with at Tesla, and not the entire Tesla customer service as a whole. This sound so much like my experience with Tesla. But, it didn't stop after getting the car. I was one of those people who paid for the car outright using a cashiers check. The westchester service center misplaced the check and never deposited it. This led to a long chain of additional screw ups on Tesla's part. First, they accused me of not paying for the car. I was smart and took pictures of the paperwork plus the check when I picked it up. Plus had the check stub. This caused the pay center to stumble and then back track. Ended with them telling me they would look into it and get back to me.
    Next I got a letter from my insurance agent telling me that the DMV had no record of my car and if I didn't provide some kind of documentation from the DMV with proof that the car was registered, they would cancel my insurance. I had nothing except the plates on my car and the temp registration which was getting close to expiring.
    I waited a week, the pay center never got back to me. So I called them up and got a new person to look into it with the added incentive that my temp registration was going to expire. I did get some new information that the sales rep at the service center was looking into it.
    Few days later go by. No word from Tesla. So I had my lawyer call the pay center. Shockingly things started to happen. First, They had my records at the service center mixed up with another person who picked up the same day. Second, when they found my paperwork, my check was still there. They then cashed it the next day.
    So next was the issue of the DMV as I was 3 days away from expiring and still had no paperwork. The pay center doesn't do registration. Enter the lawyer again. She managed to get someone at the Customer Service Center to get the NYS DMV to next day registration paperwork (shocking) plus promise some kind of compensation...Which never happened.
    BTW: I have decided to marry the lawyer.

      Daaaamn. If the seller screws up so much that you don't get title to the vehicle, then you legally don't own it.
      I would have told them to return the check and everything you paid, and to take their car back. If they can't sell a car competently, then they are not worth dealing with. It doesn't matter if you love Tesla - they haven't actually sold it. They just let you borrow it for a while. You even paid them by cashier's check - which means they technically have received the payment, they just haven't collected it yet.

    Contact your insurance company and request a refund. They shouldn’t be charging you until your effective date of delivery if and when that date ever occurs. Also for a vehicle to take this long is totally unacceptable given your good faith deposit of $2,500. Hold it take out you flute/recorder. Maybe they see how much you like to rebuild salvaged Teslas that they are building you a special one from salvaged vehicles they are still looking for parts. Better yet maybe they are studying you videos to see if they can do it as well as you. In any case good luck my friend. Hope these Tesla issues are resolved soon.

      1. You buy the car. Now it's yours.
      2. You search for the best insurance company for this car online.
      3. You get an online ID for your insurance to verify you have an insurance.

When we got there, they told us that the car wasn't ready (and wouldn't be until the next Monday). I lost my shit (after the horrible service we received up until that point) - and they actually figured out a way to procure the vehicle for delivery that day. Wtf is that garbage... when you take a car in trade don't finalize the deal until you have the title. Sounds like a great way to scam Tesla. According to superspeeders Rob he got burned on a deal because someone sold a car he technically owned. Since the owner bought in good faith they now legally owned it. So as long as you have the title you can sell it. Obviously illegal and Tesla can come after you but the new owner would legally own it. There is a ton of ways you can make this scam work.

    I bought a Model S about 5 months ago, and had nearly the exact same experience, nearly word for word with an article I wrote and submitted to a couple of the electric car blogs. I'll bet they kick themselves when they see how many views this generates. And no, don't hold your breath for them to 'make things right'. I had 2 different people swear to make it up to me, and not only did they NOT make it up to me, but they took my trade in, DIDN'T credit me for it on the final sale (cash, because I had external financing through Lightstream), so it didn't reduce my sales tax, and it took nearly 2 months before they finally paid me the couple of thousand dollars I owed.
    So in addition to paying insurance for a car I didn't actually own, I also made my first $950 payment before I received my car. Still love the car, but it's really clear at this point that they're using all of their resources to get as many new cars sold as possible before the new year, and all of us poor people who are buying pre-owned are way down the totem pole.

    Hey Rich, I've worked for Tesla for around a year and a half in the new cars sales department in Canada. I see this first hand with pre-owned vehicles..... If you notice at 2:56 in your vid, it says 70 point mechanical inspection. They don't provide a 360 point inspection as most other pre-owned vehicles have lol. In other words, if the car's exterior is damaged, they don't give a shit. Let's just say when 9% of staff got terminated; the whole re-marketing department was dissolved. This just shows what happened clearly contributes to your shitty car buying experience. And the truth of the matter...I know people that work in the delivery department and most of them are clueless and careless as to what's going on with customers vehicles. 95% of them do nothing all day except watch youtube videos and watch the TSLA stock fluctuate lol. I've contacted upper management but no one really cares about anything aside from the fact they can tell people they work for Tesla. Good luck with everything.

    Rich, if your "new" car was never actually titled over to you, and you had no legal possession of it, then you also had/have no "insurable interest" in it, so your insurance company can't legally issue coverage for it (yet) and legally, the state probably requires them to adjust the policy period to match the actual delivery date. Or, to prorate your payments.
    Similar issues, state and federal, may bind the finance company. Don't be a victim, call your state insurance and finance regulators, Tesla needs a good slap in the face about some business practices.

    Just file a CC dispute and move on. Insurance usually has to refund you going back 45 days if you tell them the car was never titled, give them a call, you shouldn't be paying insurance.
    Edit to add - don't be someone stuff just happens to. They can say it's non refundable as much as they like, that doesn't necessarily mean it is in every situation. You can fight them as much as they can fight you, except the deposit money is not much to them and a lot to you, so you should have more fight in you than they do. Suddenly non refundable doesn't mean quite as much if they are in breach, and if this isn't breach then the whole contract might be void as unconscionable. There are a dozen other possibilities. Don't be a victim, stick it to the man.

      @Gabriel G You can dispute anything. That is why lawyers exist. The law on deposits varies greatly between states, and in some states is complex. That they call it an "order payment" won't necessarily help them. Do you also think you can't sue a dump truck operator that has debris fly from its bed and chips your windshield just because they painted on the back of it "not responsible for broken windshields"? I haven't looked at one in a long time to know if it still the case, but for years Carnival cruise lines left unenforceable language on their tickets about your rights to get your money back. The courts had already ruled on it, it was totally unenforceable, but they left it on there because they know most people would assume it is. Don't believe everything a business tells you.

      I think it all comes back to how relatively new Tesla is to the game, plus the fact that about 95% of Tesla's/Elon's energy is focused on making them and other hurdles, so the actually buying experience hasn't received the kind of focus as you'd find at any established brand.
      Then add in that reselling used cars is even further down the list of priorities, you can at least understand, if not sympathize, with the fact that they aren't really that good at it yet. It's going to take a lot more time and experience and energy before their process is as smooth as that of the big boys, but then that's just the trade-off one has to expect at this stage of the game, imo.

    • @russell2449
      @russell2449 5 років тому +1

      @RavenPrecept "Teamed up with"??? Are you serious? Tesla doesn't use the standard dealership model precisely because they have to keep costs down - dealerships add up to 20% to the cost of a vehicle because every dealership has to borrow the money from the bank to pay for all the cars on the lot, plus interest for every day they sit unsold, plus commissions to the salesmen, plus the dealerships own markup, etc.
      PLUS Tesla's are not like ICE cars and so they do NOT want anyone but their people working on them, so that not in the realm of possibility. What's left is the sales of new vehicles, which Tesla is getting better at, but the used car market is fairly new, and the volume is fairly low, although growing, so it's just a matter of getting the kinks worked out, and as I said, I don't think it's getting the attention it needs considering Tesla had to devote ALL of their attention in the last couple of quarters just to keep the company alive and to meet production deadlines.
      I'm willing to bet that given another year or so that things will be much smoother, at least I hope so, because I've been thinking about going that route myself rather than paying the premium for a new Model 3, pero vamos a ver ;?)

      @@TeslaInventory Well car auctions are not dealerships - I can't see them partnering up with any chain of dealers largely because they're usually closely linked to the other big manufacturers. Plus again dealerships tend to have a certain sales model that is designed to squeeze every last dime they can out of their customers, and used car dealers are often the worst.
      I used to sell aftermarket parts to a lot of them on the main route from Pocatello ID, up to the Tri-Cities in WA, and out of the dozens of dealers I dealt with, only a couple were really decent guys who treated their customers right. Not to say there aren't good ones out there, just not the norm imo.

    Hey Rich: buying a new car is a total cluster as well. There's a ton of nice people on the phone, but no one has any authority or direction on how to deliver a car. Also, as part of the Q3 2018 rush, my vehicle came with a ton of defects -- which to date after 3 trips to the service center, arent resolved. The service center advisor has now also changed their tune -- he takes an approach of "Oh i own 2 tesla's myself -- whats your problem? You actually wanted a fully painted car? You want perfection? What is it exactly?" (yes, he actually said this)
    They take the car to these "authorized" body shops, only to have the car delivered back with clear signs of vehicle tailgating, and the bodywork is jammed back onto the car, breaking clips, warping polyurethane (yes... they actually did that) and with a ton of fitment issues. Add insult to injury, the service advisor is like, i dont remember who you are.
    It is now 93 days out, and my car has been at Tesla for over 30 days. Do you know of anyone who has gone through the lemon process? Want to help me lemon a Tesla? Let me know.
    Tesla has some total goons working at some of these centers.

    • @ge7236
      @ge7236 5 років тому +7

      fuzziebunnie going through the same exact thing. Got a brand new S 100D with a terrible amount of issues. Car has gone to service center 5 or 6 times now and has been pushed out twice for body work... Still has to go back to service to re-fix just about every issue they “fixed”. And due to poor work because their technicians clearly do not care, even more parts have been damaged from being pulled off and reinstalled improperly and need to be replaced. I have also been told several times the car does not qualify for a buy back.

    • @sparkzbarca
      @sparkzbarca 5 років тому +17

      @@ge7236 being told the car "does not qualify for buyback" by the dealer is meaningless. Which state do you live in? In general lemon law says 3-4 repair attempts for the same issue unresolved. Alternatly if they are resolving issues but it's a endless issues kind of lemon. 30+ days in the shop in a one year period is also a lemon.
      At that point if you wish to exercise your buyback rights you can contact a lemon law attorney. If it's a recurring issue problem and not a 30+ days problem you may be required to send them a certified letter with a final repair attempt offer where you give them one last chance to fix the problem. Known as the last chance warning. (this is often taken care of by your lawyer)
      if you've passed the 30 day mark and it's about the frequency of repairs basically and not the inability to do so, then you basically hit 30 days and get it bought back after a short lawsuit and settle.

    Good news Rich,
    Laws vary by state. Insurance commission will not allow carriers to pay for coverage for an item you do not possess. Meaning when you take delivery, send the dated email to your carrier, they should by law retroactively changed the start of coverage date to actual date of delivery, and refund (or extend your payments to new coverage dates)
    You did not have to buy a new separate insurance policy for your Model X yet. Most insurance companies allow retroactive coverage for a few days within reason. All car dealships, even Tesla expect it. You just have to show you are currently covered with vehicle A, and they will sell you vehicle B.
    The expectation is within the next business day you declare and add your vehicle B to your existing policy, coverage to start from the day of delivery. Most major carriers will accept this procedurally.

The good news is that any issue I have had with the car since has been fixed above and beyond. The car had a small water stain on the seat so they agreed to replace the seat. Hopefully in a few years they will get better and competition will force them to do so! Right now it Tesla feels like a successful kickstarter that is changing the world. Rich, I just bought a new Model S and took delivery on Nov 16th. It was a showroom model from another state and had 2600 miles on it, but they took $11,900 off so why not. They delivered to the nearest service center (2 hours away) and said I had 72 hours to report any blemishes from delivery and they would fix free of charge. Turns out, the delivery truck driver didn't know how to load the car and scratched all four rims, gouged the side walls, and scratched the entire underside of the front bumper. I sent pics the next morning, then they went radio silent.
    Numerous calls to them, emailed everyone I had dealt with, no response. It appears that once they got your money, you are dead to them. I resorted to daily hate-mail to their executive branch and finally got a response on Dec 22nd. Still not fixed and I have to report to the gas station daily to fill my tire up with air. The car is amazing though. Their management admitted to me that they are overwhelmed with fulfilling deliveries and are understaffed. If only their quality control people (and I) would've inspected the car before delivery, they could save all this time and work on your Model X.

    This is absolutely disgusting. Tesla sold a car they don't have a title for, and won't be honest about their massive screw up throughout the purchase process? Make noise about this, Tesla should be held accountable. I echo an earlier response, absolutely abysmal. I'm curious how often this happens to those without a voice or audience. Class action?

    • @GlanderBrondurg
      @GlanderBrondurg 5 років тому +7

      Class action lawsuit isn't really something you ought to consider unless there seems to be a flagrant disregard to customer's experiences in multiple cases. This looks more like general incompetence on the part of several staff members at Tesla and a failure to perform follow through. There should be some specific employee who has responsibility here with supervisors who can pick up the slack if they fail to meet customer's expectations.
      It might be wise to contact a local prosecutor or possibly even the state attorney general's office for violating several consumer protection laws since they may have violated several terms of automotive contract law and lemon laws. You can get an opinion from a private attorney, but most people can get help from public prosecutors for situations like this in terms of simply asking if a law has been violated or not. Rich might even be able to get a full refund since the good or service promised was never actually performed or given. I've been able to get a "non refundable deposit" returned simply by invoking such lemon laws in the past myself.

Then you have from Bob to Mary to Rick with Tesla financial as the lienholder. So while I am not shocked it took this long, the real problem comes into play with state taxes. The vehicle purchase is for MA. I am clueless why they are attempting to charge NY taxes. Sounds like a rookie dealership crew with Tesla corporate and the DMV having checked out for Christmas.
